    FT: Newcastle 1-3 Nottingham Forest

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe spoke to BBC Sport earlier after his side suffered a 3-1 defeat by Nottingham Forest:

"It was a combination of a lot of things. I thought the first-half performance was pretty good, we scored and had chances but the second half was difficult.

"We didn’t play very well, they were a transition threat and we got punished.

"We were close to making it 2-0 and we get caught, they score and the second half is probably a reflection of that moment.

"They were always in the game. They had pace and physicality and that was difficult but normally we take pride in defending those situations better and that wasn’t there.

"I’m already analysing what has happened today and we will come back and improve. The big thing for us is that we haven’t been able to train in a long period of time and hopefully now we’ll get some training-ground time."

  2. Title challengers v relegation battlerspublished at 17:05 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Burnley v Liverpool (17:30 GMT)

    Shamoon Hafez
    BBC Sport at Turf Moor

"Where do we go on the 26th?" asked Jurgen Klopp. "Oh, a drive to Burnley. A great place to celebrate Christmas!"

And here we are at Turf Moor on Boxing Day as Liverpool aim to go top of the tree this evening.

The Reds have lost only one Premier League this season and with perennial winners Manchester City lagging, they are right in the mix for a title challenge this term.

They come up against a Burnley side that were impressive in a 2-0 win at Fulham at the weekend, but have won only one of their nine league games at home so far.

Nottingham Forest's win against Newcastle earlier today has not helped matters, leaving the Clarets in 19th place and five points adrift of safety as they aim to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

  3. 'Fulham look badly short on creativity'published at 17:03 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    FT: Bournemouth 3-0 Fulham

    Chris Wise
BBC Radio 5 Live commentator at Vitality Stadium

Three games without a goal for Fulham. And remember, they’d won back to back matches 5-0 before that.

They look badly short on creativity and options without Raul Jimenez and Willian.

  4. 'A real cracker in the end!'published at 17:02 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    FT: Sheff Utd 2-3 Luton

    Paul Robinson
Former Tottenham and England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's been a real cracker in the end hasn't it!

It was a poor first half, lacked quality. Both teams were direct and neither compromised their style, the most direct game I've ever watched.

However for entertainment value it has been fantastic.

Luton have been admirable, showed resilience after losing the lead to come back and win it. They will take so much confidence going forward.

Thanks guys, excellent shift. Go get your leftover turkey...

Lots to play for. It's still tight as anything in the title race but Liverpool know victory tonight will send them top of the table.

Aston Villa travel to Manchester United later and can stay right on their tails, while Manchester City go to Everton tomorrow.

Arsenal and Tottenham are both in action on Thursday so can Liverpool set the pace after back-to-back league draws?

Burnley have work to do to get out of the relegation zone and are currently five points adrift of safety with an inferior goal difference.

Wins for Nottingham Forest and Luton Town today only adds pressure.

    Dion Dublin
Former England striker on Final Score

Dominic Solanke has hit a purple patch. The ball is just going into the back of the net, whether it’s off his knee, off his shoulders.

You know you are doing OK when defenders are looking for you. The defenders now are thinking 'respect', they are giving him a yard.

He's got his head down. We all know what he can do - now he is doing it.

Bournemouth, with the second smallest ground in the Premier League, are now 10th in the table and above a Chelsea side that have spent more than £1bn in transfer fees since May 2022.

What a job Andoni Iraola is doing at Vitality Stadium.

    Sheff Utd 2-3 Luton

    Paul Robinson
Former Tottenham and England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Everyone has been put into the Luton final third, Ahmedhodzic and Foderingham have acted as quarter backs for Sheffield United for the last ten minutes.

The only thing wanting this game to end is the match ball, it will have altitude sickness from the long ball after long ball attack from the home side.

  14. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:55 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

Goals from Justin Kluivert, Dominic Solanke and Luis Sinisterra give Bournemouth a well-deserved three points against a poor Fulham.

For only the second time in their history, it is going to be four top-flight wins in a row for Bournemouth.

  16. Postpublished at 16:53 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Sheff Utd 2-3 Luton

Nottingham Forest's win at Newcastle earlier means Luton cannot climb out of the bottom three today but if they hold on they are just one point from safety.

It would be a huge win, but Sheffield United are doing all the attacking at the moment.

  17. goal

GOAL - Bournemouth 3-0 Fulhampublished at 90+3 mins

    Luis Sinisterra

That ends any doubt. Luis Sinisterra gets the ball close to the left touchline and runs square until he shoots through a crowded penalty area with a gorgeous curling effort from 25 yards.

    Fine goal.

  18. 'Bournemouth make themselves so hard to play against'published at 16:51 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Bournemouth 2-0 Fulham

    Francis Benali
Former Southampton defender on BBC Radio 5 live

Bournemouth just know how to win games at the moment, they make themselves so hard to play against, just know how to stay compact.

Credit to the two central defenders today, there has been a lot of talk about Dominic Solanke of late, but they have been equally as important. So solid at the back, they marshall that back line so well, another clean sheet on the cards too.

Luton haven't had a shot on goal since before Sheffield United scored their second goal, yet they are leading 3-2.

We're into the first of eight minutes added on.

  20. 'Luton have shown so much will and desire'published at 16:49 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

Former Tottenham and England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think now as we enter the last few minutes we're going to see Sheffield United go long.

Credit to Luton today, the resolve and effort that the group of players have shown has been excelllent. The will, the desire that has been on show has been outstanding.
