In the other early game in the Champions League today, Young Boys and RB Leipzig are also drawing. There's been some goals, though.

Mohamed Simakan gave Leipzig the lead in the third minute before Meschack Elia levelled just after the 30-minute mark.

  2. 'Got to try and control the midfield'published at 18:37 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

Newcastle have defended fairly well, the keeper has been brilliant, the best player for Newcastle today.

Eddie will get them in there and say 'there will always be a bit of pressure away from home in the Champions League. It's 0-0, they've not got past you yet, but you've got to try and get some control in that midfield'.

I suspect a little change at half-time, a little bit more energy. We'll see what Eddie Howe thinks.

    AC Milan 0-0 Newcastle

Not a second of added time at the end of the half.

Newcastle knew this Champions League lark would be a proper test. They've been on the back foot for most of it so far. They've been bent out of shape at time, but they've not been broken yet.

Little signs of frustration now from the home players and fans. Alexander Isak is fouled on halfway and it prompts huge screams of discontent from the stands.

Think they'll be as annoyed at their own side as Newcastle. They should really be leading here.

I don't think the referee could ignore that one because Calabria is right in his face. You can't stand in a referee's face these days and shout and bawl at them.

Will: Milan's finishing has been absolutely shocking

Zac: Olivier Giroud - most underrated striker of the 21st century?

    A shot from Newcastle.

Jacob Murphy looks to curl one in from the edge of the box but sends it well wide.

  8. YELLOW CARDpublished at 40 mins

    AC Milan 0-0 Newcastle

Milan captain Davide Calabria has too much to say to the ref and gets a booking. Not sure what he was so unhappy about?

  9. 'Tomori has done an excellent job'published at 18:26 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

Milan have done a fantastic job on Anthony Gordon. His first run you thought he'd got Calabria for pace, but the problem is you can't do someone for pace when you have the ball. They've managed him and Alexander Isak really well. Fikayo Tomori has done an excellent job.

If Newcastle can make it to the break still 0-0, that will be a big plus.

    AC Milan 0-0 Newcastle

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Part of Newcastle's problem is that you can't just sit back and hope that it's going to happen. You've got to make it happen a few times as well and so far they haven't done enough of that.

It's 0-0 and most teams would take that here.

    More Milan chances!

Rafael Leao is involved again, heading at the back post to send the ball back into the middle for Samuel Chukwueze to head over.

The flag is up, though, for an offside somewhere.

    It was incredible there.

I can tell you one reason why they didn't score there: that man Rafael Leao tried to be just too clever. He tried an outrageous backheel and it wasn't on. Just kick the ball in the back of the net.

Nick Pope is doing everything possible to keep Newcastle in this game.

Rafael Leao. Such a talent. But also has it in his locker to do the odd buffoonish thing.

It's almost like he's not fully in control of his legs at times. That end bit there was like watching someone try to move a broken stepladder.

    Sublime to the ridiculous!

Rafael Leao beats one man and then drives for the box. He weaves brilliantly past two men in the area but when the crucial moment comes to shoot he tries for a backheel that causes him to fall over.

The danger isn't over, though, for Newcastle and Nick Pope has to be alert to save a shot from Malick Thiaw after Tommaso Pobega's effort is blocked.

Immediately down the other end and Olivier Giroud has the chance to shoot from close range. The angle is tight, though, and he can't steer his effort on target.

  18. Postpublished at 31 mins

    AC Milan 0-0 Newcastle

Sean Longstaff tumbles in the box. He's looking for the foul, though. The referee is quick to wave away any chance of a penalty. Why didn't he stay on his feet and shoot? He looked to be in.

Replays show there is a tiny shove from Rafael Leao, but is that enough to send him down or stop him shooting?!

  19. Postpublished at 30 mins

    AC Milan 0-0 Newcastle

Well, Newcastle have made it to the 30-minute mark with the game still all square. They've been under the cosh at times, but they're showing here they're not in this competition to be a pushover.

  20. Postpublished at 27 mins

    Oh, the idea is nice!

Sean Longstaff makes a really good run in behind the Milan defence and Jacob Murphy tries to find him with a pass from the right. He puts just a bit too much on it.
