Szoboszlai and Endo need to come off, both are being so sloppy in possession.

    Mike

Predictable. That's the perfect word to describe Liverpool's attack today.

    Edwin, Kenya

From a United perspective, holding out this long is our best defensive performance in ages. Dull as ditch water mind you but then, at this point, I'll take anything that isn't a thrashing.

Paul: This is the sort of game we needed Jota back for. Intelligent and a natural goalscorer.

Got to give United some credit they've made life very frustrating for Liverpool

    Mark, Dublin

This game has a 1-0 smash-and-grab United win written all over it

Mohamed Salah cuts in from the right and curls a shot towards goal that Andre Onana acrobatically pushes away.

The lull has been long but the excitement is cranking up a bit now.

Rachel: Did both teams have their Christmas parties last night?

Alison: I am so sick of seeing Antony do the same thing each time he plays. So predictable.

Theo: Give the fans their money back… it’s actually been embarrassing from both sets of players

Jonny Evans throws himself in front of Cody Gakpo's shot and then Manchester United break, Antony can't find Alejandro Garnacho on the edge of the Liverpool box but this game is opening up finally.

Good play from United. I'm thinking to myself can he go low but Allison goes big.

It's the best chance we've had all game.

I couldn't agree more about United's wingers. Dalot and Shaw are both good attacking full backs and crossers, but are wasted in a team where there has been no intention of getting to the line and crossing it for about a decade, despite having quality big centre forwards like Lukaku, Ibrahimovic, Cavani and Ronaldo. The last proper wide player we had was Antonio Valencia. We used to get frustrated at his extreme one-footedness, but at least he was effective. But even he got turned into a full back in the end. The current United team just don't have the option of getting out wide and crossing it.

  9. GREAT SAVE!published at 69 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

    Huge chance for Rasmus Højlund!

A nice move by Manchester United as Scott McTominay and Højlund play a one-two, releasing the latter but his shot is denied by Alisson at his near post.

Manchester United's best chance by far.

  10. CLOSE!published at 66 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

    Maybe that's the spark!

Trent Alexander-Arnold bends a shot from just outside the box and it whizzes just wide of the post.

So close and Alexander-Arnold knows it as he raises his hands into the air to urge the crowd to raise the noise.

This game surely has to spark soon?

Manchester United have the opportunity to break but Antony can't find Scott McTominay with his pass.

I think Klopp has realised that Trent is the man that's going to open the door in the midfield area.

He just roams as in there and makes things happen. He's doing everything at the moment.

Dropping Rashford might be a good thing you know. Bring him on. This game could be for him. Liverpool will run away with it soon.

I can't see Gravenberch limping so it must be something internal that he's not happy with.

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 61 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

Liverpool make a double change as Joe Gomez and Cody Gakpo come on. Ryan Gravenberch is struggling so he makes way, as does Dominik Szoboszlai.

Gomez to right back and Trent Alexander-Arnold into midfield?

Liverpool have played 40 passes in the final third so far in the second half; Manchester United have played just four passes in the final third so far this half.

Liverpool fans were roaring with expectation at the start of this game but you can sense the frustration now.

The game has lacked quality from both sides.

Feel sorry for Amrabat. Whoever in the United hierarchy has looked at him and thought he was a good idea is so wide of the mark. He excelled in a national tournament where the pace of the game is so much slower. In a fast paced league, he looks way way behind the game

    Jack

A lot has been said about Liverpool's rebooted midfield. But the truth is it's the likes of Trent, Elliot and Salah that have been giving them the slightest of edges to get results over the line. They don't have a killer instinct and recent weeks have papered over this fact.

    Mekaeal

Man U just need to really fight. Look at Spurs against Nottingham in Friday. Not pretty. Systems football doesn't always work but the will to compete saw them grind a result. This is the toughest league in the world. Man U need to acknowledge that.

Just seeing the replay and it wasn't a shot but an excellent last-ditch challenge by Trent Alexander-Arnold to prod the ball to his goalkeeper. Crucial defending.

  20. Postpublished at 56 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

Hang on, Manchester United are in here as Alejandro Garnacho gets in behind on the left. He gets into the box but Trent Alexander-Arnold is quick to close him down and in the end the shot lacks power to beat Alisson.
