There were a few moments in the box where Liverpool could've maybe scored goals. There were half chances and clear chances too. Sometimes the chances I felt fell to the wrong people.

Liverpool did struggle to break Manchester United down and it became a little bit predictable at times as the game went on.

When they went to the 4-2-2, it became more open. Jurgen would've been disappointed with the lack of control at that point. Those moments were when United had clear chances and they looked threatening.

What Liverpool should've done was maybe stay with the 4-3-3 and then try to break United down.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Sky Sports, on how his side dealt with talk it would be a one-sided home win: "I think you overestimate your influence - we couldn't be bothered what you say. It has nothing to do with what happens, we knew it would be difficult.

"What everyone says only helps United. Why should we listen to that? They were fired up and I cant remember a game where they turn up with a white flag - it doesn't happen.

"We tried everything and the numbers we created - in terms of shots - is crazy. But with that about of shots they should be a few more on target. That was our fault today and we go from here."

  3. 'The 7-0 was not as dominant as this'published at 18:53 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2023

    FT: Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Sky Sports, on his side's performance: "I saw a lot of good things, the one thing I don't like is the result. We should have scored.

"We were in a rush in moments but I liked a lot the intensity of the game and the start to the game. Everyone saw what we wanted, our counter-pressing was good as a group and we didn't let them out.

"I can't remember such a dominant performance against Man Utd - even the 7-0 they were more in the game. Now it's 0-0 they probably feel slightly better than us. But we take the point and keep going.

"It was the type of game I expected. If we play like this it is difficult for the opposite team to get out of their own half and the way United defending was clean with a lot of passion.

"If you score it changes the dynamic of the game and they open up a bit and take more risk. But nothing changed, they threw everything in and it's a 0-0."

Boring game so boring stat. The last 0 is gone. All teams have now won, drawn and lost at least one game in the premier league this season.

    Tom, London

    Very good Tom, very good.

Manchester United earn their first draw in the league this season to make this stat true...

Manchester United captain Scott McTominay, speaking to Sky Sports: "It's always a hot start here and we couldn't forget about last year, but the boys did everything they could have.

"We've got a lot of young players and they conducted themselves well. I'm proud to lead them out, it's just a shame we couldn't win.

On being given the armband having been linked with a move away in the summer: "It's the biggest honour of my career to captain this football club. I'm thankful to be in this position.

"In football there is always things that can happen and speculation but I have a clear mind and always do my best for the club on the pitch and with no excuses.

"I don't care what anyone else think or says about me. I just want to play well for this club and that's final."

Got to be honest. If they took a point off each team for this rubbish I wouldn’t complain.

    Truly awful game!

Everybody expected Manchester United to lose this game. They've put a performance together where they've managed to defend very well.

They'll be delighted going home with a point.

  8. 'Pleased not to lose but not happy we didn't win'published at 18:42 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2023

    FT: Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United captain Scott McTominay, speaking to Sky Sports: "For a start we have a number of injuries which doesn't help the squad or help the rhythm of playing a regular team, but we knew it would be tough today.

"We had to stay calm and stick together and we had moments in the game where we had chances and could have hurt them.

"We're disappointed we couldn't make it more of a game and create more opportunities. The boys will be pleased not to lose but also definitely not happy we didn't win."

  9. 'Huge relief for Ten Hag'published at 18:40 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2023

    FT: Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

    Gary Neville
Former Manchester United defender on Sky Sports

It'll be a huge relief to Erik Ten Hag because it's been a horrible week, with what happened against Bournemouth, going out of the Champions League with an inept performance against Bayern Munich.

Today, there was no doubt the clouds were circling and there was no Manchester United fan, including myself, that thought United would come out of here alive. Liverpool have been poor, well below par in this game. Their final third play was awful.

Well done to them for showing a little bit of fight. To get a point here and a clean sheet is an unexpected result.

  10. 'Man Utd just matched Liverpool'published at 18:37 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2023

Liverpool had a couple of half chances, and there must have been four or five blocked shots from the edge of the box which white shirts launched themselves at.

Nunez possibly could have done better on a couple of ocassions too.

Everyone in a red shirt was trying to do something right, but Manchester United just matched them.

Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk, speaking to Sky Sports on if he was feeling frustrated: "100%. If you see how we played the game, we had most of the ball and created some opportunities. There was only one team trying to win the game.

"We want to win every game of course and that is why it is frustrating. Sometimes we shot too easy and could have passed on the overlap. The right decision was sometimes lacking.

"We carry on of course but it is frustrating because we were superior in all aspects. In the end they are buzzing with a point and we are disappointed with a point.

"Obviously they are not in the best phase. Coming here you are wary of the threat we have. We should have won it today. We have to learn from certain situations and I know we will.

"Last year we didn't come in with a good feeling towards the Manchester United game but we won the game convincingly, but last year doesn't count now."

  12. 'Most Man Utd fans will take this'published at 18:34 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2023

    FT: Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

    Dion Dublin
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

These United fans are delighted with a point.

You've got to realise where you are and what you're playing. I believe that most Man Utd fans will take this, just not for the whole season because it was pretty negative.

To come here and get this is very good. They have to accept that is where they are at the moment.

It's got them what they needed. They were set up perfectly to get a point away at one of the hardest paces in the world to get a point.

You can see the Liverpool fans with their cheeks puffed out thinking they should have done better. The United fans are clapping to say well done at a difficult place to go.

Man Utd didn't really do anything going forward but the game plan was to stay in the game, defend well, be organised and get something. Well done Mr Ten Hag!

Frustration for Liverpool as their 100% record at home this season comes to an end.

Not a game that will live long in the memory but Manchester United will be very pleased to have held out for a point.

It's a great chance but Gakpo has to hit the target, surely?

That's pretty weak for me. He's better than that, he gets it all wrong with his timing.
