Oh that's a shame. A really dangerous attack for Newcastle but Miguel Almiron gets his through ball to Anthony Gordon wrong.

Tino Livramento has been excellent for Newcastle in recent games, has hardly put a foot wrong.

So far in this game he is 100% taking Marcus Rashford into a defensive area of the pitch that he does not want to be in.

If you are Eddie Howe and Newcastle that is exactly where you want him, as far away from your goal as possible.

    Newcastle 0-0 Man Utd

Boos from the Newcastle fans as Harry Maguire decides to do his laces up in the box, stopping Andre Onana from taking a goal-kick. Time wasting already? It did feel like it.

  4. Postpublished at 21 mins

    Newcastle 0-0 Man Utd

Alexander Isak flicks the ball over his head back into the danger zone and Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles heads over from six yards out.

My initial reaction was that Isak could have hit that first time.

Maybe it came to him too quickly and he had to take the touch to set himself. It then just deflects off the heel of Maguire to divert it wide.

But a huge chance for Newcastle.

How are Newcastle not ahead yet? They are finding so many spaces in behind, Alexander Isak's shot is deflected just wide by Harry Maguire.

A goal is coming surely. Tino Livramento is in acres of space and starts a move that ends in Bruno Guimaraes flashing a shot just over from 20 yards.

  8. 'Big hand from Onana'published at 20:18 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2023

It was a big hand from Andre Onana there, a good save to deny Almiron.

Mainoo is caught wrongside with the ball into the channel from Trippier but take nothing away from the save.

Good save by Andre Onana to stop Newcastle taking the lead. He gets down low to keep out Miguel Almiron's effort from Joelinton's cut-back. The Magpies have been excellent so far.

Newcastle's front 3 look hungry after the midweek controversy. After this start I’d be surprised if we don’t see a high scoreline here.

Great opening 15 minutes for Newcastle you've got to say.

Started on the front foot, made a few promising openings.

Good defending by Luke Shaw to track Alexander Isak's run into the box and block his shot.

Anthony Gordon has a shot blocked by his own man Bruno Guimaraes, and he's offside. So Manchester United have a free-kick and a chance to see some of the ball.

That is three passes from Bruno Fernandes now that have opened up the Newcastle defence.

That suggests the Manchester United skipper is being allowed too much room in midfield.

Newcastle must sharpen up, otherwise they will get punished.

It did hit Dalot's hand but I thought it was a natural position. To be honest, it wasn't great goalkeeping from Andre Onana.

Good first touch by Aaron Wan-Bissaka to get into a shooting position 20 yards out but the Manchester United defender's resulting shot is blocked.

The bigger concern than a potential handball from Dalot is the fact that he felt like he had to get there ahead of his goalkeeper.

Did he not trust his goalkeeper to take the ball there?

From that movement it seems like the United defence has lost confidence in Onana - normally that sort of ball in behind is a goalkeeper's to claim nine times out of ten.

  18. Postpublished at 11 mins

First attack for Manchester United as Alejandro Garnacho races into the box but his shot is saved by Nick Pope at his near post.

He should have flicked the ball up for a bikey.

  19. Postpublished at 10 mins

Oh my word. Miscommunication at the back for Manchester United with Diogo Dalot kicking the ball over his own keeper Andre Onana before clearing.

He actually kicked the ball against his own arm but no penalty.
