Pochettino spoke brilliantly, though. He said he thinks they are penalties but that Liverpool were much better than them. He accepted it and you have to move on.

  3. 'We lost every single duel'published at 23:00 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January

    FT: Liverpool 4-1 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino to TNT Sports: "It's so clear they were much better than us. We lost every single duel. Every time we recovered the ball after one or two touches we lost it."

On the two penalty shouts: "It was bad luck for us but that doesn't change the feeling Liverpool were better than us.

"We move on. That was only one game. We knew Liverpool are one of the best teams. Maybe it was a little bit too much for us."

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino to BBC Match of the Day: "I think Liverpool were better than us, they deserved the three points. We were not good enough, I think for many reasons and I think there is too much to say, they were better than us."

On the two penalty decisions that went against Chelsea: "Maybe yes, you need some luck sometimes. The [Conor] Gallagher penalty incident after seven minutes, I think it might have helped us to build our confidence and help us to play and face the game. When you play against a team like Liverpool that is doing really well and is one of the best teams in the last few years and very consistent, you need some points that can help the situation but today the situation was always against us."

On what he learned from this game to take into the Carabao Cup final: "Massive game, we can learn a lot and approach the game in a different way. we need to be more aggressive and address them with the same energy. Today they were much better than us."

  6. 'Liverpool have the bit between their teeth'published at 22:52 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January

    FT: Liverpool 4-1 Chelsea

    Rio Ferdinand
Former England defender on TNT Sports

If Liverpool go and beat Arsenal at the weekend and go five points clear, they set the stall out to say 'come and catch us'.

This performance will have made other teams thing 'hold on, the Liverpool from two or three seasons ago are back'.

They have got the bit between their teeth.

  7. 'Conor is flying at the moment'published at 22:51 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January

    FT: Liverpool 4-1 Chelsea

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to TNT Sports: "You have to play outstandingly well to keep Chelsea calm. They're super talented. The way we started the game was really strong.

"We could have scored one or two more. We brought on Trent and Robbo. The boys need rhythym."

On Conor Bradley: "Incredible. Wonderful. He's flying at the moment. Rightly so. He's working hard and is a good footballer. He's helped us so much it's incredible. Quite a few people said we need a right-back in the summer but we were very positive about Conor.

"All the injuries we have, we can't string these results together if these boys don't show up."

  8. 'We were oustanding'published at 22:49 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to BBC Match of the Day: "I don't think you can have an outstanding team performance when the individuals don't work together. The start was brilliant, we were really going for them. They tried to find [Cole] Palmer and we had struggles when the pressing was not right. We were outstanding, it was a top game. We could have scored and should have scored more goals. You cannot score five, six goals against Chelsea if you are not outstanding."

On Conor Bradley: "What a wonderful kid he is. Outstanding finish, the whole game, the contribution, the involvement. It's a job to play against [Raheem] Sterling, that's not easy. I'm really happy for him. He's a very serious young man and that was pretty special I have to say. We saw in pre-season. He is really doing well. A few weeks ago when I was in holiday a few Bolton fans asked if they could have Bradley back but it's too late! For us it's important because we could not have put this string of results together without these boys. Without [Jarell] Quansah, Conor and Bobby [Clark], they really helped us through this period. Joe Gomez has created his own position if you want. It's really good, really happy for the boys."

On Darwin Nunez: "He was really disappointed with himself about missing the penalty but he is a handful. It was really hard for him. Then he headed against the crossbar. He sets up a goal even after the massive disappointment. That's the most important thing. He is in outstanding shape, still a bit unlucky so it's all fine."

Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez hit the woodwork more times tonight - four - than any other player has managed in the entire Premier League season so far.

He is on nine for the season now, three times more than anybody else.

There comes a point when you can't be classed as a raw player. I think Nunez will score goals and will be a handful but I think there comes a point where he will need to be more clinical.

