    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper to BBC Sport: "I thought we were good in the first phase of the game. We didn't make enough of the positions we got in.

"The build-up, positioning and momentum was good but you need to be more of a threat in the Premier League. With new players coming in it was never going to be a complete performance. Second half we were good again. There were chances coming, you hope a goal.

"It's probably the first goal we scored like that since we've been in the Premier League. We will support Callum Hudson-Odoi and give him everything. A lot has happened in his life since I last worked with him.

"I'm excited to work with him again. I want him to think about the goal for 20 minutes and then think about how to get better. A few games down the line he probably will be more productive.

"We want to be winning games here. Maybe at times last year we don't get anything out of a game like this."

On VAR: "Morgan had a shot blocked by a hand. They had one disallowed. I don't know. I keep thinking about what happened to us at Old Trafford a few weeks ago. I haven't seen the handball, apparently it was a clear handball."

'It's just one' - Manchester City believes Man City can win the Champion's League again

Pep Guardiola says Manchester City "haven't done anything special" having won just one Champions League.

After winning the Premier League and FA Cup last season, City became just the second English team to complete the Treble when they defeated Inter Milan 1-0 in the Champions League final.

City begin their Champions League title defence when they take on Red Star Belgrade at home on Tuesday.

"It'll be easier. The hardest to win is the first one," Guardiola said.

"For our club to win the Champions League is incredible, but in perspective, how many won one Champions League? A lot.

"We haven't done anything special with just one, but we are incredibly proud."

Brendan Rodgers believes "anything is possible" as his side embark on another Champions League campaign but concedes the team are "not at peak Celtic" yet.

Celtic return to the Champions League group stages for the second successive season, opening away to top seeds Feyenoord in Rotterdam on Tuesday, looking to build on positive performances last term that ultimately resulted in two draws from six games.

"We've got a long way to go before I think we'll be where I'm happy, where I want us to be," said Rodgers.

Despite that, he insists his squad have shown already this season that their "spirit will never be broken", adding that they have to have that at this level where people "want to dismiss you in the tournament".

The former Liverpool and Leicester City manager reiterated that his side will look to be competitive in every game as they seek his target of being in Europe after Christmas.

"That's what our aim is," he explained. "Whatever competition that is in, as long as we're in Europe after Christmas, that is our aim."

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe says it will be a "proud moment" when he attends his first Champions League game and leads the Magpies against AC Milan at the San Siro.

The Italy trip marks a return to Europe's top competition for Newcastle after 20 years away.

"It is a game of football and I think that's just how we have to approach it," said Howe. "Yes, it's a special game and we have to be at our best."

Howe, who spent the majority of his career as a player and manager at Bournemouth, revealed he has never been at a Champions League game before - even as a spectator.

His debut comes at the home of the seven-time European champions.

"I've always been too busy working to take one in," Howe said. "But it's not something I've given any thought to. Yes, it will be a very proud moment for me. I think it will be a very proud moment for everyone connected with Newcastle to be back in the Champions League after a long period away."

Newcastle face a Milan side who lost their derby 5-1 to Inter Milan on Saturday.

Callum Hudson-Odoi scored a glorious equaliser on his Nottingham Forest debut to earn a Premier League draw against Burnley.

The Clarets looked to be controlling the game but deadline day signing Hudson-Odoi had other ideas, curling a stunning strike into the top corner on the hour mark.

Burnley had taken a first-half lead through Zeki Amdouni's well-taken shot into the bottom corner after fine work by the lively teenager Luca Koleosho.

Swiss striker Amdouni, who scored the winner here in the Carabao Cup just 20 days ago, had already given goalkeeper Matt Turner a warning sign with a stinging drive from range before netting a cool finish.

Vincent Kompany's visitors thought they had grabbed the winner 12 minutes from time when Lyle Foster stroked in from close range, but it was ruled out for a handball by Sander Berge in the build-up.

Burnley's night then ended on a sour note when top scorer Foster was sent off for violent conduct in injury time, after a needless off-the-ball elbow on Ryan Yates.

Following three straight defeats, the result allows Burnley to get off the mark this season, while Forest have made a decent start to the campaign with seven points from five games.

    FT: Nottingham Forest 1-1 Burnley

    Nottingham Forest

More from Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper, talking to Sky Sports: "A lot to look back on. I felt we started brightly, played some good football and got into really good positions and should've done more with the positions we got into and been more of a threat.

"We gave a goal away that we shouldn't have done, it's a mistake the way we let him get in down the side. It was about regrouping, tweaking some things tactically and the boys showed good bravery.

"Callum's goal is one of high quality. I did feel we were on top, looking to get back into the game, got the goal, then the game really opened up."

