Big coats are being put on in the press box. For the first time at this World Cup, it really does feel like winter down under.

With half an hour gone, it's Jamaica who will be feeling a lot cooler about this score so far.

Tottenham's Jamaica goalkeeper Rebecca Spencer is called into action after Amel Majri's fine delivery with a free-kick from deep and both Eugenie le Sommer and Wendie Renard went for it, with a diving Spencer then having to dive and grab hold of the ball.

Neither goalkeeper has been tested but it won't be long.

Jamaica's Khadija Shaw takes on and beats Sandie Toletti, getting into the penalty area, but France defend it well and stop the pass finding another Jamaica player.

France's Clara Mateo gets to the byeline and pulls the ball back into the penalty area but one of the Swaby sisters, this time Allyson, is well positioned to mop up the danger.

Atlanta Primus gets a booking for Jamaica, and just like Clara Mateo earlier on, can't have too many complaints as she slid in and caught Grace Geyoro.

France have got some big hitters in the side, especially in defence, but they are struggling a little with Jamaica's press and the sheer presence of Khadija Shaw.

It doesn't help them that the crowd are on the Jamaican's side and roar encouragingly when they sense an opportunity.

Jamaica's Atlanta Primus, who plays her football in the English Championship at London City Lionesses, tries her luck with a couple of efforts from the edge of the penalty area, but on both occasions the shot is quickly charged down and doesn't make its way through to Pauline Peyraud-Magnin in the France goal.

After a brief haitus, the rain has returned with a vengeance. It adds to a very stop-start game so far.

All of which is fine by Jamaica. French fans meanwhile try a chorus of 'Allez Les Bleues' to rouse their team.

Sulaimon: France are one of my favourites to win the World Cup. I am excited to watch Kadidiatou Diani, the Reggae Girlz are in for long night.

Yet to have a shot at goal from either side, yet it's still been a really enjoyable opening 17 minutes, with lots of good moments from both sides.

A huge cheer from the Sydney crowd as France forward Clara Mateo gets the first booking of the game.

No question who the locals and neutrals are supporting.

Khadija Shaw looks to break free and run at the France defence from just near the halfway line.

But the run comes to an abrupt halt as she is rugby tackled waist-high by Clara Mateo who can have absolutely no complaints about the resulting yellow card that comes her way.

An early problem for Jamaica's Jody Brown, turning over on her ankle when there wasn't much of a challenge from Maelle Lakrar right behind her.

One to monitor.

Khadija Shaw clatters into Grace Geyoro 35 yards from the Jamaica goal to give France a free-kick and a chance to send in a dangerous delivery.

Wendie Renard, at 6ft 2 in, is always a handful at set pieces and she gets on the end of it, but is crowded out by a number of Jamaica defenders and they manage to wipe out the danger.

The Wendie Renard-Khadija Shaw battle is going to be one of those great tussles to watch. One of the best defenders in the world, versus one of the best attackers.

Shaw tries to chase on to a ball forward, but French goalkeeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin gets there just in time.

A huge cheer in the stadium as Khadija Shaw gets to her feet, shortly after Wendie Renard following a clash of heads.

The last thing either set of fans want are their star players getting injured early on!

Wendie Renard, an eight-time Champions League winner with Lyon, gets her head on a dangerous Jamaica free-kick played into the box to concede a corner.

Renard and Khadija Shaw are then involved again, challenging for the ball, but an accidental head clash leaves both of them on the turf, needing treatment.
