  1. 'There were two games'published at 17:31 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2023

Brighton 1-1 Sheff Utd (14:00 BST)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi to Sky/Premier League Productions:

“There were two games – one until the red card and the second game with 10 players.

“In the first one we deserved to win with more goals but because of our mistakes the result was only 1-0 - and in the second part of the game we concede.

“We have lost four points – two against Fulham and two today - to two shots on goal which is unlucky.

“In the second half before the red card we had a lot of chances to score the second goal, third goal but if we don’t close the game you have to fight until the end.

“With 10 players we could have defended better, with more order – I didn’t like that we lost order.

“In terms of attitude to win the game, I can say nothing – I think the quality of the play was very good, a great game but if you are playing like we did in the first 70 minutes you have to close the game and score two or three or four goals, not only one."

Tom: Chelsea need to find Gallagher, he's had space on the edge twice now and hasn't been picked out.

  3. 'In this VAR era, it's a clear red'published at 17:31 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2023

    FT: Liverpool 3-0 Brentford

    Brentford

Brentford manager Thomas Frank speaking to BBC MOTD: "I think in general we played a good game and close to being a very good game. We need to remember to look behind the numbers. It's never as good or as bad as them. Today I really liked my team. We were brave, we pressed high, created chances and gave the least away. I felt there was something here for us.

"When you lose 3-0, there's no doubt they were better in the big moments. And it's Liverpool. It's at Anfield. It's Mohamed Salah. But there were some big moments and chances and the second and third goals we should avoid. That would have kept us in the game. There were lots of positives and we just need to go again. In the big moments they handled them better than we did."

On Wataru Endo's challenge on Christian Norgaard: "I think it's a clear free-kick and at least a yellow card on the pitch. I think these situations are not a red card. But in the VAR world, where we have slow motion, and you freeze it and he clearly goes over the ball with too much force onto the leg of Norgaard... Then I think, if Rashford's is a red, Curtis Jones' is a red, Josh Dasilva's is a red - then I think this is also a clear red. I don't think any of them should be, but in this era apparently, it is a clear red. I would just like to have that consistency."

  4. Pochettino fumingpublished at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2023

    Chelsea 2-2 Man City

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino threw his arms out in disgust at his team's failure to mark Manuek Akanji for Manchester City's equaliser.

It's a big moment because Chelsea had done brilliantly to turn the game on its head but now City have at least regained some of the initiative by going in level at the interval.

    Very, very lively first half.

  5. 'Stay humble and try to achieve something'published at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2023

    FT: Aston Villa 3-1 Fulham

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa captain John McGinn: "The manager was screaming at half-time 'clean sheet, clean sheet'. I've not seen him yet so maybe he's angry.

"Hopefully we can carry on, stay humble and try to achieve something we haven't done in a while."

On whether they can finish top five: "It's the next challenge. Last season it was top 10 but we got into Europe. We have to respect the teams who have been there for years. Fulham will cause a lot of teams problems.

"The manager put a lot of pressure on me at the start of the season to get 10 goals. I have five in all competitions. Let's see if I can put a smile on his face."

  6. 'I couldn't respect them more'published at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2023

    FT: Liverpool 3-0 Brentford

    Liverpool

More from Jurgen Klopp speaking to Sky Sports on Brentford: "They don't just have set-pieces, they have a really good idea. They had a chance in the first half with Bryan Mbeumo and I can't remember who made the pass but the whole situation was like 'oh my god, this is so difficult.'

"You can always say we were a bit too open in moments like this but it was not the case today. We can't control everything and they use these moments, have a clear idea and it is horrible. I couldn't respect them more. Putting such a mature performance like we did on the pitch today is pretty special and I'm really happy with that.

"We had a difficult week. We were not happy with the performances but I have never experienced a season with faultless games every week. It can always happen so you need to react. And we reacted against a difficult opponent. We were really young on the bench and we didn't get taller when the set-pieces came and we brought them on! The boys did exceptionally well.

