  1. 'They deserve to be level'published at 13:05 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

    Preston 1-1 Millwall

    Jamie Hoyland
Former Preston youth coach on BBC Radio Lancashire

Nobody has taken charge to go and win it. The defending just wasn't physical enough - it was a fantastic finish but they've got to get closer to stop the shot. Freddie Woodman had no chance.

From being in charge of the game for 15 or 20 minutes Preston have really let Millwall back into it and, on the balance of things, I think they deserve to be level.

Preston are on the ropes a little bit.

    Zian Flemming (30 mins)

    Absolutely lovely finish this.

Zian Flemming had a super first season in English football but he's found this season harder going.

Could this be the goal that gets him going?

He produces a great turn 25 yards out from goal to move free of a defender and then unleashes an unstoppable shot beyond Freddie Woodman.

    Beauty.

  3. 'It's a fantastic bit of defending'published at 12:59 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

    Preston 1-0 Millwall

    Jamie Hoyland
Former Preston youth coach on BBC Radio Lancashire

It's Duane Holmes again, as soon as he is in space he opens his body up and runs at the defence.

In the end he plays a great ball across and it's a fantastic bit of defending from Wes Harding, he just got a nick on it and it didn't get to Robbie Brady at the back post otherwise it would have been 2-0.

  4. Postpublished at 25 mins

    Preston 1-0 Millwall

Adam Barrett will be pleased with how his side are moving the ball when they get on it but defensively they've looked very open on turnovers.

Wes Harding just about touches a low cross around the post as Robbie Brady look to make it 2-0 at the back stick from a low cross.

  5. YELLOW CARDpublished at 19 mins

    Preston 1-0 Millwall

Duane Holmes booked for the home side for clipping the heels of Joe Bryan on the halfway line.

Maybe a touch harsh on the Preston midfielder that.

  6. Postpublished at 18 mins

    Preston 1-0 Millwall

Aidomo Emakhu is looking very lively for the away side in his full league debut.

The teenager picks up the ball on the halfway line and turns well to open up space.

He eventually opts to shoot and sends a tame effort at Freddie Woodman in the home goal.

Striker Tom Bradshaw had made a great run and... lets him know he maybe should have passed it.

  7. 'Something for Preston to work on'published at 12:48 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

    Preston 1-0 Millwall

    Jamie Hoyland
Former Preston youth coach on BBC Radio Lancashire

That's one thing Preston can work on, Casper de Norre looks a bit cumbersome on the ball and Duane Holmes was past him there.

He's gone on and on but eventually hit the shot at a nice height for the keeper, either side and lower and it was 2-0.

  8. Postpublished at 14 mins

    Preston 1-0 Millwall

    What are Millwall doing?!

They lose the ball in midfield and then just leave Duane Holmes to run unchallenged at goal.

He thumps an effort too close to Bartosz Bialkowski in the Lions goal as an away defender eventually decides to make some sort of challenge.

  9. Postpublished at 12 mins

    Preston 1-0 Millwall

Fantastic opening few minutes at Deepdale.

If the rest of this game, and indeed the rest of today's EFL action, matches up with this then we're in for a great day.

  10. 'Ryan Lowe will be furious'published at 12:43 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

    Preston 1-0 Millwall

    Jamie Hoyland
Former Preston youth coach on BBC Radio Lancashire

Ryan Lowe will be absolutely furious. Preston had a corner but Jordan Holmes has taken a bad touch and all of a sudden Millwall have a four-on-two break. They have over-committed there.

Freddie Woodman has done well to tip it onto the bar and Preston have done well to end up with Millwall only having a long throw.

  11. GREAT SAVE!published at 10 mins

    Preston 1-0 Millwall

Super save from Preston goalkeeper Freddie Woodman!

The away side launch a rapid counter after clearing a home corner and Aidomo Emakhu charges for goal before unleashing a shot which takes a huge deflection.

Woodman does really well to turn the shot over the crossbar.

  12. Postpublished at 8 mins

    Preston 1-0 Millwall

Just as it goes today would have been Gary Rowett's fourth anniversary as Millwall boss.

He left on Wednesday by mutual consent after a mixed start to the season.

Veteran gaffer Neil Warnock has already been linked with the position...

On the pitch, the home side are pressing for a second in a blistering start.

  13. 'Great awareness from Keane'published at 12:37 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

    Prreston 1-0 Millwall

    Jamie Hoyland
Former Preston youth coach on BBC Radio Lancashire

What a bright start. You have to say it's poor defending from Millwall letting it come into the box like that from out wide though.

The awareness from Will Keane is even better than the finish. A two or three yard ball to his side and it's an easy chance if he can finish it, which he does well.

  14. goal

    Mads Frokjaer (3 mins)

Preston's Mads Frokjaer scores against MillwallImage source, Rex Features

    That didn't take long!

Nightmare start for the managerless visitors.

Nice build-up play by the home side down their right ends with a ball being played into the feet of Will Keane in the middle.

He either miscontrols it or neatly tees it up for Mads Frokjaer depending on your viewpoint and the Dane sweep a low shot into the corner.

  15. KICK-OFFpublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

    Preston 0-0 Millwall

After a period of silence for the innocent people who have died in the conflict in Israel and Gaza we're off and running in Lancashire.

Lovely conditions for a game today, quite the contrast from the past couple of days.

Can Preston end their three-match losing run and close the gap on the top two or will Millwall make a flying start to life after Gary Rowett?

Rooney on Birmingham City Premier League ambition

There might have been no action on the pitch in the Championship for the past two weeks but it's been a different story off it.

Former England skipper Wayne Rooney has been appointed boss of Birmingham City after Blues parted company with John Eustace, despite being fifth in the table.

Sheffield Wednesday have turned to Danny Rohl to try and save their season after their desperate start under Xisco Munoz.

The Owls are rock bottom with just three points from 11 games and the 34-year-old German faces a huge task to try and keep them up in what is the former Bayern Munich assistant's first managerial role.

Millwall parted company with boss Gary Rowett on Wednesday after just shy of four years in charge at The Den after a mixed start to the campaign.

It's never dull in the Championship.

Walsall striker Freddie Draper has now scored eight goals in 12 League Two appearances since joining on loan from Lincoln

Last night's two League Two games did go ahead despite the bad weather.

Freddie Draper was the star man for Walsall as his hat-trick earned them a point from a 3-3 draw at Newport.

Doncaster claimed a 2-1 win at lowly Tranmere as they continue their improved form.

  19. Take two...published at 12:15 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

    Preston v Millwall (12:30 BST)

Preston's Deepdale groundImage source, Rex Features

After two weeks away the Championship is, slightly belatedly, back this afternoon.

We've had to wait an extra 16 hours after yesterday's clash between Rotherham and Ipswich had to be postponed because of Storm Babet.

Thankfully conditions appear to have improved for much of the country since then and Preston v Millwall, plus the subsequent 10 Championship games we have this afternoon will all go ahead.

Ryan Lowe's men will close the gap on the top two with a victory, while the Lions, who parted company with boss Gary Rowett on Wednesday, would move into play-off contention with an away win.

Let's try this again shall we?
