    On Ben Davies' header...

He's got to do more. Once you get up there Ben Davies you've got to hit the target, it's a great opportunity.

Lucas Digne has a lovely left foot on him. He whips a free-kick from 25 yards up and over the spurs wall. Guglielmo Vicario does excellently to scamper across his line and push it wide for a corner.

The set-piece falls to Ollie Watkins but he glances a header just wide by the narrowest of margins.

Now people will see what I have been saying, Ange is not fit for this league. His style of play just doesn’t cut it.

    Ismael

This is the same Postecoglou, who has been named manager of the month three times already this season, Ismael.

  4. CLOSE!published at 66 mins

    Tottenham 1-2 Aston Villa

Two Spurs chances inside a minute. Pedro Porro fires a shot down into the ground with Emiliano Martinez pushing the ball around the post.

The resulting corner falls to Ben Davies, who heads just over the top from inside a crowded penalty area.

  5. Postpublished at 65 mins

    Tottenham 1-2 Aston Villa

Lucas Digne and Dejan Kulusevski go for a 50-50 ball on the edge of the penalty area, maybe just inside. It is checked by the video assistant referee, who feels no need to change on-field ref Robert Jones' original decision of no Tottenham penalty.

  6. 'Brilliant goal from Watkins'published at 64 mins

    Tottenham 1-2 Aston Villa

    Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

If he takes another touch it gets blocked but as soon as he takes that first touch he gets the shot away and it beats the defender, it beats Guglielmo Vicario.

    Brilliant goal from Ollie Watkins.

  7. Team news - Teenager Mainoo starts for Man Utdpublished at 15:32 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2023
    Breaking

Everton v Man Utd (16:30 GMT)

    Shamoon Hafez
    BBC Sport at Goodison Park

    Everton

Everton make one change from the side that beat Crystal Palace before the international break and it is an enforced one.

Midfielder Amadou Onana has not recovered from a calf injury so Idrissa Gueye starts.

Everton XI: Pickford, Young, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko, Harrison, Garner, Gueye, McNeil, Doucoure, Calvert-Lewin.

    Man Utd

Manchester United make three changes to the side that edged past Luton last time out.

Teenage midfielder Kobbie Mainoo makes his first Premier League start, with left-back Luke Shaw also returning following a long spell out through injury.

Rasmus Hojlund fails to recover from hamstring injury, so Anthony Martial comes in up front.

Man Utd: Onana, Dalot, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw, McTominay, Mainoo, Rashford, Fernandes, Garnacho, Martial.

  8. goal

GOAL - Tottenham 1-2 Aston Villapublished at 61 mins

    Ollie Watkins

Villa were one down, now they're two-one up. It is a lovely passing move between Youri Tielemans and Ollie Watkins, who then takes one touch to set himself, before drilling the ball low and hard past Guglielmo Vicario. Fine goal.

    Tottenham 1-1 Aston Villa

John McGinn with a snap shot from 40 yards out with the goal unguarded after Guglielmo Vicario had gone walkabout and produced a diving header well outside the penalty area.

But McGinn's effort is well wide, much to Vicario's relief. McGinn playing a vital role for Villa. Tottenham need to watch him.

  10. DISALLOWED GOAL - Son Heung-minpublished at 57 mins

    Tottenham 1-1 Aston Villa

Brennan Johnson, unselfishly, squares the ball to Son Heung-min, who slides the ball into the net. But it doesn't matter as Johnson was clearly offside when collecting the original pass.

  11. 'If Tottenham win it'll be down to that front three'published at 15:25 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2023

    Tottenham 1-1 Aston Villa

    Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

On Johnson not getting on the end of a cross...

It was a great backheel from Son, Brennan Johnson just couldn't get up with play. It's a great ball from Dejan Kulusevski.

If Tottenham are going to win the game it will be down to that front three.

  12. Postpublished at 56 mins

    Tottenham 1-1 Aston Villa

John McGinn is starting to have more of an impact. He leads another Villa charge through the heart of the Tottenham defence and plays it wide left to Ollie Watkins.

But the England striker loses his footing just as he was about to either cross or shoot at goal.

  13. Postpublished at 54 mins

    Tottenham 1-1 Aston Villa

Just like the first half, one team has a chance, then the other team does likewise. This time a sliding Brennan Johnson just can't get a touch on an inviting cross as Villa survive. Any touch and that would've been a goal.

Son Heung-min then shoots low at Emiliano Martinez. There are definitely more goals in this one.

  14. HITS THE WOODWORK - Leon Bailey (Aston Villa)published at 50 mins

    Tottenham 1-1 Aston Villa

Leon Bailey nearly gets a goal within five minutes of his introduction. It is a lovely raking pass from left to right from John McGinn and Leon Bailey leads a two-on-two breakaway.

Bailey looks like he has taken a bit too long, but cuts inside and curls at goal. Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario gets down to the shot, but can only get a hand to it and pushes it against the post and gets lucky with it rebounding straight to him.

  15. Postpublished at 49 mins

    Tottenham 1-1 Aston Villa

Giovani lo Celso has one deflected goal to his name and tries his luck again from range, but the ball bounces off a Villa player and away behind for a corner.

That one comes to nothing apart from another corner. Son Heung-min then heads from Dejan Kulusevski's cross but it is over the top.

  16. 'Maybe he's seen something we haven't seen'published at 15:16 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2023

    Tottenham 1-1 Aston Villa

    Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

I'm surprised about the Moussa Diaby one [substitution], I still thought maybe give him another 15/20 minutes but maybe he's seen something we haven't seen and he wants to bring Leon Bailey on. He's come on to good effect at times this season.

  17. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 15:13 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2023

    Tottenham 1-1 Aston Villa

A couple of changes from Unai Emery. Matty Cash, who was on a booking, is off as is Moussa Diaby, with Youri Tielemans and Leon Bailey the pair to come on.

    And we're back under way.

  18. 'You think they're going to hold on'published at 15:12 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2023

    HT: Tottenham 1-1 Aston Villa

    Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Tottenham have been the better team but Aston Villa had a spell in the first half where they started well and should probably have scored a couple of goals but obviously Giovani Lo Celso get the goal which Tottenham thoroughly deserved.

You think they're going to hold on but the cross from Douglas Luiz is outstanding from where he is, to deliver that ball on the money to Pau Torres is outstanding, fantastic header.

@Anon 22:50 “for a split second, his toe is 2 inches ahead of the defender and he’s given off”. So he’s offside then!

    Nathan, Australia

Anyone looked into injury rates after lengthy VAR decisions? Might just be a bitter Spurs fan but that's three major injuries for us within a few minutes of a big wait for VAR. Surely need to find a way for offside checks to go on in the background.

Bryan Robson and Terry VenablesImage source, Getty Images

Bryan Robson, who coached alongside Terry Venables with England and Middlesbrough, said: “Terry was a brilliant coach to work with and I learned so much from him. He was very good tactically, but also a great motivator and communicator.

“I first worked with him as a player when he was coaching with England Under-21s under Dave Sexton and they were both a great support to me when I broke my leg in my early years at West Brom.

“My international playing career had come to an end by the time he took over as England manager but he brought me back as a coach and that was a brilliant experience working with him and Don Howe at Euro 96 when we got to the semi-finals.”

“Later, when I was Middlesbrough manager, we were going through a tough period and I wanted to bring in a top coach, so I asked Terry and we made a great partnership.

“Everyone who worked with Terry will always remember him as someone who lived life with a smile on his face.”
