Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has faced the press before the club faces young Boys in the Champions League. He was first asked about Erling Haaland's fitness: "I can't [give an update]. We train this afternoon."

On if he expects Haaland to train: "I don't know. Yesterday he told me he feels much better, but I don't know."

On winning games at home: "We don't think about it, we try to win whether it's home or away. We feel more comfortable to play with our people, locker room and having a good experience in this stadium over the years. That is why it gives us a lot of confidence but you have to win it again."

  3. Stop spreading malicious rumours - Rashfordpublished at 12:27 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2023

Marcus Rashford has called on Manchester United fan channel 'The United Stand' to "please STOP spreading malicious rumours, external" in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

The United and England striker responded on his official account to a live podcast from The United Stand entitled: "Rashford's future in doubt?"

It followed his absence from Saturday's 1-0 win at Fulham.

The club said the striker was unable to play due to receiving a "heavy knock to his leg in training" but still travelled with the matchday squad.

However, the fan channel suggested his injury was convenient, following manager Erik ten Hag's public criticism of Rashford's "unacceptable" birthday celebrations after United's 3-0 defeat by Manchester City on 29 October.

  4. McNulty Q&A - Are Man City the team to beat?published at 12:25 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2023

Aaron L: Have we seen signs of Manchester City really kicking into top gear against Manchester United and Bournemouth? Are they the team to beat?

I would say with great confidence that if a team finishes above Manchester City this season they will win the Premier League. They were my tip before the start of the season and I see no reason to change.

They were not quite at their best right at the start of the season, missing the injured Kevin De Bruyne, and when they were off it recently and lost a couple of games it coincided with Rodri’s suspension. He is so important.

Let’s just say the last couple of games have looked ominous for anyone wanting to take the title off them.

Nottingham Forest left-back Harry Toffolo speaking to Sky Sports: "We played games where we should have won before today. To be able to get the three points and clean sheet against a team like Aston Villa is magical.

"We showed you the resilience of this group and the mentality going into this game was perfect today from start to finish."

Aston Villa's Moussa Diaby, speaking to PLP: "Today was not a good game. We conceded the first goal too early, we tried to come back but then in the second half we conceded another early goal. It is difficult to come back here when you are 2-0 down.

"We have to keep our heads up and continue to work for the next game. Nottingham Forest played well in defence. We are very fast on the counter attack but they defended very well and it was difficult to find the space behind.

"We have to work and find the solutions for the next game. When you play away it is always difficult. Thursday we play at home and we have to get the win to have more confidence for the next Premier League game."

    Nottingham Forest 2-0 Aston Villa

Aston Villa's manager Unai Emery also had his say on the result: "We started the match very poor but we reacted well, we had chances and opportunities to score.

"The players fought until the last minute. Of course it is hard to lose, but we have to accept it.

"We made two mistakes early in each half and it is difficult to come back. We have to be stronger defensively away if we want to get to be one of the top seven teams in the Premier League.

"I learn when we are winning, I learn when we draw and I learn when we are losing."

  7. 'Win was really satisfying' - Cooperpublished at 12:07 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2023

    Nottingham Forest 2-0 Aston Villa

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper described their 2-0 win over Aston Villa "really satisfying".

"It was a win we really wanted, of course," Cooper said. "We knew it was going to be a really tough game coming up against one of the real in form teams with really good players and a great manager."

  8. Nottingham Forest record convincing win over Villapublished at 12:00 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2023

    Nottingham Forest 2-0 Aston Villa

Nottingham Forest gained their first win in seven matches with a victory over in-form Aston Villa at the City Ground.

Ola Aina gave Forest a fifth-minute lead with his first goal for the club, powerfully side-footing into the net from 25 yards after Anthony Elanga's burst down the left was followed by Harry Toffolo's pass.

Villa would have gone third in the Premier League with the three points, but instead they lost in the league for the first time since 3 September when they were beaten 3-0 by Liverpool at Anfield.

  9. McNulty Q&A - Will Arteta be punished?published at 11:55 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2023

@Smithmichaelw: What punishment can Arteta expect?

Tough one this. Will he get any punishment at all?

I’m sure the FA will look at it but he seemed to be attacking the process rather than individuals so I’m not sure he will be punished.

