  1. Naismith eyes string of resultspublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

St Mirren v Heart of Midlothian (15:00)

Hearts head coach Steven Naismith tells Sportsound: "The next game is always an opportunity to bring more confidence, be better and cut out the bad moments from previous games.

"It's going to be a tough game. St Mirren have started really well and have a real consistency. We understand how the game will be to start with and what to expect.

"It's about us causing more problems for St Mirren than they cause us. The league table is irrelevant at the moment, but it's a chance to string two results together."

  2. We're there to be shot at - Robinsonpublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

St Mirren v Heart of Midlothian (15:00)

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson tells Sportsound: "We can look for a big improvement in terms of last week's performance on the ball.

"We defended well and were well organised, but we've reset a bit this week and we're looking for a better performance with a similar result.

"There's a big belief here and that's half the battle. These boys believe in the system and in each other.

"We're there to be shot at. We're unbeaten for 10 games now. That doesn't come easy - we have to keep working hard."

  3. Tavares 'more than deserves a start'published at 14:54 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

    Hibernian v St Johnstone (15:00)

Hibernian head coach Nick Montgomery tells BBC Scotland: "When I came in, I told everyone there was a clean slate. I'm not interested with what's gone on before.

"Jair Tavares has shown me he's a good player with a great attitude. Elie Youan took a bit of a knock and we have three games coming up, so Jair more than deserves a start."

Not only did he shepherd Celtic to three extremely valuable points, but manager Brendan Rodgers also did one of his club's fans a huge favour by ushering a steward away and walking the supporter off the field before he got himself into any bother.

The travelling support appreciated that, as they did the level of performance as Livi were blown away by a Celtic side that played most of the match with 10 men.

  5. McInnes concentrates on own teampublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

    Dundee v Kilmarnock (15:00)

Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes has also been talking about being in opposition to former assistant Tony Docherty.

"These things come up in football - you work with so many people," he tells BBC Scotland. "Everyone is aware of the longevity of our partnership.

"I'm really pleased that the opportunity has come up for Tony to be a manager. It was the right opportunity for him.

"He's put together a good squad, he's been well supported. Hopefully my players are better than his.

"Sometimes the importance of tactics is overplayed. At this level, everyone has an idea of what the opposition will do. The Dundee team is the team we expected. You have to concentrate on your own team."

  6. Celtic enjoy domestic comfort blanketpublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

    Livingston 0-2 Celtic

    Kheredine Idessane

Down to nine men in the Champions League in midweek, Celtic once again failed to finish with the full complement but weren’t exposed at all as they returned to the relative warmth of the domestic comfort blanket.

Which is why this victory will feel like an especially valuable one.

Winning in West Lothian hasn’t been easy for Celtic in the past few years, even with 11 men, so to do it – and do it comfortably - with a man fewer for over an hour speaks volumes for those who remained on the park when Joe Hart was ordered from it.

That’s five wins and a draw in the league despite an defensive injury crisis and the introduction of midweek Champions League football. Not a bad position to be in ahead of a free week when Celtic have plenty of time to recover and prepare for the trip to Fir Park in seven days’ time.

  7. We're both competitors - Dochertypublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

    Dundee v Kilmarnock (15:00)

Dundee boss Tony Docherty talks to BBC Scotland about going up against his old pal - and his team changes.

"I'm looking forward to it, as I'm sure Derek is," he says. "It's important to recognise and reflect on the brilliant years together. But we're now working for different clubs.

"I know his personality, he knows mine. We're both competitors. We'll be doing all we can to win for our clubs, no more than that. I'm thinking more about what my team can do.

"Fin and Cammy are good players, but today is a different tactic. Everyone understands that as a squad. The crowd are so important for us here, they understand the role they play."

  8. Easter Road bow for Montgomerypublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

The last four Hibs team bosses have all achieved victory in their first competitive match at Easter Road (Paul Heckingbottom, Jack Ross, Shaun Maloney and Lee Johnson). Can Nick Montgomery join the club?

For St Johnstone, Steven MacLean is simply looking for a win that would lift his side off the bottom of the table. Even a draw would do this for at least the next 24 hours.

This is a much-changed Saints squad and some of these players may require time to settle into the hustle and bustle of Scottish football.