"This group is pretty new together but there was a season in 18-19 and we had 98 points. It was not far away from a perfect season but it was not perfect. We won the Champions League and I remember in that season we had two of the most horrible games, ever. We lost 2-0 at Napoli and that was really difficult to watch. We also did it at Red Star Belgrade. It's not about games you're not happy with, it's about reaction. Today was a day where they could have had lots of excuses. I saw just a team who wanted to win this football game. We did it and we deserved it. Mohamed Salah is pretty special.

"We can create an atmosphere, the people are ready. They are always ready to go and we must react to that. It was like that again. The boys showed passion. Anfield did the rest. It's a special place, we all know that."

  7. 'We need to be more relaxed and calm'published at 17:29 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2023

    FT: Aston Villa 3-1 Fulham

    Fulham

Fulham boss Marco Silva to BBC Sport: "The way we played in the second half, we showed our quality. The first half, no. Some details I don’t like to call unlucky. Another own goal. Even the second goal, two players fight for the ball. They’re not normal things.

"We need to be more relaxed and calm. We have to express ourselves on the ball. The first half not enough, second half completely different but it was 2-0. We gave the ball away so easy for the third goal. The reaction and commitment was there. We had chance to make it 3-2 and it would be different until the end."

On Raul Jimenez getting his first goal: "It’s important. I don’t like to put all the pressure on the strikers. The other players have to take that responsibility as well. I really believe in the future he will score and we will take points.

"Of course when we don’t get good results it’s something to be concerned about. We knew this would be a tough match and it was."

On losing players for the international break: "It’s not good. I’d prefer we have all of them to work and settle some important things we needed. Some of our players have been out a long time and it’ll be good to have them with us. We’ll have 13 or 14 players gone but it’s a good sign you have so many international players."

  8. 'We are the best scoring team in the league'published at 17:28 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2023

    FT: Aston Villa 3-1 Fulham

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery to BBC Sport: "It’s special for everyone. We connected very well with our supporters. We had control of the game in the first half. It was important for us to get the first goal [in the second half] but when they scored we needed to try to control the game and be consistent in our game plan and we were.

"We are the best scoring team in the league. It’s important because we’re showing our potential but we have to be stronger defensively.

"We had more control in the first half. We lost control of the game [at one stage]. They were trying to attack us and get behind and push a lot with some players."

On John McGinn: "He is playing always being positive and trying to help the team. We’re demanding of him. The fans love him a lot. It’s fantastic because he’s responding on the pitch and connecting with them and always playing with the game plan we have. He’s adding goals. He’s a very good example for everyone."

On their hopes of finishing high: "Now today we can be happy and optimistic about where we are. But you have to be very consistent. It’s very difficult. We’ll try to work hard to be there. It’s always another challenge we’re facing. Now we’re very happy. We want to rest and come back next week to try to be in the same way we are doing. Facing Tottenham away is a big challenge. They are playing very well."

  9. 'Top performance, top goals'published at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2023

    FT: Liverpool 3-0 Brentford

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp speaking to BBC MOTD: "More than 20 years ago when I started my career, I wanted to create a team that nobody wants to play against and we faced that team today.

"It's crazy! This spell where they had six corners in a row I thought 'oh god.' But we defended with so much passion in the moment. The goals we scored were fantastic.

"Top goals, top performances. Darwin Nunez's work rate for example was second to none. The boys were there for second balls. It was a difficult game against a top opponent so I'm really happy with the performance and the result.

"The squad is a really good squad. The kids who were on the bench today enjoyed it a lot. James McConnell came on and obviously he really enjoyed it too! A good day.

"Wataru Endo's performance was top. He saved our lives in many moments and was super disciplined. So many good moments. The wind made life difficult and they pressed so there were tricky moments but he was really good.

"Actually, [the Man City game is] not what I'm thinking about. These boys who played today need recovery, I hope they get that before games with their countries and hopefully they come back healthy then we can try [against Manchester City]. It's about reacting [to defeats] and the reaction today was great."

The clash of the big spenders is throwing up some interesting battles. Guardiola's £500m on defenders as opposed to Chelsea's £500m on midfielders. Who'll come out on top?

It's really poor defending from Chelsea. You can't allow a big centre half that much space on the edge of the six-yard box.
