Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, speaking to MUTV about Sir Bobby Charlton: "Our thoughts are of course with his family. The whole football world is losing a legend, a big personality, a giant. He was that on the pitch and definitely also off the pitch.

"He set the standard as a Manchester United player. What he achieved is an example for us and for all of us it should be an inspiration for us, not just to get a win but also with his standards."

Scott McTominay looked visibly emotional as he spoke to Sky Sports pre-match.

“It’s devastating to be honest with you,” the midfielder said.

“He was an icon at the football club and all over the world. Everyone knew him from being a legend of the game and, more importantly, such an incredible guy as well.

“He’s done so much for the club over the years and everyone is going into this game tonight thinking of him.

“He paved the way for people like myself, Marcus [Rashford] and Jesse [Lingard] who came through the Academy. So for us especially, feeling what he’s done at this football club, it’s difficult. Our thoughts are with his family and everyone at this time.

“It’s difficult but the game is going ahead and we have to do it for Sir Bobby. He was an icon and a legend all around the world in football terms. My mum is obviously devastated and everyone who has grown up watching him over the years has just got to thank him really for everything he’s done for the game.”

One more game left in the Premier League today as Sheffield United host Manchester United.

The Blades need the points while it is bound to be an emotional game for the visitors, coming on the day of the sad news of Sir Bobby Charlton's death.

  4. 'We showed our never-say-die attitude'published at 19:42 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

    FT: Chelsea 2-2 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice, speaking to Sky Sports after his goal helped the visitors fight back from 2-0 down: "First half from us the worst we've played this season in terms of sloppiness. But massive credit to Chelsea, the manager said they had been unlucky this season and they made it difficult for us.

"To show heart and character, it is not easy when 2-0 down. It's about having that fight and mindset, pushing the team on and making sure everyone has belief. It was a good comeback.

"Chelsea made it compact, but us on the ball was not good enough - my first pass I gave it away. It gave Chelsea encouragement but in the second half we showed what we're about - that hunger and never-say-die attitude. We showed great heart and character."

On making the most of Robert Sanchez's mistake to curl in for 2-1: "Instead of driving the ball with my laces I had to curl it. It was a quick instinct about whether to pass the ball to someone or take it on.

"I was buzzing but we were still 2-1 down and I wanted us to keep going and get another. I'm glad we did that."

I like Pat Nevin, but to suggest Arsenal deserved a draw is ludicrous, Sanchez handed them a ticket back into the game and all the momentum - they were lucky

    Oliver, Ilkley

Absolutely gutted, we threw that away Arsenal very lucky yet again. But massive improvement from Chelsea and proud of the team and the performance.

    Phil

Craig: Before the game this result would have been bad. After, feels like a win. Arsenal nowhere near their best. Except Rice who always shows up. What a signing!

Tambuwal: Coming back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Stamford Bridge, that was a true mark of champions. Well deserved point for Arsenal.

Pochettino will be so frustrated. Chelsea had the game under control until Sanchez's poor clearance.

Arsenal poor for the most part but stuck in there and credit to them for grabbing the lifeline.

So that point puts Arsenal level with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League and lifts Chelsea up to ninth position.

Imagine the demeanour of Mauricio Pochettino will be much glummer than his buddy Mikel Arteta, despite the Blues showing their improvement has increased to a level where they can match one of the expected title contenders.

I think a draw is the appropriate result for that game.

Arsenal were a long way from their best, but they are still a very strong team. Declan Rice was the best player by a country mile.

Arsenal have got what they deserved with that draw.

    All over!

Chelsea don't know how they haven't ended Arsenal's unbeaten run this season in the Premier League.

Arsenal have fought back from 2-0 down to earn a point at Stamford Bridge.

Cracking strikes and goalkeeping errors contributed to an entertaining contest between these London rivals.

The ball is aimed at Kai Havertz but Marc Cucurella goes down under the challenge. Chelsea free-kick.

That could be the break which Chelsea need to get them over the line.

This is why we need a ruthless striker. Should have been 4-0 ages ago.

    Ryan

Arsenal are genuinely the luckiest team in the league this season. Performances no better than mid table in any game so far and fluking results.

    Callum

Femi: Chelsea don’t have a decent goalkeeper and Jackson is not good enough for this level

Paul: I know Raya was caught out for the mudryk goal but if Chelsea also had a competent goalie who doesn’t do stupid things we wouldn’t have got back into this game. If we go 2-0 down at city or Liverpool we wouldn’t be coming back.

I wouldn't bet on this game finishing at 2-2.

A hefty amount of stoppage time expected... seven minutes.

Arsenal have already scored a league-high three goals from 76 minutes onwards this season.

    Leandro Trossard (84 mins)

My word! Seconds after those changes, Arsenal are level. Unbelievable.

Arsenal fans in the away end have their shirts off in celebration.

Blues right-back Malo Gusto switches off for the first time really - and it's crucial.

That allows Leandro Trossard to sneak up on the outside and sidefoot in Bukayo Saka's deep cross to the left.
