Crystal Palace 0-0 Liverpool
Palace win the first corner of the game but Liverpool get it away and are quickly on the break. Mo Salah tries to pick out Darwin Nunez inside the box but Sam Johnstone shows good confidence to claim the cross.

Chris from Croydon (12:30) has forgotten that Palace got to the FA Cup semi-final as recently as 2022. The manager? Patrick Vieira. Maybe hastily sacking him on the back of a poor run against the top eight wasn't the answer after all.
Dean, Thornton Heath.
Crystal Palace 0-0 Liverpool
Frustrating. The flag goes up but play goes on with Liverpool on the attack before Kostas Tsimikas has an attempt. Only after that is play called back.

Right now it's turning over too quickly, you're seeing Trent Alexander-Arnold rotate into midfield, Mo Salah dropping deep to pick up the ball and it's posing an early problem.
They really have to try to take care of the ball. They're not going to dominate possession but try to take more care and look after it a bit.
Crystal Palace 0-0 Liverpool
It's all pretty scrappy as both sides come to terms with the wet and windy conditions. A glorious cross-field pass by Trent Alexander-Arnold almost sparks an attack but Palace are alert to the danger.

Palace fans have always taken pride in staying with the players and the manager, as Roy well knows, but Wednesday was an abysmal performance. We aren't fussed about the result, we know we've done well to stay in this league, but you can't just sit there and let that go unnoticed. Expect a big reaction today.
Joe
Roy's comments after the game on Wednesday were unacceptable. One win at home all season is not being spoiled. It's a sign we're going backwards under his dated and prehistoric siege mentality tactics. Benching Olise for today is a sign Roy has lost the plot.

First shot in anger and it's from an unlikely source. Kostas Tsimikas tries his luck from outside the Palace box. A proper defender's finish. Well wide.
Crystal Palace 0-0 Liverpool
Oh dear. A lot of negativity around the Palace fan base at the moment. Will the team give supporters something to cheer?

Can't score....one win in 8 games.... desperate for points...I know, drop our most creative player against one of best teams in Europe. Nice one Roy....it's going to be a long day

Re 12:19 Palace have not gone in a cup run in a few years now, keep playing reserve teams and getting knocked out. Also, as a season ticket holder where is this exciting football - that is the issue the football is dull, we don’t score goals and we don’t go on cup runs.

The sports science boys will be banging on his door demanding that they rest Michael Olise. He was out for nearly four months - that's the key point. They have to ease him back in.
The fact Eberechi Eze is injured as well is a huge loss for them. They've lost so much creativity and cleverness in those key positions, those attacking positions.
It's a real dilemma for Roy Hodgson.

Which Premier League defender is the most likely to get a goal?
Turns out it is Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool’s colossal captain, who has bagged more than any other since moving to Anfield in 2018-19.
Considering the 32-year-old missed the majority of the 2020-21 season after tearing his cruciate ligament against Everton, it is a remarkable record.
The Netherlands captain notched his first of the season to set Jurgen Klopp’s side en route to victory at Bramall Lane on Wednesday night.
"Virg is the best defender in the world," said Klopp on Friday.
"Did he have lesser good spells - yes. If you show someone who hasn’t then I would be really happy to meet him. Nobody was perfect. Virg in that shape is for us super, super important.”

Ten minutes to kick-off. Chants of 'Liverpool, Liverpool' ring round Selhurst Park, where it has stopped raining. Strap yourselves in, this could be a lot of fun.

There's an element of 'where do we go from here, where is this club going, are we just going to be a mid-table club for the rest of our history?'
Is that a bad thing? When you can go on good cup runs and things like that?
You look at some of the teams in the Championship and League One, they would bite your hand off to be in that position of a mid-table team who play exciting football at times.

A huge and timely boost for Liverpool to have Alisson back from injury.
The Reds' next two Premier League games after this are Anfield blockbusters against Manchester United on 17 December followed by Arsenal six days later.

Jurgen Klopp on how Roy Hodgson has inspired him: "Always when I meet him I ask him, ‘what are you still doing here?’ But, he looks happy. He was my inspiration but not inspiring me to work in the job that long. I don’t know how he’s doing that to be honest. I couldn’t respect him more. A great guy.”

It's 13 years since Roy Hodgson's Liverpool lost 2-1 against Blackpool at Anfield - one of nine defeats in 20 Premier League games during Hodgson's six months in charge of the Reds.
Fair to say Liverpool have come a long way since the days of Joe Cole, Christian Poulsen and Milan Jovanovic.
