  1. HITS THE WOODWORK - Kulusevski (Tottenham)published at 3 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Aston Villa

A great start to the match with chances at the both ends. Superb skill from Dejan Kulusevski, cutting inside in his marker inside the penalty area, he curls at goal but sees the ball bounce off the inside of the post with Emiliano Martinez well beaten. Luckily for Villa the ball doesn't fall to a Spurs man and they survive.

  2. Postpublished at 14:05 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2023

    Tottenham 0-0 Aston Villa

What a chance for Tottenham. Destiny Udogie storms through and chases onto a long ball forwards, but he can't get it down with the first touch and can only balloon it well over the top when only faced with Emiliano Martinez to beat.

  3. Postpublished at 2 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Aston Villa

Emerson Royal and Ben Davies are the Spurs central defensive partnership today with Micky van de Ven out injured and Cristian Romero suspended.

  4. KICK-OFFpublished at 14:03 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2023

    Tottenham 0-0 Aston Villa

We are under way. Both of these sides have enjoyed a great start to the season. Can either leave with the three points?

Aston Villa make an instant burst down the left but the cross can't be steered goalwards by Matty Cash, who found himself in a central position 10 yards out.

    Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

When he walked up to me I was smiling because I knew something funny was going to come out of his mouth but the way his sides play, always on the front foot, always entertaining and that's why I do see a bit of Terry Venables in Ange Postecoglu that's for sure.

  7. Villa not the same force away from homepublished at 13:59 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2023

Tottenham v Aston Villa (14:00 GMT)

    Alistair Bruce-Ball
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live

They're certainly not the force on the road that they have been at Villa Park which is why I think both of these managers and both of these sets of players will be going into this one thinking, 'I tell you what there's some goals in this for us today' but both teams are thinking that which is what makes it so exciting.

  8. Sutton's predictionpublished at 13:59 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2023

Tottenham v Aston Villa (14:00 GMT)

    Chris Sutton
    Former Blackburn striker

I interviewed Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou this week and he came across really well. He has a process he believes in, and it has brought him a lot of success.

Yes, Spurs have got some key players missing with Cristian Romero suspended and Micky van de Ven and James Maddison both injured, but he is not going to change the way his side play.

It is going to be fascinating to see how they get on because Aston Villa are so well organised under Unai Emery, and you know they will be ready for them.

Tottenham will try to dominate possession but Villa could try to press high and get after them or sit back and contain and look to hit them on the break.

If I had to pick a winner, then I would go with Villa because they are so wily and they could expose any gaps Spurs leave open but I actually think this one will end up in a draw.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-2.

  9. 'Spurs would rather have a manager that goes more aggressive'published at 13:57 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2023

Tottenham v Aston Villa (14:00 GMT)

    Nedum Onuoha
Former Manchester City defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

From a Spurs perspective, I could be wrong here, I feel like they'd rather have a manager that goes more aggressive than in years gone by when they would have had every defensive midfielder available in north London to try to protect that 0-0 for as long as they could.

  10. Pre-game statspublished at 13:53 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2023

Tottenham v Aston Villa (14:00 GMT)

    • Aston Villa beat Tottenham home and away last season and can win three consecutive Premier League matches against them for only the second time, following a run of four from 1994 to 1996.
    • Spurs had a different manager for each of their four previous league fixtures against Villa at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium: Mauricio Pochettino, Ryan Mason, Nuno and Antonio Conte. Ange Postecoglou will be the fifth in as many games.
    • Previously unbeaten Spurs have suffered back-to-back defeats against Chelsea and Wolves despite opening the scoring in both matches.
    • Villa have equalled the club record of 21 Premier League victories in a calendar year, set in 1998. They last won 22 top-flight games in a single year in 1980.
    • Unai Emery's side have only managed two wins in their past 10 away league games (drawn three, lost five).

Tottenham will move up to third with a win today, although Villa can go above Spurs into fourth with the three points.

Manchester United will leap above Brighton and Newcastle up to sixth if they defeat Everton in the later game.

  12. 'Best call of my life'published at 13:47 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2023

    Nayim
Former Tottenham and Barcelona midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

The best call of my life was Terry Venables when he was Tottenham manager and he gave me a call to join. I was training on my own because Johan Cruyff didn't let me train with the team, it was about three months training on my own.

Terry Venables knew about that he knew how I play. He said 'I'm Terry Venables I would love you to come to Tottenham'. I told him about my situation, I think he knew anyway and that was the best call of my life.

That changed my life for everything not only in my professional career but personal as well.

In 1962, my dad as a young boy and autograph hunter, cheekily hopped onto the Chelsea team bus after a match against Derby at the Baseball Ground. One of team shouted and swore at him, which so incensed Terry Venables, he made sure every player on the bus signed for my dad. Pure class.

Terry will always be synonymous with England and Euro 96, but what an incredible job he did with the Boro in 2000-01. Became joint-manager with Robbo at the start of December when we looked doomed, and led us to safety with games to spare. RIP, Terry, and thank you.

  17. Barca 'deeply regrets' Venables newspublished at 13:36 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2023

  18. 'He will be sorely missed'published at 13:34 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2023

    Garth Crooks
    Former Tottenham Hotspur striker

Devastated by the news that Terry Venables has left the football world. The game has lost another ambassador. He was a great communicator, tactician and football manager with a wonderful sense of humour. He not only created teams he could handle the big names.

In fact, the bigger the names the better he handled them. He will be remembered for taking England so close to winning the Euros in 1996 but I will remember him for starting the extraordinary dynasty at Barcelona. He won the Spanish title and took them to the European Cup final against Steaua Bucharest.

He is one of the few managers who have won the FA Cup as a player for Tottenham and as a manager. He has made a massive contribution to the beautiful game and he will be sorely missed.

  19. 'A legacy that captured the imagination of many'published at 13:31 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2023

The FA has also posted this statement on X: "We are all deeply saddened by the passing of former England manager Terry Venables, a true football icon.

"As one of the sport's most charismatic figures, he leaves behind a legacy that captured the imagination of many and enhanced the global reputation of the English game.

"Today our game mourns the loss of not only a great character but an innovative, forward-thinking manager who was an inspiration to a generation of English players and coaches."

  20. 'He had all the time in the world'published at 13:29 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2023

    Guillem Balague
Spanish football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

I queued to get Terry Venables' autograph and it was the longest queue. It took so long for the 60/70 that were there because he gave every single person there some time to talk about his own experience or their experience with Spanish football or with his Barcelona.

He gave me five minutes when I was a journalist who'd just arrived in England and he had all the time in the world.
