  1. 'Absurd' penalty decision - Colepublished at 20:48 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2023

    HT: North Macedonia 1-0 England

The Channel 4 pundits both think it should not have been a penalty.

Joleon Lescott said: "It's very harsh. There's no way he would have known the forward was closing him down. There's no way it should be given."

Joe Cole added: "That's absurd. The referee saw it in real time. You'll get people running into people's hands and elbows in the box now. The referee wants to be in the star of the show."

Manager Robert Page has urged Wales to end their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign "on a high" after a disappointing draw in Armenia.

Saturday's 1-1 draw means Wales must now beat Group D leaders Turkey in Cardiff on Tuesday and hope Croatia do not win at home to Armenia.

Failing that, Wales will almost certainly have the back-up option of the play-offs in March.

"Unfortunately it's now out of our control," said Page. "With a win, we'd all have been buzzing and looking forward to the game on Tuesday and a [further] win would have seen us qualify.

"It's not materialised as we'd like but that's life and we have to get on with it.

"It's about building momentum and, if it's a play-off in March, it's a play-off in March. If results go for us, we've still got an opportunity to qualify [automatically].

"We can only control what we can do, get the players in the right frame of mind, mentally and physically ready for Tuesday.

Another example of how it is not VAR damaging the game at the moment, but the standard of referees using the system.

And that's the last of the action. England trail at the break after VAR gets involved and gives a penalty against 18-year-old debutant Rico Lewis.

Jordan Pickford initially saved it but it then fell to spot-kick taker Enis Bardhi and he converted the rebound.

Could England have a penalty themselves now? Marc Guehi went down at the near post, Harry Maguire got booted in the face.

  10. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:34 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2023

    North Macedonia 1-0 England

England so nearly get a goal in first-half injury time. It is a lovely dipping attempt from Trent Alexander-Arnold 20 yards out but goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski does excellently to acrobatically tip it over the top.

Amazed how is that a pen world has gone mad

    Stu, Swindon

How can you win a penalty for running into the arm of a player in the air winning a header that's a joke.

    Chris, Wales

I think Rico Lewis is a little unfortunate to concede that penalty. However, North Macedonia definitely deserved one earlier when Maguire stumbled and shoved his opponent to the ground.

North Macedonia have had 17% of the ball and lead. England finally register a shot on target with Rico Lewis' effort saved reasonably comfortably by Stole Dimitrievski.

It was initially a great save from Pickford but it is unfortunate that the ball bounces back to Bardhi to give him a second chance.

Out of nowhere England are behind, and after a solid 40-minute display they don't deserve to be.

The rebound from Jordan Pickford's save falls straight to Enis Bardhi and he makes no mistake this time, by smashing it into the net.

This is bonkers, it is unbelievable.

Lewis has gone up to head the ball, and his arm has flicked out as he jumped, naturally his arms will go up into the air.

He has only slightly flicked the player in the eye. A rubbish decision, it is re-refereeing. Unfortunate, nothing more.

It has tarnished an otherwise great first-half performance from Rico Lewis.
