  1. 'A true gentleman and a coach ahead of his time'published at 15:05 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2023

Some more tributes to Terry Venables now from the footballing world...

Former England manager Steve McClaren, who brought Venables back into the England set-up as his assistant when appointed England manager in 2006, said: "Terry was a true gentleman and a coach always ahead of his time.

"Working with him for England was a pleasure and an education, and he helped me enormously to deal with the pressures around the job.

“His wit, smile and positive attitude will be sadly missed. RIP Terry.”

Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Once Douglas Luiz whips it in, I just don't like the marking and he gets a free run. Once he gets into there it's a great header. He missed an easier one earlier but that's a fantastic header. Great ball in from Luiz and a great header.

  3. HALF-TIMEpublished at 14:58 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2023

    Tottenham 1-1 Aston Villa

You will struggle to see a more entertaining 45 minutes. A goal apiece at the break. Tottenham, who had earlier hit the post through Dejan Kulusevski, scored through Giovani lo Celso's first goal of the season.

Ollie Watkins thought he had scored an instant equaliser, but VAR said no.

But Villa did make it 1-1 in the seventh added minute with Pau Torres heading in from Douglas Luiz's free-kick.

This could end up anything. One-one and hugely enjoyable.

VAR are happy that there was nothing wrong with that goal and Aston Villa have their equaliser.

There are a whole host of players, pretty much in a line when that free-kick was taken. Time for the lines to come out in the VAR booth.

GOAL - Tottenham 1-1 Aston Villapublished at 14:53 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2023

    Pau Torres

Aston Villa have the ball in the net in the seventh minute of added time. Pau Torres heads in from Douglas Luiz's free-kick from deep.

But we will have a VAR check.

  7. Villa changes at half-time?published at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2023

    Tottenham 1-0 Aston Villa

    Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Unai Emery might make a few changes [at half-time] just because Matty Cash is probably on his last warning with a yellow card and he might change that, put someone attacking on.

The problem with VAR on offsides is it's trying to be more precise than a human can ever be. Ollie Watkins can see along the line and is keeping himself level. For a split second his toe is two inches ahead of the defender and he's given off. Another perfectly good goal disallowed by a camera.

These three-minute decisions would look quite appropriate if it ended up being the difference between relegation or a title win, so be careful what you wish for.

We're into six minutes of injury time at the end of the first half. As Pedro Porro needs treatment after a strong challenge from Boubacar Kamara, who made a genuine attempt to get the ball in a 50-50.

Spurs really don't need another injury.

  11. 'Magnificent football'published at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2023

    Tottenham 1-0 Aston Villa

It would have been a great goal, the football was magnificent to be fair and the finish is brilliant but he's offside.

  12. DISALLOWED GOAL - Son Heung-minpublished at 42 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Aston Villa

Son Heung-min races on to a ball through, has the pace to stay clear of the Villa defenders and curls a lovely finish past Emiliano Martinez.

But the celebrations are instantly stopped by the assistant's flag for offside. An easy one for VAR to confirm as the South Korean had gone just a bit too early as he missed out on what would've been his ninth Premier League goal of the season.

Injuries are becoming relentless at Spurs. It’s becoming disheartening to an extent that each injury is now feeling like a kick in teeth. So much hope this season, but it feels like injuries are derailing it.

Matty Cash is playing a risky game. He was booked for the foul on Rodrigo Bentancur, which saw the Uruguayan go off injured. And Cash has just given Destiny Udogie a shove.

No second yellow for Cash. However, team-mate John McGinn does then get a booking for a separate foul.

  15. 'Tottenham have been outstanding'published at 38 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Aston Villa

    Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Aston Villa are getting played around and Tottenham have been outstanding in this first half.

Villa have to stay in the game until half-time and there will be a lot of added time.

  16. YELLOW CARDpublished at 37 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Aston Villa

Boubacar Kamara gets a yellow for Aston Villa, tripping up Giovani lo Celso when the goalscorer was looking to storm up field.

That's a costly yellow too for the Villa man as that's his fifth of the season, meaning he will now miss the away match at Bournemouth on Sunday, 3 December.

You have to feel for Digne and anybody who has him in their fantasy football team - two perfect deliveries, one headed wide, the other leading to a marginal offside. Great crosser of the ball.

  18. CLOSE!published at 34 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Aston Villa

Dejan Kulusevski is proving a real handful for the Villa defence. He's already curled one shot against the upright and again has the skill to jink inside on to his left foot and send an effort goalwards.

Again it bends, and Emiliano Martinez in the away goal is panicking, but the ball flies just wide of goal. Great effort.

  19. 'Disconsolate figure'published at 14:36 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2023

    Tottenham 1-0 Aston Villa

    Alistair Bruce-Ball
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live

The way he [Rodrigo Bentancur] started the game today, he looked like he was picking up where he'd left off and he's an absolute disconsolate figure as he comes hobbling off the pitch here.
