Burnley have already beaten Nottingham Forest once this season in the Carabao Cup

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany guided the Clarets to the Championship title last season and is determined to recover from a tough start to the season.

He said: "The challenge is a big one to show we belong in this league. But I think, in the end, there is a bigger plan to show we can also thrive in the Premier League.

"This is the type of game you want to get a result in, there's no doubt about it - and it will feel the same for them as it does for us."

Burnley won 1-0 at Nottingham Forest in the second round of the Carabao Cup last month through Zeki Amdouni's last-minute winner.

Kompany was asked whether that win in the League Cup helps tonight and said: "Yeah it did until they brought seven players in on deadline day.

"They did a few things different against us in the League Cup that they've not done too much in the Premier League, so I think this game is done and it is a new game now."

On the challenge of fitting all of Forest's new signings into the squad, boss Steve Cooper said: "Players are coming in different circumstances. Some have played regular, some haven't played at all. We're really looking forward to working with all the guys, it's a competitive group now."

Cooper spoke highly on club-record signing Ibrahim Sangare: "He has undoubted quality and is the profile of midfielder we wanted to bring here. It's been a long process to get him here and we're delighted that he's chosen us, because he could have chose a lot of others."

On deadline-day signing Callum Hudson-Odoi: "If we can get him in a good place, then he's a really exciting player. He's still young enough to show it again. We're really looking forward to getting our hands dirty with him."

But there was also a big departure, with key winger Brennan Johnson moving to Tottenham and Cooper said: "Naturally you're sad to see him go, he's been integral in these two years. I've been here but you wish him well. The club should be proud of how they helped him move on. I believe he will get to the very top."

  3. Forest's new signings get a chance to impresspublished at 18:52 British Summer Time 18 September 2023

Nottingham Forest v Burnley (19:45 BST)

After signing 30 players across the two transfer windows last season, Nottingham Forest were again really busy this summer, by signing seven players on transfer dealing day alone.

They signed PSV midfielder Ibrahim Sangare for a fee believed to be around £30m, and striker Divock Origi on loan from AC Milan.

Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi also joined for a fee of under £5m, while midfielder Nicolas Dominguez signed from Bologna and goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos has arrived from Benfica.

Defender Andrew Omobamidele joined from Norwich for £11m, while Arsenal full-back Nuno Tavares signed on loan.

Ivory Coast international Sangare has penned a five-year deal and becomes the club's most-expensive signing, topping the initial £25m paid for Morgan Gibbs-White from Wolves in 2022, though that could eventually rise.

Forest have an option to make the loan of 28-year-old former Liverpool striker and Belgium international Origi permanent.

Nottingham Forest make four changes to the side that shocked Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last time out.

Serge Aurier, Willy Boly, Ryan Yates and Danilo miss out. Divock Origi is on the bench.

Forest XI: Turner, Montiel, Worrall, McKenna, Aina, Hudson-Odoi, Mangala, Sangare, Elanga, Gibbs-White, Awoniyi.

Subs: Vlachodimos, Tavares, Kouyate, Wood, Santos, Dominguez, Niakhate, Yates, Origi.

    Nottingham Forest v Burnley

Burnley make two changes from their 5-2 home defeat by Tottenham before the international break.

Birthday boy Charlie Taylor is back in the side and starts at left-back, with Josh Brownhill coming in to midfield and captaining the side.

Dara O'Shea and Sander Berge drop out while deadline day signing Mike Tresor is on the bench.

Burnley XI: Trafford, Roberts, Beyer, Al Dakhil, Taylor, Gudmundsson, Cullen, Brownhill, Koleosho, Amdouni, Foster.

  6. How it standspublished at 18:44 British Summer Time 18 September 2023

Nottingham Forest v Burnley (19:45 BST)

Nottingham Forest, with two wins and two losses in the league so far, will go to seventh in the table with a two-goal victory, while Burnley are currently 19th without a point so far.

A win today would take them above Everton and Sheffield United and out of the bottom three and if the goals flow then they could also jump above Wolves and Bournemouth as well.

Any defeat for Vincent Kompany's side would leave them bottom of the Premier League.