VAR is causing a lot of angst at the moment and I’m afraid we will have more managers speaking out. As I’ve mentioned, Arteta has not actually pinpointed anything specific as to why he felt the goal should have been disallowed.

Young defender Rico Lewis will accompany manager Pep Guardiola on Manchester City's European media duties later.

I remember speaking to Lewis after City had beaten Girona last December in a friendly that was arranged to give players not involved at the World Cup some match practice ahead of the Premier League resumption.

At the time, Lewis had made six first-team appearances. In the 11 months since, he has made another 26 and proved himself capable of playing at full-back or in midfield.

  11. McNulty Q&A - Why does Antony continue to be picked?published at 11:38 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2023

    AntonyImage source, Getty Images

@eddieclarke96 on X, formerly Twitter: Why does Erik ten Hag keep picking Antony?

Well he paid £80m for him so he clearly sees something there but at the moment I’m not sure what that is.

Antony, in my opinion, was grossly over-priced and has not done anything yet to suggest that price tag is a realistic one. He may do eventually but I cannot say I’m holding my breath.

Brain injury charity Headway wants stronger action on concussion protocol following a "concerning" incident with Manchester United defender Harry Maguire on Saturday.

Maguire showed signs of discomfort following a collision with Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz.

He was assessed by United's medical staff before being allowed to continue.

Headway chief executive Luke Griggs said it was "concerning for a number of reasons".

We will move on from the Luton-Liverpool game, but first, here are the thoughts of former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuaha on Luis Diaz's late equaliser:

"You can see how much his Liverpool team-mates support him, how much the staff and fans support him, and just the football community overall," Onuaha told BBC Sounds' Football Daily podcast.

"Everyone is rooting for the family situation to be sorted. We can argue about so many things, but come together on key things and that was an example of that.

"He had his shirt ready and was motivated to make sure he could show it - and he did that."

  14. 'Both teams will be fine - I'm sitting quite happy'published at 11:27 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2023

    Luton Town 1-1 Liverpool

Luton Town fan and former Liverpool goalkeeper David James on BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast: "I kind of didn't want to [have split loyalties] and I did kind of cheer when both teams scored and yeah. Of course I want Luton to stay up but I also want Liverpool to challenge for the title, so it was a difficult one.

"I think the case for Luton was always going to be to try and...it sounds obvious...but try and get their points at home and if they can nick some away as they did against Everton then you know that's a bonus. And the way they've set up... no-one's really hammered them, especially at Kenilworth Road.

"I think the concern that Luton will have, and as a fan I shouldn't really be saying this, is they concede too many crosses. I think Liverpool had 20 plus crosses yesterday and eventually they scored from one.

"With regards to Liverpool, if you're getting in positions to score the goals, there are going to be the odd game where you don't score from two yards, but then the next time you'll score three. They'll be fine. Both teams will be fine. I'm sitting quite happy."

Luton fans' opinions on Sunday's 1-1 draw against Liverpool:

Matt: Good performance by the Hatters. Looking better every week. That's a bonus point - gutted it wasn't three. We don't need to be better than the top sides, just better than the bottom three.

Mark: Brilliant display from Luton Town. Rob Edwards was on point with his players. You boys are staying up.

  18. McNulty Q&A - Can Luton survive?published at 11:02 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2023

    Rob EdwardsImage source, Getty Images

@ChrisGill95 on X, formerly Twitter: Looks like Luton are slowly finding their feet in the Premier League, they showed quality yesterday and you can see they are starting to believe in themselves. Deserved all three points. Do you reckon they can survive?

I still have doubts about whether they will survive but what we can say for sure is that they will be lacking nothing in effort, determination and organisation.

Manager Rob Edwards has got real spirit there as well.

Luton will be disappointed at conceding an equaliser so late against Liverpool but that is still an outstanding result. It will give them real belief and that can sometimes take you to places you didn’t think you were going to go.

Liverpool fans' opinions on the Sunday's 1-1 draw at Luton:

Josh: This is the difference between us and Manchester City over the past few years. Erling Haaland and co would have put four or five past Luton. We just aren't clinical enough in and around the box.

Daniel: One of the worst performances I’ve seen this season. We were completely lacklustre and underestimated a very well executed Luton side. Anybody who goes back to watch it would believe Luton were the better side in this game, and they were. Luis Diaz, you absolute hero!