  10. 'I have to get used to it' - Kompany on VARpublished at 22:28 British Summer Time 18 September 2023

    FT: Nottingham Forest 1-1 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany to BBC Sport: "I would have liked to [win]. I thought it was a good, fairly intense game. We had to work for every chance. In the end maybe there was more in it.

"There are enough positives for us. The performance was good. We showed exciting signs. Step by step, hopefully we can win more of these games.

"If we keep progressing and getting better. Loads of these first-year Premier League players will get better soon.

"That's easy for him [Amdouni]. There's something in his game. We're trying to help him get to the Premier League level. When he becomes that complete Premier League player, these bits will make him very important."

On the disallowed goal: "I have to get used to it. In the Championship if it's in, it's in. I won't let it take anything away. It's not in my nature to be bitter towards the officials. Their intentions were right.

"It [a point] was key. You can see how valuable each point is. The teams are the bottom are scrapping for points. This is our journey right now - this team has so much growth in it."

    • Nottingham Forest are winless in their last eight games against Burnley in all competitions (drawn four, lost four), since a 2-0 win the Championship back in December 2012.
    • Forest have lost just two of their last 17 home Premier League games (won eight, drawn seven) and are unbeaten in five at the City Ground (won four, drawn one) since a 0-2 loss to Man Utd in April.
    • Burnley have never lost a Premier League away game when leading at half time (played 24, won 17, drawn seven), the best such unbeaten record in the competition’s history.
  12. 'So much more room to progress'published at 22:19 British Summer Time 18 September 2023

    FT: Nottingham Forest 1-1 Burnley

    Burnley

More from Burnley boss Vincent Kompany, talking to Sky Sports: "We still have so much more room to progress. At least we defended the box today and we didn't capitulate.

"It's the first year in the Premier League [for Luca Koleosho and Zeki Amdouni] and both have three, four or five years' growth. Luca runs into the box and wants to dribble. His end product will come although he has had an assist already.

"This journey for us is not easy but at least there's something at the end of it and we can grow. I chose to play a back four that played together last season and that helped.

"The rest is just working on the training ground. Mistakes get punished much more than in the Championship. For us it's a question of performance and confidence. We played against Nottingham Forest and are in the game so that means there are six or seven teams that we can compete with."

  13. 'I don't know where to put my arms'published at 22:14 British Summer Time 18 September 2023

    FT: Nottingham Forest 1-1 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley's Sander Berge on the disallowed goal: "It was 50-50 between me and McKenna. I ran through. I'm in my normal running pattern. I don't know where to put my arms in that case. The referee asked me if I used my hand but it wasn't on purpose. I'm a bit surprised.

"I just ran through and used my body in the duel. I stayed in balance and tried to keep the ball with me. When I was celebrating the goal I wasn't thinking about if I handled it, I was celebrating 2-1."

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper, on Burnley's disallowed second goal, speaking to Sky Sports says: "I haven't really seen it.

"If I'm honest I'm more disappointed at the moment of defending. You trust the process, they have given a handball and we move on."

  15. Kompany not drawn on disallowed goalpublished at 22:08 British Summer Time 18 September 2023

    FT: Nottingham Forest 1-1 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany, talking to Sky Sports, says: "It was dramatic. When you look at the gesture [Foster's elbow on Yates that got him sent off], it's a moment of inexperience and something you can't excuse, but at the same time he has played his heart out for the team.

"Handballs and offsides, I will pass [talking] on those decisions. I just want to focus on getting the team right."

Asked more about the handball decision that denied Burnley a second goal, he says: "Even the defender in the duel with Sander Berge doesn't say anything. You slow down the images, you highlight it. Do you want me to take a stance? I did everything I could to duck the question!

"I can't do anything about it. I don't really feel anger. I'm proud of the squad and a sign of a lot of progress."

Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White: "It's better than nothing. We wanted three points. Fair play to Burnley, they're a good side.

"It showed great character to come back and get the point.

"This is the first time this team has played together so it's promising. The only way is up.

"I said to him [Callum Hudson-Odoi] at half-time go on the inside and shoot. Stop being nicey-nice, be selfish. It's an unbelievable finish."

    Frantic, thrilling and controversial.

It ends with a point apiece. Burnley thought they had won it, but Sander Berge is judged to have handled it before Lyle Foster put it in.

Foster was then sent off a few minutes later, but Forest couldn't make the extra man advantage count.

Earlier on, two lovely goals. Zeki Amdouni scored with a low 20-yard strike after a great run from Luca Koleosho before Callum Hudson-Odoi, on his Premier League debut for Forest, curled in a dream equaliser from 20 yards out.
