Love Howe and the style of play he has created, but playing the same team game after game has caught up with Newcastle, they're running on empty, desperately need some fresh legs back asap!

This isn't even Postecoglou's team yet. They are a joy to watch.

Spurs two up at the break, with Son Heung-min setting up both goals.

He's twice taken on and beaten Kieran Trippier, with Destiny Udogie converting the first of the following crosses and Richarlison the second.

Ash: So when does Trippier start getting the same defensive ability criticism as Trent?

J: I'll be honest. Trent Alexander-Arnold would be crucified if he made the errors Trippier is making and gets away with.

Kieran Trippier has been an outstanding figure since signing for Newcastle United but he's having a bad week. He was involved in all three Everton goals in their defeat on Thursday and he allowed Son Heung-min to skip around him far too easily there.

Long way back for Newcastle here.

  7. Postpublished at 17:14 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2023

    Tottenham 2-0 Newcastle

Spurs almost get number three. Son Heung-min, the standout player of the first half runs with the ball 40 yards at the heart of the Newcastle defence.

He plays it wide left to Dejan Kulusevski, the cross then nicks up off Lewis Miley and a diving Richarlison just can't get his head on it for what would have been a third in the first half.

Newcastle need to regroup and need half-time to come.

Speak to anyone that works with or for Spurs and they love Ange. The way he’s lifted the place. It goes beyond immediate results. Got to stick with him.

Spurs can sniff more goals here. Brennan Johnson collects it after Pape Matar Sarr won possession, and produced an angled strike with it clipping the outside of the post.

Straight after, Dejan Kulusevski kicks a shot into the ground and it bounces up into the hands of a diving Martin Dubravka.

I don’t think Spurs could have asked for a better game given recent form than a very jaded and out of form Newcastle team with more than one eye on Wednesday - it’s just a matter of how many Spurs want…

So many players are so delighted for Richarlison.

The similarities to the first goal are scary. We know why Son is playing on the left wing.

    Richarlison

Superb once more from Spurs captain Son Heung-min. Just like the first goal, he gets the ball on the left, takes on and beats Kieran Trippier, pulls it back from the byeline and this time Richarlison is there to sweep the left-footed finish away at the near post.

Newcastle should do better after Brennan Johnson loses possession 35 yards from his own goal. Alexander Isak gives it to Anthony Gordon, who spins and plays in Miguel Almiron, whose shot lacks the power to properly test Guglielmo Vicario.

It should be two. Brennan Johnson causes chaos on the right. Richarlison and Son Heung-min are queing up at the back post, but instead Pape Matar Sarr gets there first and screws a horrible side-footer wide of the post.

Spurs would surely have scored again if it had fallen to Richarlison or Son.

Spurs had been dominating possession without creating too many chances but that was so clinical. Destiny Udogie could not fail to convert Son Heung-min's cross.

Now Spurs. Can you hold a lead?
