Bruno needs to realise he doesn't need to play the Hollywood ball every time. Keep it simple pick the right pass and we won't be so open every week.

    Dean

I don’t know whether to consider the Man United lineup a lack of respect to Sheffield United or a tactical nous on the part of Ten Hag but so far, the former seems to be the case cuz the team has no spine whatsoever

Good stuff from Andre Onana as he confidently catches a very inviting in-swinging cross from Gustavo Hamer.

Manchester United's midfield is looking a little fragmented, with Sofyan Amrabat sitting deeper than Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay when Sheffield United have the ball.

It means the Blades can by pass Erik ten Hag's side if they get their one-touch passing right, which, largely they have.

It has left Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire scrambling a bit to keep the hosts out.

Right idea from Bruno Fernandes as he spots Rasmus Hojlund making a move through the middle but a Sheffield United defender cuts out the pass.

Ten minutes in and we've not see anything from Manchester United yet in terms of attacking threat. Wes Foderingham takes his time over a goal kick, probably because he's savouring his first real touch of the ball in this game.

Some very casual passing between Andre Onana and Harry Maguire at the back, but they avoid getting into any trouble.

Maguire will no doubt be keen to put in a strong performance against his former club.

This has been an encouraging start by Sheffield United. They've got the crowd behind them and have been direct, which has unsettled the Manchester United defence a little bit.

If there is anywhere Harry Maguire is guaranteed a decent reception it is here.

Maguire comes from Sheffield and played for the Blades as a youngster.

His name was applauded when it was read out - last in the visitors line-up.

  11. CLOSE!published at 3 mins

    Sheff Utd 0-0 Man Utd

Big chance inside the first three minutes for Sheffield United!

Manchester United don't clear well and Gustavo Hamer picks up the loose ball 25 yards from goal. He goes for a shot and it hits a Manchester United player but falls kindly for Oli McBurnie, but he fires straight at Andre Onana.

It is a save he should be making, but that should give Onana some confidence early on.

What was expected to be a moment's silence for the victims of the tragedies in Israel and Gaza, plus to mark the passing of Sir Bobby Charlton turned into a minute's applause.

Sheffield United must take on Manchester United tonight without long-serving defender Chris Basham, who suffered an awful leg injury at Fulham a fortnight ago.

The 35-year-old was hurt as he attempted a cross at Craven Cottage and has ended up needing two operations.

"He barely ever goes down, so we knew it was serious and feared the worst straightaway," said Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom in his programme notes.

"He is a top bloke and it has been a tough time."

The Manchester United fans have just struck up a familiar chant.

There has been precious little information to emerge out of Thursday's Board meeting, when Sir Jim Ratcliffe's proposal to buy 25% of United was expected to be mentioned.

United have confirmed their end of year financial results will be released next Thursday.

This is all a bit of an irrelevance to most United fans. They just want new ownership.

    FT: Chelsea 2-2 Arsenal

    Chelsea

Chelsea forward Cole Palmer, speaking to MOTD: "We're obviously very disappointed not to get the three points but Arsenal are a very good side and one of the best teams in the league. We went toe-to-toe with them.

"I try to show the manager every day in training what I can do - work hard and try and repay him because he puts a lot of faith in me. I'm loving it at Chelsea. Every day is good even off the pitch with the lads. There is a good vibe and everything is good.

"There are still a lot of areas we can improve on but as I said we went toe-to-toe. We're going in the right direction and there is more to come.

"He might have meant it [Mykhailo Mudryk's goal] - I don't know. If he meant it, fair play to him."

I just nipped outside Bramall Lane and had a word with visiting fan Gordon Fraser, who saw Sir Bobby Charlton play in the 1968 European Cup final at Wembley, when he scored twice in the momentous 4-1 win against Benfica.

"He was everything to United," he said. "He was Manchester United. I am 64 now and remember watching him in the 1968 final. That side, Charlton, Best, Law. It is a sad day."

Charlton's story was made all the more remarkable because he so nearly lost his life with so many of his team-mates in the fateful Munich air disaster in 1958.

"He was an original Busby Babe," said Fraser.

    "He came out of that.

"I never heard anyone have a bad word to say about him. He was so unassuming, no big headedness or great big wages. None of this £300,000-a-week.

"He played for the love of the club, not the money."
