We won't be seeing Jude Bellingham or Levi Colwill in action tonight. Both withdrew from the England squad on Tuesday because of shoulder injuries.

In total five players have pulled out of Gareth Southgate's initial squad for this month's international break.

On Monday, Cole Palmer, Ezri Konsa and Rico Lewis replaced the injured James Maddison, Callum Wilson and Lewis Dunk.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola thinks defender Rico Lewis is "one of the best" he has ever coached.

Earlier this week former City midfielder Michael Brown joined The Football News Show to discuss the 18-year-old's versatility and whether he could be an option on the left side of England's defence.

Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield, what do we reckon? This week the Liverpool star said he hoped to be a "big part" in England's Euro 2024 midfield plans.

The right-back, 25, is now listed as a midfielder for England and is expected to play there tonight.

"When I'm here, when I'm not here, I'm constantly thinking about trying to get into the team for the summer," he said.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, despite a host of club success, has only won 21 caps for England.

That's down to Gareth Southgate's glut of right-back options. But he impressed in midfield in England's other qualifier against Malta in June.

"Since we spoke in the summer, me and the manager, about a midfield opportunity and to see if we could make it work, there has been a newfound excitement for me," added Alexander-Arnold.

"It is a huge opportunity and it is one I am grateful to have, but also making sure I take it.

"It's still early days, I haven't had much experience in there so still learning on the job and about picking it up as much as I can when I am in there."

Asked if going to Germany as a midfielder was a target, he said: "Massively so, it is something I think about often, it is something that motivates me."

    Hello and good evening!

We've got a bit of Friday night football with England back in international action.

With Euros qualification already wrapped up, Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate is likely to give some of those who have been on the fringes of the squad a chance to impress.

We'll find out soon enough with official teams due to drop any minute now.

It's often said there are 'no easy games' in international football but come on, that's not really the case, is it?

Gareth Southgate and his band of gifted stars should win tonight, and quite handsomely too. Malta have lost all seven of their Euro qualifiers, scoring just two and conceding 18.

In contrast, England are already through to this summer's Euros, unbeaten at the top of Group C.

The hosts will hope to rack up the goals.