Tony Docherty and Derek McInnes worked together for 15 years. They were a strong team, but today they're in opposing dug-outs at Dens Park.

Both admit it'll be an odd feeling for them looking over at the opposite technical areas. They know each other inside out, they'll have spoken about every tactic in the book when trying to out-fox other sides, but will they be able to out-fox each other?

I'm sure their long friendship won't be on the line, but during the 90-odd minutes today, it might just be tested a tad.

  10. Tough for managerless Caley Thistlepublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

    Scottish Championship

Ayr United bounced back from last week's home hammering by Partick Thistle to thump hosts Queen's Park 5-2 last night as the Hampden side missed the chance to move up to second in the Championship.

Are there any shock results in store today in a second tier that is proving to be as competitive as ever?

Having sacked Billy Dodds, bottom side Inverness Caledonian Thistle couldn't have a tougher fixture for their first match under caretaker John Robertson as they host unbeaten title favourites Dundee United.

However, Raith Rovers are the early leaders and they take their unbeaten run to Lanarkshire to face Airdrieonians.

Pre-season favourites Falkirk and Hamilton Academical have already established a six-point lead at the top of the third tier.

It's a four-way tie between Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic, Stenhousemuir, Dumbarton and Stranraer at the top of what is shaping up to be an exciting battle in the fourth tier.

Bonnyrigg host Stenny in the match of the day, while Dumbarton entertain Peterhead, who are just a point behind.

Stranraer are at home to Forfar Athletic, who surprisingly find themselves second from bottom.

  13. Three changes for Dundee; Killie unchangedpublished at 14:38 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

    Dundee v Kilmarnock (15:00)

Dundee's Tony Docherty changes three as he comes up against his former boss Derek McInnes. In come midfielders Scott Tiffoney and Josh Mulligan and the versatile Jordan McGhee.

Ryan Howley and Fin Robertson have both picked up knocks and drop out, with the latter making the bench. Cammy Kerr is the other man replaced. On-loan Burnley winger Marcel Lewis could make his debut from the bench.

Will Dennis came off injured in the 2-2 draw with Hibs, but the on-loan Bournemouth goalkeeper recovers to keep his place in an unchanged Kilmarnock team.

  14. Tavares starts for Hibs, Sprangler debut for Saintspublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

    Hibernian v St Johnstone (15:00)

Hibs forwards Elie Youan and Christian Doidge drop to the bench after going off injured in the 2-2 draw at Kilmarnock last weekend.

Adam Le Fondre and Jair Tavares start in their places, with the Portuguese making just his third league start since joining from Benfica B in the summer of 2022.

There's a change at left-back as well, with Jordan Obita taking over from club stalwart Lewis Stevenson.

St Johnstone include Austrian midfielder Sven Sprangler for the first time now that his work permit process is complete.

Drey Wright returns from a calf injury, while James Brown, Sam McClelland, Cameron MacPherson and Stevie May also come in.

Captain Liam Gordon is missing after a head knock in the 2-0 loss to Rangers, with Chris Kane also absent. Oludare Olufunwa, Max Kucheriavyi, Matt Smith, Dara Costelloe are among the substitutes.

  15. Two Buddies changes; Baningime starts for Heartspublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

St Mirren v Heart of Midlothian (15:00)

Stephen Robinson makes two changes from the St Mirren XI that started the 1-0 win over Motherwell.

Keanu Baccus comes in for Caolan Boyd-Munce in midfield and Toyosi Olusanya replaces Mikael Mandron up front.

Ryan Flynn and James Bolton have brushed off injury concerns to make the bench.

Hearts have Odel Offiah back in the group following illness and he is named among the subs, but Yutaro Oda is not in the squad after picking up a knock against Aberdeen.

Midfielders Calem Nieuwenhof and Beni Baningime start for Steven Naismith's side, in place of Oda and Peter Haring.

Celtic show their superiority as they ease into a five-point lead at the top of the Premiership - at least until St Mirren face Hearts shortly.

A Reo Hatate penalty was followed by a Joe Hart red card that gave Livingston hope of a comeback, but the reigning champions cruise home thanks to second-half goals from Matt O'Riley and Daizen Maeda.
