Tottenham ended their recent slump in emphatic style as they convincingly overpowered a leg-weary Newcastle United.
Spurs had lost four of their previous five games and had not won since the victory at Crystal Palace on 27 October, but, once Destiny Udogie put them ahead from Son Heung-min's pass, there was only one winner.
And it was day of joy for striker Richarlison, who has struggled to find consistency and momentum in his Spurs career but was the spearhead here with a goal either side of half-time as Newcastle wilted in the face of some scintillating attacking play from Ange Postecoglou's side.
Richarlison had scored only five goals in his previous 48 appearances for Spurs but was on the mark from Son's perfect delivery, then effectively sealed all three points after controlling Pedro Porro's long pass.
Son got the goal his performance deserved, scoring from the spot after he had been hauled down by Newcastle keeper Martin Dubravka.
Joelinton's late strike provided a late consolation for Newcastle, who threatened only sporadically, with Miguel Almiron failing to convert a great chance when they trailed by a goal.
However, a heavy programme is taking its toll on manager Eddie Howe's injury-hit squad and now they must regroup and re-energise quickly before Wednesday night's decisive final Champions League group game at home to AC Milan.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on Sky Sports: "We had our moments but we gave everything without the resources to give more. It is difficult because we play on Wednesday, this is what we wanted. We hoped to have the squad to cope with that but we've had worse injuries than any team that I can remember.
"We have light at the end of the tunnel. Callum [Wilson] and [Sean] Longstaff are two huge players for us. We have to be positive, take the pain and come fighting.
"You have to critique like you would normally; we weren't in rhythm around the box and laced conviction. We didn't defend the goals well enough. The moments were there, we had chances. There is always more, you can push yourself even when you're tired."

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on BBC Match of the Day: "It was a tough game for us, I thought Tottenham played really well. It's a difficult moment for us. We probably expected it to come a little bit earlier than it has. I think the lads have been really good to sustain the results that we were having.
"The last two have been tough games. Not us at our best. Physically we looked fatigued today and there was not much we could do about it.
"We were 2-0 down, trying to go for the game, I thought we were very good in that period. Then we conceded the third goal and the game changes. But we just have to keep going. The more players we can get back, everyone is so important."
On Cristian Romero's tackle on Callum Wilson: "I was pleased to see Callum get up from that because it looked dangerous. But we can't use that as an excuse.
"We'll look at the game and try and analyse it properly to work out who to select on Wednesday. We're not aflush with options. That's why I have to compliment the players because they've done so well in this difficult period. These last few games have been tough, but I think the lads are giving everything."

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou on BBC Match of the Day: "I thought our performance was excellent in all facets. We looked really bright and clinical in our front third. We created a number of chances and kept them to minimal and the boys get the rewards for it.
"Richarlison was important for us at the start of the year too, when he wasn't fully fit. He's come back, that's 70 minutes he's played. I thought he did really well today, finishing off his stuff. But also, he worked really hard for the team. A good performance from him.
"Son Heung-min was hugely important early in the game. He did that and that allowed the other boys to feed off that. That's what you want from your leaders in these times.
"It doesn't take too much science to find that our dip came when we lost a few influential players. It hasn't been easy. I haven't been hard with the lads but I've not been compromising and allowing excuses.
"I've probably been too harsh on them. Newcastle are the only other club to have had the injuries that we've had. It's unrelenting in this league. You miss one or two key players, you're going to slip.
"We've gone through a tough time. Hopefully we're getting out the other side."

Kudos to the Geordie fans cheering on the team at the final whistle. All in all a decent watch. Well done Spurs by playing some brave football but I think they will take a good tanking from someone soon enough. I take it the Romero let off is the new level for what a player can do before a red?

Newcastle striker Callum Wilson speaking to Sky Sports: "The players that have been starting the last five or six games have had a lot asked of them. We are playing a top side; it felt like a game too many.
"When you're in games like today, the first goal can give you something to hold on to, to build momentum. With what has happened in the last two away games, maybe there is something in the back of our minds. There's no excuses, it wasn't good enough and we'll make sure we are ready for the midweek game.
"We couldn't find the breakthrough and when they get a second and third it is a long way back."
On an altercation with Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario after the final whistle: "There is a way to win. I said my piece, we're grown men, we move on."

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou speaking to Sky Sports: "I can't fault the lads. They put in a massive effort today. We were brighter in the front third, I thought Sonny [Son Heung-min] was excellent and that sort of thing feeds off to the other guys.
"You rely on your leaders to take initiative; we could have had more goals but our attacking play was as good as it has been for a while. We are getting players back; you can see Newcastle are running on fumes. We've gone through that and hopefully we are coming out the other side.
"Both boxes we were a lot better; having [Cristian] Romero back helped with that. We have had to battle away and come January we'll get players back. The Premier League is unrelenting; the other teams aren't going to feel sorry for you."

A big win for Everton against Chelsea earlier today and they are now four points clear of the bottom three.
The Toffees would be 10th if they hadn't had 10 points wiped off their total.

As a Spurs fan who now lives in the North East, work will be relatively easier over the next couple of Days. In Big Ange we trust.

Tottenham captain Son Heung-min on Sky Sports: "When you're winning you enjoy it more. To bounce back like that is very important. We don't want to make any more mistakes like we have done. I thought today was fantastic. I hope we can continue to perform like this and stay humble.
"We said we had to be more ruthless. We were ruthless today and were creating chances. We did that fantastic job. To beat Newcastle 4-1 is not easy. They are a very strong side, so credit all the players and fans.
"We are playing in the Premier League, we have to demand each other more and more. It's never enough. Those amazing teams always keep going. It should be a habit for us.
"If we continue to be strong like this, we will be a very good side."
On taking his penalty: "Shall we call Harry [Kane] back? I practiced all the time, even when Harry was here. And I learned a lot from him."

This is how it stands at the top of the league. Four points separating the top four, with Tottenham three points further back in fifth.

Hendrix: Ladies and gentleman. This, THIS is why, the premier league is the best league in the world. There is no competition. Any team can win any match. By extreme margins. Every gameweek is a different story. Love to see it

Some unpleasantness at the end between Newcastle striker Callum Wilson and Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. Spurs defender Pedro Porro very much wants to get involved, before being pushed away by his team-mates.

Newcastle poor today, but potentially a win away from the CL last 16, an upcoming cup quarter final and still more than in contention for European qualification next year. All with 10 (TEN) first team players out. If that's our level Martin we will take it!
Tom, Newcastle
We’ll be back, this is a great team when fit. Eddie still has our faith, and it’s a long season to go. Rather be here than in the relegation battle…

Joelinton
Tottenham mess around with it near their own penalty area, lose it and Callum Wilson passes to Joelinton and he shoots into the bottom corner for a consolation.
