Manchester United haven't settled and are struggling to string two or three passes together.

Having said that, Newcastle haven't really threatened.

    Newcastle 0-0 Man Utd

    Ally McCoist
Former Rangers striker & manager on TNT Sports

That was excellent play on that left hand side from Livramento.

Rashford looked to have closed him down enough but he had quick feet to breeze by him and earn a corner for Newcastle.

Unconvincing keeping by Andre Onana as that cross comes in but it doesn't land to a Newcastle player.

Erik ten Hag starts making some notes.

  8. 'A massive result'published at 20:06 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2023

    FT: Nottingham Forest 0-1 Everton

    Everton

Everton goalscorer Dwight McNeil, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It was a massive result after what's happened. I thought we were amazing for the full 90 mins and deserved the win.

"The lads were telling me to get back post because I get more goals there. I am happy to contribute to the team winning.

"The points deduction? It's definitely galvanised us and we are more together and that shows on the pitch. We know we have the fans behind us and it's all about focusing on ourselves."

It is difficult to describe the noise from the Gallowgate as the ball ran back to Andre Onana.

A kind of 'woooooooohhh'. Clearly designed to unsettle the Manchester United goalkeeper.

Erik ten Hag says Onana has the confidence to deal with the criticism he has received.

He also said Onana is the Premier League's second best goalkeeper 'according to the stats'.

Newcastle fans make a lot of noise as the ball comes to the feet of Manchester United keeper Andre Onana but he doesn't panic and gets it away.

If there's no hangover from Paris then I expect a straight forward Newcastle three points. The United line up says it all for me so unless ETH has some surprises regarding tactics up his sleeve then I think it'll be a long night for United.

Newcastle v Man Utd (20:00 GMT)

    Ally McCoist
Former Rangers striker & manager on TNT Sports

Newcastle are down to the bare bones at the moment.

They were excellent away in Paris and will be going into this game tonight with the same side.

It will be interesting to see if the amount of minutes that these players are playing at the moment with all the injuries will impact the way they approach this one.

  16. 'We've not lost games because our opponents are better'published at 20:01 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2023

    FT: Nottingham Forest 0-1 Everton

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We’ve not shown the real guile and quality to create chances. It wasn’t a game with loads of chances. There wasn’t a great deal in the game.

“In the initial start to the game we showed that a bit. It was a little bit ‘you have the ball, we have the ball’ and vice-versa.

“We’ve lost three games on the bounce. I think what’s frustrating is that we’ve lost games knowing that we can do better. We’ve not lost games because the opponents have been much better than us, which was often the case last year. It’s not the case this year.

“We’ve come away thinking ‘that’s on us’. It’s about results, so we have work to do.

“I said pre-match, you’re never far away from over-the-top praise and unfair criticism. I can honestly say I don’t pay attention to any of it. Some clubs are noisier than others and some are calmer than others.”

  17. Eddie Howe's in chargepublished at 20:00 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2023

Newcastle v Man Utd (20:00 GMT)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at St James' Park

I suspect quite a lot of people thought Eddie Howe wouldn't last that long as Newcastle manager once the Saudi Arabian-backed owners got their feet under the table at St James' Park.

But Howe has done an outstanding job so far, qualifying for the Champions League last season and taking Newcastle to within a minute of home and away wins against PSG.

He deserves the support from the stands.

Anthony Gordon has been involved in six goals in his last seven Premier League games (four goals, two assists), as many as in his previous 45 appearances.

Alexander Isak has netted five goals in his last five Premier League appearances.

  19. 'Man Utd won't be afraid of St James' atmosphere'published at 19:57 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2023

Newcastle v Man Utd (20:00 GMT)

    Jermaine Jenas
Former Newcastle midfielder on TNT Sports

I think in the last couple of weeks handling hot atmospheres has not been the issue for Manchester United.

They've won at Goodison Park, gone away to Galatasaray and done well, so that is not the issue for them.

They know that they will need to keep St James' Park quiet tonight, but they're on a good run of form at the moment and won't be afraid of playing here.

  20. Reguilon slips down the Man Utd pecking orderpublished at 19:56 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2023

Newcastle v Man Utd (20:00 GMT)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at St James' Park

Manchester United's team selection suggests Luke Shaw will partner Harry Maguire in central defence, with Diogo Dalot at left-back.

Even with Tyrell Malacia facing an even longer spell on the sidelines after having a second lot of knee surgery, it is hard to see where Sergio Reguilon fits in.

Reguilon was signed on loan from Spurs on deadline day, when both Shaw and Malacia were sidelined.

Reguilon has made seven appearances but only one since Manchester United were hammered by Newcastle in the EFL Cup on 1 November.
