    AC Milan 0-0 Newcastle

Samuel Chukwueze has the beating of Sandro Tonali, who drags him back on the right edge of the Newcastle box. Defending for the away side to do.

    AC Milan 0-0 Newcastle

This is much better from Newcastle.

Jacob Murphy is found in space on the right and his cross forces Mike Maignan to dive from his goal to punch away.

Alessandro Florenzi has been been having a little look at John Stones, hasn't he? It's the obvious version of the right full-back running into midfield. He ends up getting all that space and has a shot on goal. Really good technique and you can see exactly what his manager has told him to do.

Man City v Red Star Belgrade (20:00 BST)

    Simon Stone

A slightly surprising Manchester City starting line-up with Matheus Nunes given his full debut following his £53m move from Wolves.

In addition, Sergio Gomez is named at left-back.

Jeremy Doku finds himself on the bench despite his goal at West Ham on Saturday.

  7. Postpublished at 53 mins

    AC Milan 0-0 Newcastle

Milan's first real attack of the half sees Alessandro Florenzi pop up between the Newcastle defence and midfield to gather a pass, turn and then fire a low, dribbling shot wide.

  8. Postpublished at 52 mins

    AC Milan 0-0 Newcastle

Newcastle are certainly being more proactive this half, though.

  9. Postpublished at 52 mins

    AC Milan 0-0 Newcastle

Jacob Murphy goes for glory with a shot from an angle and 40 yards out. Needless to say, he fails to find it.

I think Schar has actually led with his left elbow there, I think the referee has got that one right.

  13. YELLOW CARDpublished at 50 mins

    AC Milan 0-0 Newcastle

Fabian Schar leaps with Tommaso Pobega and leaves his elbow in on the back of the Milan man's head. It's the kind of thing you see every game, every week. It earns Schar a booking, though.

Aaron: Still in this game..just. Why are players scared to dive in, play Milan at their own dirty game. Got to learn from the Liverpool game, stop playing everything down the right. Their RB is on a yellow and screaming for a red

Anon: Newcastle just finding their feet 45 mins into their first CL foray in 2 decades. Plenty more to come.

  15. Postpublished at 48 mins

    AC Milan 0-0 Newcastle

A more positive start from Newcastle.

Anthony Gordon sets up Sandro Tonali for an effort from the edge of the box that is blocked.

You suspect the Italian would be a 'no celebration at your old club' kinda fella.

  16. Postpublished at 46 mins

    AC Milan 0-0 Newcastle

Milan manager Stefano Pioli was deep in chat with Christian Pulisic and Tijjani Reijnders just before the game restarted. Don't be surprised if we see them soon if things don't go to plan for Milan.

  17. KICK-OFFpublished at 18:49 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

    AC Milan 0-0 Newcastle

Newcastle can't have another half like the first. They'll likely lose this if they do.

They need to give Milan something to worry about.

We are back under way with the home side having sent on Alessandro Florenzi for Davide Calabria, who is the captain but was booked in the first half.

  18. 'Newcastle aren't clicking'published at 18:47 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

    HT: AC Milan 0-0 Newcastle

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Newcastle aren't clicking. There's not been a great understanding between Dan Burn and Anthony Gordon. You do need to get some service as a winger and a lot of your time it's got to come from your full-back.

  19. Postpublished at 18:46 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

    HT: AC Milan 0-0 Newcastle

Since 2003-04, Milan are the sixth different side to have as many as seven shots on target without scoring, and the first since Chelsea against Malmo in November 2021.

Anon: Newcastle have to offer more. There’s lots of pretty midfield stuff but it’s toothless. Milan aren’t that marvellous but Newcastle are showing them way too much respect

Sam: It's like watching Everton v Arsenal all over again. One team has no interest in the win.

Anon: Pope deserves to be canonised if he keeps Newcastle in this game.
