  1. 'It wasn't unlucky, we chucked it'published at 17:28 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

FT: Sheffield United 2-3 Luton Town

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder speaking to BBC Sport: "We chucked it away. We got our noses in front. We don't go out and stop a cross. We are sat on the six yard line and things like that are going to happen if you sit that deep. It is the defending attitude and shape that has cost us.

"It will look a bit unlucky but it isn't unlucky, it is us and we chucked it.

"We had control of the game. We have to control our emotion as well. We got back into the game and then we just have to make decisions. It should have been 3-1 and them chucking players forwards.

"The game is hard enough for Sheffield United in the Premier League. It is hard enough at this level where games can easily be turned on the head and they have not had to work that hard to turn it around from 2-1 down to 3-2 up.

"We were not great in the first half. We were passive and they were aggressive. Their first goal was another disappointing one. We came in and a lot of people perhaps thought it was a deserved scoreline. We changed it around at half time and we got that reaction and we deserved to be ahead, we were the ones searching for the next goal.

"It is the mindset and when you are in this position where points are difficult to come by you want to protect, but it is not a time to protect."

  2. 'Iraola is a top manager'published at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    FT: Bournemouth 3-0 Fulham

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott to BBC MOTD on his assist for Justin Kluivert’s goal: “I got the ball and it was around the halfway line. It kept opening up for me, I was getting closer to goal and my shooting is not the best so I thought to lay if off to the better finishers, so luckily Justin scored.

“I’m not going to be shooting from ridiculous angles and Justin is a much better finisher than me so I was always going to lay the ball off."

On not letting Fulham get back into the game: “It’s confidence. As soon as you go one goal up the confidence starts pumping. They’re a top side, scoring 5-0 back-to-back. They are a tough team and they do score goals when you give them chances. Luckily we defended well and took our chances."

On returning after injury: “I wanted to prove I am ready to be back in the starting eleven. Hopefully I played my part and played quite well and hopefully can start against Tottenham."

On Andoni Iraola's impact: “A lot of what we do in training is huge. The confidence - he gives that to very player. The way he speaks to us, the way he has us training after games. The confidence throughout the team comes from the top. He is a top manager."

It's one of a few decisions Jurgen Klopp had to make for his side, with Joe Gomez also returning at left-back, filling in for injured duo Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas.

On Andros Townsend and Ross Barkley: "The way they've come into the group... They're really humble and the lads have taken to them right away."

With two goals and four assists, no current top-flight player has been involved in more goals on Boxing Day than Salah.

However, he has failed to score or assist in his previous five games against Burnley.

It's his longest run without a goal involvement against an opponent in the Premier League.

Talk about extraordinary matches. The alarm bells will be ringing at Bramall Lane after Sheffield United somehow managed to throw it all away after leading 2-1 with less than 15 minutes to go.

Incredibly, Luton go away with all three points despite not having a shot after the 67th minute.

Chris Wilder does not have long to pick his players up before they go to Manchester City on Saturday.

After the trauma of captain Tom Lockyer suffering a cardiac arrest on the pitch at Bournemouth, Luton have shown incredible spirit to secure six points which could go a long way to securing their future in the Premier League.

Burnley need to stay in the game as long as they can. That’s really important because Liverpool can blow them away very quickly.

The longer it goes on, Liverpool might have a few doubts in their head and it will get the home crowd going.

Liverpool have to get back to the top of the league and put all the pressure on Arsenal.

FT: Sheffield United 2-3 Luton Town

    Luton Town

Luton winger Andros Townsend to Amazon Prime: "Honestly I can't. It was a rollercoaster of emotions. We were 2-1 down and then you think about what that means to the table. Carlton Morris comes on and we score two goals.

"It's a crazy day. I'm delighted we came out on the winning side. We had 24 hours less than Sheffield United to prepare and I think we deserved it.

"Tactically we were better in the first 30 minutes. They dropped in a midfielder and it disrupted our press. Goals change games and we got. That was enough today.

"We work tirelessly on set-pieces. We were ahead against Liverpool and Arsenal and we didn't get three points in any of those games. It's about time we got some luck."

On picking up back-to-back wins: "It's sensational. Whether you're a top side or not, it's so hard to do in the Premier League."

On facing Chelsea next: "We've got enough in the dressing room and I think the outside are starting to realise that. At [Kenilworth Road] we can beat anyone and the boys in the dressing room believe that."

"It feels like the last game happened weeks ago now. For us, it's been total focus on Liverpool. It's a different challenge, a different beast we are facing. But the boys believe we can make something happen.

"They've been pretty good and we're having some tough times. That's why we're fighting for survival and they're fighting for the league. That's the squads we have.

"But you always have to believe. And at home our fans can gives us a push.

"On Boxing Day anything can happen. The key for us is we've been performing very well. We just have to see what happens.

"Liverpool, in terms of quality, are as good as the team that won it a few years ago."

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on Amazon Prime: "It's a tough period, you wake up and think about the next opponent.

"We have to be ready, we played a really good game a few days ago. If we can play a similar game we will be a difficult opponent.

"It's the fourth game in 10 days, we have to make changes. This is the first time where we have a bench where we can make five changes and the team doesn't get too young too quickly.

"We try to get fresh legs in. We'll need that. Burnley is a good football playing side.

"We have to play football as well. We have to play to the maximum. The intensity levels have been top.

"We are second in the table, we are in a better position than anyone expected us to be.

Liverpool have won seven of their eight Premier League games at Turf Moor, which is their highest away win rate (88%) against any side they've faced at least five times in the competition.

They have also found the net in each of their last 13 away games, scoring 30 goals in the process, and have won their past six Boxing Day matches since a 2-1 defeat at Manchester City in 2013.

It's certainly a tough match on paper for Vincent Kompany's side, who have struggled to perform at home this season.

They have lost eight of their nine Premier League matches at Turf Moor and have picked up five more points on the road.

But can Burnley disrupt Liverpool's title challenge and give themselves a huge boost in the relegation battle?
