This is exactly where Sean Dyche will want Brentford to be, without Ivan Toney. That could have easily been 2-0. It was a great strike but just wide. If McNeil was able to bury that, it would have been interesting to see if Brentford would get anything from this game.

Looking along the press box I saw someone yawning and that said it all. Marco Silva rightly felt his side deserved to win it, but was also critical of the quality of their finishing. Meanwhile, Roy Hodgson was disappointed with Palace’s forward play but added that he’s not got much depth in that department to call on from the bench.

What's happened to Brentford?

A mistake by Ethan Pinnock whose attempted clearance falls straight to Vitalii Mykolenko who shoots straight at Mark Flekken.

The Toffees should by three up!

Poor by Brentford as they continue to give the ball away cheaply. They've had just one attempt so far - and that was off target.

It's all very promising for Everton but can they find a second?

Beto is all over the place and he wins his side a free-kick in a promising position. It's clipped in by James Garner for Amadou Onana who heads wide.

This is only the second time Everton have been in front this season. To be fair, they're bossing it as Brentford struggle to get going.

In fact Everton should be 2-0 up. Dwight McNeil is away after Beto's lovely header but his finish falls agonisingly wide.

A huge let off for the Bees.

Luton boss Rob Edwards to BBC Sport: "I'm really proud of everyone connected to the club. We showed what we're about. The performance was brilliant.

"We were the better team throughout, we completely dominated. Wolves have quality players who can hurt you.

"We showed character to come back into the game.

"We were on the front foot, we were aggressive. We were fast, we completely dominated. We just couldn't find that little bit of quality. But it's coming. We were better again today. I'm not saying we should have got something from the game, I'm saying we should have won.

"It shows at this level how hard you have to work, almost perfect to get something from the game.

"Everyone can stop talking about Luton being the only team not to have anything. We've got that off our backs."

Brentford have serious work to do if they are to notch their first home win of the season. They haven't got going in these early stages and Jordan Pickford is yet to make a save.

Everton have their third goad of the season - just what Sean Dyche and all the Everton fans wanted. Doucoure takes that superbly and fires it in. Absolutely no chance of saving that.

And with that tidy finish Abdoulaye Doucoure sweeps to the top of Everton's scoring charts. He has two of his side's three Premier League goals this season. He netted the opening goal in a 2-2 away draw at Sheffield United on 2 September.

Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola: "An exceptional game in the first half. Exceptional game in the second for our resilience and our work because we played, I would say, 51/52 minutes ten against eleven so it was not easy but we were fantastic. I thought the way we played in the first half was amazing so against a difficult side for the physicality the pace they have up front so yeah, recover for the next one."
