They had that chance early on and we were expecting England to play the game in [Malta's] half.

I think a lot of people relate to this England team and relating to them sells crowds. I think that's a big part of it [selling out regularly] as well.

Conor Gallagher just got caught on the ball in midfield.

Tom: Not a Liverpool fan but a massive fan of Alexander-Arnold. He is such a creative player and probably our best passer of the ball since Beckham. England have to find a way to accommodate him in this team.

Kyle: If England go for it and attack games at the Euros we can win it. We have the talent, especially in attacking areas. We also have arguably the best midfielder in the world in Bellingham and Kane and Saka in attack.

Franky: If you can't give players an opportunity at home to Malta, then there's no hope is there? How about playing with a proper left-back and some players in form, not just players who haven't let England down!

The clamour for wholesale changes and blooding of new faces shows exactly how short of sight and memory many England 'supporters' are. Southgate did just that against Australia in the last break and we were poor. It was the perfect advert for not just throwing lots of new players together. Seven months out from the start of a major tournament isn't the time to experiment.

    Joe Cole
Ex-Chelsea and England midfielder on Channel 4

He has done what we have all tried to do and failed. He was the talisman of that team alongside Bobby Moore. His goalscoring record stood for so long and by all accounts he was a gentleman as well.

He was captain of Manchester United and England and still had time for everyone. No one ever said a bad word about him.

England manager Gareth Southgate on Channel Four: "We have to win, we always want to play well. We have 80,000 fans here buying in to what we're doing.

"I think nights like this are definitely opportunities for people to see what they can do. This is a different test. It poses a difficult tactical issue playing against a low-block. We have players who can unlock the door like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Harry Kane.

"[Alexander-Arnold] loves the role he's had with Liverpool for a number of years. There are no doubts he can do both. We've liked what he's done in midfield for us. His passing range and vision is exceptional. He has another chance tonight."

Malta are playing for pride. The world's 171st-ranked nation are one of five teams without a single point on the board in Euros qualifiers - alongside San Marino, Cyprus, Gibraltar and Liechtenstein.

Malta are at risk of losing all of their qualifying matches for a single European Championships for the first time since Euro 2000 qualifying and for only the second time in 51 years.

Henderson and Rashford instead of Rice and Grealish/Bowen? Has Southgate been watching the Saudi league more then we have or something? Rashford isn't in great form either. Strange.
