    Port Vale 0-2 Middlesbrough

Ouch! Another nasty looking injury at Vale Park as Middlesbrough's Emmanuel Latte Lath goes down off the ball clutching his hamstring.

He pulls a grimace stacked with emotion, but, after a quick jog, he's just about OK to continue.

    Michael Keane own goal

Fulham take the lead at Goodison Park. Willian is involved in the build-up and plays it to the overlapping Antonee Robinson. He fires in a cross and Michael Keane doesn't know much about it as it bounces off him and past Jordan Pickford for an own goal.

    Everton 0-0 fulham

Chance for Fulham from that free-kick. Willian takes it, the ball goes under the wall, and there is no-one there in the 'draft excluder' position. Just wide.

    Port Vale 0-2 Middlesbrough

Connor Ripley doesn't look too happy. He shakes his head, but for now he's OK to carry on.

With six minutes until the break, it might just be a case of seeing how he gets on.

    Everton 0-0 Fulham

Everton's Michael Keane gets a booking and it seems a harsh one as he had made an attempt to win the ball, but was involved in a clash of heads with Rodrigo Muniz.

You cannot land that on Mauricio Pochettino's doorstep that is individual errors, it is something you cannot account for when you do your midweek preparation.

Now Newcastle are 1-0 up and Chelsea have it all to do.

Morgan Rogers is clearly a man for a big occasion.

The Midlands-born former Manchester City youngster has now scored five times for Middlesbrough this season.

One was a last-minute winner to wreck Wayne Rooney's first game in charge of Birmingham City at the Riverside in October - and the other four have been away from home in the EFL Cup.

it's enough to get the Boro fans in full voice. They are the only ones singing now. Including one aimed at their former keeper - and Boro fan Connor Ripley. A quick burst of "Ripley, Ripley, what's the score? Well, it would have been rude not to!

    Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

Newcastle pushing for a quickfire second. Tino Livramento plays it out left to Anthony Gordon, whose first touch isn't good enough and he continues the run without the ball at his feet. If he'd taken it in his stride, Chelsea would have been in trouble.

Middlesbrough are wrestling back control. Port Vale haven't really recovered after Gavin Massey's miss just now.

A wide free-kick finds Boro's Jonny Howson on the edge of the box but he slices a rushed shot well wide.

Callum Wilson bundles his way through two defenders and Benoit Badiashile somehow fumbles it into Wilson's pass.

Wilson is cool and calm - placing it into the side netting.

I do feel for Mauricio Pochettino - individual mistakes costing Chelsea.

Good chance for Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite, who is free in the penalty area from Jack Harrison's cross. Branthwaite heads down but it is straight at away keeper Bernd Leno.

  18. CLOSE!published at 20:16 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2023

    Port Vale 0-2 Middlesbrough

    Was that Port Vale's chance!?

Manager Andy Crosby has his head in his hands as an Ethan Chisslet cross beats goalkeeper Tom Glover for pace and finds Gavin Massey unmarked in the area, but the forward pokes the ball over the bar from six yards out.

He may have even brushed the top of the crossbar with his shot.

Benoit Badiashile gives Newcastle a Christmas present six days early.

Callum Wilson runs onto a loose Chelsea ball in his own half and takes it 50 yards. Blues defender Badiashile gets in his way and wins the ball, before mis-kicking it back into the path of Wilson who fires home.

Plenty of endeavour from both sides but just that one big moment so far when Conor Gallagher hit the bar. Moises Caicedo can consider himself very lucky to get only a yellow card for that challenge on Anthony Gordion. Not good at all.
