England manager Gareth Southgate said: "The privilege of meeting him on several occasions allowed me to understand his personal pride and emotion in having represented England, and simply confirmed in my mind his standing as one of the gentlemen of the game.
"The world of football will unite in sadness at losing an undisputed legend."
"When you read about everything he has done in the game, how many trophies he has won, appearances he has made and goals he has scored, he could have been excused for having a little bit of arrogance about him," said former Newcastle and England striker Alan Shearer.
"But there was absolutely none of that. If you hadn't watched a game of football and didn't see him play, you would just see him as a normal guy. I don't think you will ever hear anyone say a bad word against him.
"He was not only a great goalscorer but a scorer of great goals. If anyone is wanting to look at how to strike at a football, look at Sir Bobby Charlton."
"For me, [he is] England's greatest ever player," former England striker Gary Lineker told BBC Radio 5 Live.
"You can only judge players that you have seen in your lifetime and I was lucky enough to see him play when I was a young boy. He was one of my heroes, one of many people's heroes.
"I was always nervous and in awe of him, but he was so gentle as a man he always put you at ease. He was always so kind.
"He was unique. Wherever you go in the world, even if they didn't speak the language, they knew two words - Bobby Charlton."
Time for us to wrap up our coverage of today's Premier League action.
It has been a day when we lost a legend in Sir Bobby Charlton, and I'll leave you with the best tributes from the world of football.

Sheffield United
Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "The performance was good. Individually and collectively there were some real good moments in there.
The situation we find ourselves in with injuries is freakish really. While we were considering a shape change we had one forced on us today but the players responded really, really well this week.
"We are under no illusion how tough this league is but I think you can see what our strength has to be. We can't compete with the bench that United have got and financially we will not compete with lots of these clubs but where we can compete is if we get things right tactically and you can see the spirit and work ethic.
"There have been too many performances like that for us to not turn that tide but we have to do it."

Here's how it looks at the bottom of the table as Sheffield United remain rooted to the foot of the table.
An encouraging performance, but they need to start picking up points.

Sheffield United
Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom speaking to Sky Sports: "I've said to the players that we have to build on that. We've had many performances like that. Today we had to change our shape with the injuries. Losing your captain and vice captain and other players in the last 10 days have not been ideal but it's an opportunity for other players.
"We adapted really well. Playing against top-class players we need to do a lot more work on it. We looked dangerous and defended very well.
"I know United had a lot of the ball and hit the bar but it was from outside the box and the winner is from 25-yards into the top corner as well. It's frustrating but it's a tough league."
Match of the Day is on right now if you want to catch up with today's action.

Here's how it looks at the top of the table after tonight's result as Manchester United move into eighth.

Manchester United
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, speaking to Sky Sports: "We are happy with the win of course. Find a way to win and that was the approach to this game.
"The first half was not the best from our side but from the second half we controlled the game and won with a great goal.
"Sheffield United had a lot of energy and played with a system we didn't expect. We adjusted.
"We knew before this is a tough game, you have to play your best and we needed a great goal to win it.
"You have to fight in the Premier League for every point, you have to play your best in every game because you don't get anything for nothing."
On Sir Bobby Charlton tribute from fans: "It was fantastic. We have to pay contribution, pay our big goodbye, remembering Bobby Charlton because what he did was magnificent. He was outstanding on the pitch and off it. We wanted to remember Sir Bobby and I think we did it in a decent way."

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, speaking to MOTD about Sir Bobby Charlton: "Very sad, our thoughts are with his family, especially his wife, his children and grandchildren.
"What he achieved in football was immense. Also his personality off the pitch. The football world lost a big man.
"We had to show our respect for him and I think we did that today. We wanted to celebrate but also to remember him."
On the win: "Every game is tough in the Premier League. Always after international breaks when players play different styles and systems with their nations and then when you get back you have to get back to your routine. You saw in the first half it was not our best game, it was far from fluid. We got a goal but we have to be more composed and more mature to stay in the game at 1-0 up and now give up the goal so quickly.
"At half time I said find a way to win and I think we were much better in the second half.
"Scott McTominay is a very good fighter. He arrived there at the right moment and it was a good goal."

Both of Diogo Dalot’s Premier League goals have come away against newly promoted sides. He also scored against Nottingham Forest in April last season.
His effort this evening was Manchester United’s first away winner from outside the box in the competition since Paul Pogba against Fulham in January 2021.
And when you don't score many goals like that the celebrations are just a tad intense.

Sheffield United's Oli McBurnie: "That is probably the story of our season. We have been in a lot of games. It is tough to take but I thought the boys showed a lot of quality today. It's unfortunate I think the boys have defended really well for a lot of the game and the right-back [Diogo Dalot] sticks one in the bin from 25-yards. There are definitely things to build on."
On his injury: "We will see how it is on Monday, I will have a scan and see what the diagnosis is."

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, speaking to Sky Sports: "First and foremost it is a really sad day. We obviously found out this afternoon and preparing for a game it hit us hard. Sir Bobby came into the dressing room a lot and he lit the place up. He is an absolute legend of the club. We are delighted to win the game but this is more than football and our thoughts are with his family.
"He'd always come in if we won or lost but his presence was really felt in the dressing room. You'd always see him around the club. We will miss him, the world will miss him."
On the game: "They caught us by surprise with the formation they were playing but I felt we adapted. We hit the woodwork, I know we can play better than we did tonight, but it is an important win."

Manchester United matchwinner Diogo Dalot, speaking to Sky Sports about Sir Bobby Charlton: "When we came to the game we wanted to contribute a little more. I felt with the win we gave a little bit of joy on a sad day."
"This is the contribution we could have today and give to the family. We are one family at United."

And indeed they have.
It is back-to-back Premier League wins for Manchester United, with Diogo Dalot's excellent strike securing the three points.
