    Wolves

Wolves boss Gary O'Neil to BBC Sport: "I was incredibly disappointed with the start. To lose so many duels is not acceptable. The lads are aware of that. That's the first time I've seen that.

"They delivered in the second half. We should have won the game.

"I can't get my head around the penalty. I have a lot of experience, I've suffered constant negative ones - I was told it wasn't a penalty last season in Bournemouth's game with Brentford last season on Jensen becuase it hit his leg and then his hand. I was convinced it wasn't going to be a penalty, it's never a penalty. If that's a penalty we're in a really bad place.

"The fact it hits his leg and bounces onto his arm is completely different.

On Jeanricner Bellegarde's red card: "He understands. He's apologised to the group. We can't suffer lack of professionalism."

Everton boss Sean Dyche: "We've just been reminding the players, we stepped off it against Arsenal. A lot of the performances have been strong attacking wise. It's tough coming here. Thomas [Frank] has done a brilliant job moulding a team that is very hard to beat.

"We want to take our performance on the road as well as at Goodison but we have got to turn them into wins. I'm well aware of that. The players have had a good week chatting about some thing we think we should do better."

Man City are a team we often give credit to for being such an amazing footballing team and working so hard off the ball.

But they also know how to see out games, how to dig deep when they have to, and the spine of the team has got that character.

Ederson, Dias who is an animal of a defender, Rodri in the midfield is the same and then up top you've got Haaland. All aggressive players, the spine of the team is solid so it is no surprise that they knew exactly how to dig the game out.

You saw towards the end they were going to the corner, trying to win throw in and decisions, they weren't thinking 'oh we're too good let's pass it around,' they know what they are doing to see a result out.

Times are hard at Everton. Confidence is low, especially as they have been in this position for such a long time. The pressure is on.

But the manager knows the ropes - he knows how to get results in the Premier League. He's proved it over many years.

They have to show resilience, like they did at Sheffield United, and they missed a couple of sitters against Fulham and lost the game. They have been in and around games but certainly they will have to do better.

Tactically, I do not think it will be much different at Brentford. Could they be a bit more progressive? They may be a little braver in possession but I do not think they will be a million miles from how they have been setting up.

That's Sean Dyche. With the squad he has, he will feel he has to be quite rigid to get the points they need.

As for Everton fans, they are going to need a couple of results soon as they are getting frustrated. But Dyche came to the club in the first place to get them over the line - and he did.

  7. 'Proud of the team'published at 17:23 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

FT: Man City 2-0 Nottingham Forest

    Manchester City

Goalscorer Phil Foden: "Delighted with the performance. I think the first half was brilliant apart from the last 10, I think they found us out a little.

"The second half was not what we expected because Rodri got a red card quite early.

"It wasn't ideal but we showed a different side to us today to dig in and yeah I'm proud of the team."

  8. 'We were everything we wanted to be'published at 17:23 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

    FT: Luton 1-1 Wolves

    Luton Town

Luton boss Rob Edwards to Sky Sports: "I'm incredibly proud. We dominated the whole game. We were the better team with 11 v 11. We were excellent, everything we wanted to be. The red card probably added pressure to us.

"We should have got three points but it is progression. People can stop talking about us being the only team who don't have anything.

"The first 25 minutes we were electric.

"Full credit to the lads, we had to try to break them down. It was tough. We need to be better in the final third. That's not just the forward players, it's everyone.

"The red card was a red card, he's kicked out. The penalty, it deflects off him and his hands are up. We've probably had bigger penalty appeals in the last couple of weeks. I have a bit of sympathy."

Everton continue their search for a first Premier League win of the season as they head to West London to take on Brentford.

Sean Dyche’s side, however, will need to improve their display considerably after the manager was critical of the performance against Arsenal at Goodison Park last weekend.

Injuries are clearing up for the Blues with key forwards Dwight McNeil and Dominic Calvert-Lewin returning to action in recent weeks.

The Blues are yet to win on either of their two visits to Brentford since the Bees’ made their Premier League bow in 2021 but came close last season, only to be denied by a late Vitaly Janelt goal.

With further concerns emerging this week about the potential 777 Partners takeover, a first three points of the campaign would do wonders to lift the mood on and off the pitch for the blue half of Merseyside.

Luton captain Tom Lockyer on the clash that saw Jeanricner Bellegarde sent off: "We've had a little bit of a tackle and our legs get caught up together. We were tangled together and he's decided to kick me. I haven't made him kick me. That's on him and not me."

Luton striker Carlton Morris: "It's a bittersweet one. It's taken us time to acclimatise to the Premier League. I think that was our best performance. We deserved more from the game.

"Sometimes things don't just fall for us. That's the way the cookie is crumbling at the minute.

"It's brilliant. The fans keep us going.

"We're winners in that dressing room, we want to win the games and give these fans more to cheer about. We'll knuckle down."

Brentford boss Thomas Frank on losing Rico Henry to injury: We have good players to step in when needed and I am very confident we will go out there and perform.

"It is such a big injury [to Rico Henry] and he has been such a key player for us. But other players need to step in and I know they are ready.

"We definitely need to come flying out and we want to put Everton on the back foot from the start."

    FT: Luton 1-1 Wolves

    Wolves

Wolves defender Craig Dawson: "It's a tough place to come and they put you under a lot of presssure. They're very good at what they do. Their ground is tight.

"The lads stuck in to the end, credit to the boys."

On the penalty: "Yeah. It's a tough call. The referee makes a quick decision and VAR seemed to be even quicker. Hopefully in the future we get a decision our way.

"They obviously know the rules better than me. It touches about three body parts before his arm."

For Everton it certainly feels like the pressure is on them.

Not only today, but also because of the matches that are coming up for them, Luton at home, then at home to Bournemouth.

They've scored only two goals in the Premier League so far this season, lost every game at Goodison Park 1-0 so far this season, just the one point on the board.

It really does look as though that early pressure is on them.

This is a big game for Everton, and a really difficult one too.

Sean Dyche's side did not lay a glove on Arsenal last weekend and they surely have to offer more of a threat here - but they will have to be very careful when they go forward against a Brentford side who are so good on the break.

The Bees have only lost once this season, against Newcastle last time out. They were unlucky there, because the penalty decision that decided that game was harsh, but I think this is where they bounce back.

It must be miserable being an Everton fan at the moment because even when they have created opportunities, like they did against Fulham and Wolves earlier this season, they haven't taken them.

I want to say they will score this time, but I can't see it. Instead, I think there is more misery in store.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-0 to Brentford.

Luton will feel this was a missed opportunity for maximum points. There’s no doubting the fight in this team though. Didn’t get the goal their fast start deserved.

Credit to Wolves in the second half. They had plenty of defensive work to do with depleted numbers. And then had Pedro Neto’s piece of brilliance at the other end to get them a point.
