The players won't need much of a talking to today in regards to motivation they'll be out there it's all about keeping the focus on the right direction about trying to gain the three points because already the crowd are starting to build the atmosphere.

Everton are in a relegation battle now, but I still think they will be good enough to stay up.

There is a lot of talk about how their points deduction will galvanise the whole club but I think there is a chance the occasion could suit Manchester United because there is going to be a powder keg atmosphere at Goodison Park on Sunday.

There is the risk that Everton's players could get over-excited, and they need to keep 11 players on the field.

I am sure that will be the message from their manager Sean Dyche too and, if they manage that, Everton have a very good chance of winning this game. Their recent form has been very good.

Results-wise, Manchester United have been doing better than anyone, with four wins in their past five league games, but if you have seen them play this season you will know they have mostly been awful.

I have got a sneaky feeling they will benefit from all the fervour around Everton at the moment and somehow find a way of winning this game too, but I believe in fairytales, which is why I am going with an Everton victory.

Goodison will be absolutely bouncing if I am right.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou speaking to Match of the Day: "I'm disappointed for the fans and also the players because they played outstandingly well. I thought some of our football was as good as it's been since I got here. I’m disappointed we weren’t able to enjoy the rewards of what I think our efforts deserved.

"All you can ask for as a manager is that the guys who are out there play with the same intent, and as the team we want to be, and they did it all today, so there's no frustration, just disappointment."

On Rodrigo Bentancur going off injured: "I'm disappointed for him because I don't think it was a great tackle. That's what we're going through at the moment but if we keep playing that kind of football we're on the right path."

On Terry Venables: "He embodies, more than anyone else, what this club is all about. It's not just about wins or losses but the way you carry yourself and approach the game and approach life. He made his mark far and wide but particularly here at Tottenham."

There will be an incredible atmosphere, it's already building outside the stadium. It's been building since about midday today in a few moments time that will all culminate in players walking out of that tunnel and this place, this Goodison Park atmosphere will absolutely erupt.

They played well today it was just their finishing in the first half. If they finish it's a different football match with things going against you offsides and stuff, injury to Rodrigo Bentancur.

It's tough times for Tottenham at the moment but I think there's positive signs there. None of these fans are having a go at these players.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa goalscorer Ollie Watkins, talking to Sky Sports, says: "They are where they are in the league because of how they're playing so a massive three points.

"Our away form has not been as good as we can be. I've got quite a good record here at Spurs so nice to get another goal.

"It's unbelievable, a great feeling and we're playing great football. But we're not getting carried away. We're not even at Christmas yet and we have some tough matches coming up so we have to keep going."

On his disallowed goal: "If I was a size seven or eight it would've been a goal. It either goes your way or not and Pau's one [the first goal] was tight. We got that and that was a massive boost to go in 1-1 at half-time."

Louds jeers as the Premier League branding is brought out onto the pitch, followed by chants of "Everton, Everton, Everton" and those cards are being held up around Goodison Park.

Manchester United have lost 16 of their 56 matches in 2023, last faring worse 22 years ago when they suffered 17 defeats in 55 games.

They have only led for 130 minutes in the Premier League this season, which is 169 minutes fewer than Everton.

All seven of their league wins this season were by a one-goal margin.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins speaking to Match of the Day: “We didn’t have the best of starts, we were lucky to come in at 1-1. That goal right before half-time was a massive boost for us and it was crucial really.

“I don’t think there’s been a game where we haven’t created chances. We have a big belief in ourselves. We had plenty of opportunities to score and we came away with the three points, which is massive for us.

"The games are coming thick and fast now but when you’re on a good run, like we are, that’s what you want. I think all the lads are looking forward to it.”

The Toffees are vying to earn consecutive league wins for the first time in 13 months.

They have equalled the club record of 10 home league defeats in a calendar year, set on four previous occasions.

But crucially going into this weekend, Everton had earned 10 points from their last five games, a record only Manchester United (12) and Liverpool (11) can better.

So on the pitch their form has hugely improved in recent weeks.

A highly-charged atmosphere is expected at Goodison Park, with the feeling of injustice quite clear.

Following the 10-point deduction, Everton dropped to 19th in the table, on the same number of points as bottom side Burnley.

Having won six of their last nine games in all competition, there was a general feeling that the Toffees would still be fine despite the sanction.

But Luton look to have put in the works, their 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday means Sean Dyche's side are five points adrift of safety.

Dyche says in the matchday programme: "Since I walked through the door, I have seen a group of players and a fanbase who have given everything for the benefit of Everton.

"I can't thank you enough for that and we will need more of the same to face the obvious challenges that lie ahead of us. Together, we can move forward and get to where we want to be.

"Our form is encouraging and the feelings of our recent performances have been good, backed incredibly by your support both and the home.

"The goal for us doesn't change. We have to win football matches."

Looking at the state of the Premier League, I think there are three or four teams that Everton can give a head start and still get to safety.

Everton would have been 14th in the Premier League table without their 10-point deduction. A win over Manchester United would take the Toffees above Sheffield United and into 18th.