  13. 'Maupay hasn't scored enough goals for his own celebration'published at 22:38 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January

    FT: Tottenham 3-2 Brentford

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham midfielder James Maddison speaking to TNT Sport: "It was lovely to be back. When you're injured and starved of doing what you love, that just reminded me why I love football so much, just being out there tonight.

"First half was stop-start, the kind of first half Brentford would have wanted, a lot of stoppages and set-pieces. In the second half, we had too much for them. It's never simple and plain sailing here, there's always a lot of goals at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium."

On his time out injured: "I'm a moaner at the best of times and I'm worse when I'm injured. There's a design fault at Spurs, all the physio beds face the pitch with a big glass window. You're getting your treatment and you're watching the lads train every day, it's tough. But I'm through it now, I'm feeling good and strong."

On his clash with Neal Maupay: "I just said to him, he hasn't scored enough goals of his own in the last few years to have his own celebration, so he had to copy mine. Short story, ended well for us."

On hopes for Spurs' season: "I feel really positive, we have had a stop-start year with injuries to our XI. It derailed us a bit, with that Chelsea game with injuries and suspensions. But I don't think the gaffer wants to put a ceiling on it, we can do something special. We have 16 games left, we can go on a big run. If you don't believe something special can happen, nothing can happen."

  14. 'Probably the first header in my life'published at 22:36 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January

    FT: Liverpool 4-1 Chelsea

    Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai to TNT Sports: "Conor Bradley was really good. A goal, two assists. He couldn't wish for a better day. We're very happy to have him.

"I didn't have to do so much because it came on my head. It's probably the first header in my life.

"Trent should take care of his position. No, we need everyone. We have a lot of games.

"First of all we have a free day tomorrow. Everyone should take care with what we're doing tonight. Hopefully everyone goes to sleep and we're ready for Sunday [match with title rivals Arsenal]."

  15. 'I now think Liverpool can push City'published at 22:35 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January

    FT: Liverpool 4-1 Chelsea

    Rio Ferdinand
Former England defender on TNT Sports

Conor Bradley will totally understand that when Trent Alexander-Arnold is fit, Trent will play. The manager has that card in his pocket now that he can trust these players and play them. If a squad is going to be challenging for multiple trophies you need players that are behind and pushing. They are top of the league and flying and the balance is brilliant.

This team tonight, this was the first time I have watched them and thought they could push Manchester City. When I have watched them previously I thought they weren't firing on all cylinders. This performance will breed confidence.

  16. 'We showed our quality and 4-1 is a good result'published at 22:34 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January

    Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai to BBC Match of the Day: "We just gave everything that we had, the first 11 and the guys who came in. We showed our quality and 4-1 is a good result."

On Conor Bradley: "He just put the ball on my head so I didn't really have to do much. We are really happy to have him because he showed many times that he is ready to play. Today he got a goal and two assists. He showed what he can do .

"We are confident, probably it helps that we are getting the result we wanted but we work for it every time and we are ready for Arsenal."

  17. 'A special performance from Bradley'published at 22:32 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January

Conor Bradley was absolutely magnificent. Every Liverpool player was brilliant tonight but that was a special performance. The manager will have a headache now because I'm not sure you can leave him out of the side. Anyone who went over his side, he defended unbelievably.

  18. 'Chelsea looked bang average'published at 22:31 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January

    FT: Liverpool 4-1 Chelsea

    Chris Sutton
Former Blackburn striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Have Chelsea improved from last season? Yes, but they couldn't be much worse.

They need to be patient with Mauricio Pochettino, but Chelsea looked like a bang average mid-table team.

  19. 'I feel like I'm in a dream'published at 22:30 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January

    FT: Liverpool 4-1 Chelsea

    Liverpool

Liverpool right-back Conor Bradley to TNT Sports: "It's a very proud moment, something I dreamed of for a long time. I feel like I'm in a dream. It's unbelievable.

"I just couldn't believe my goal went in. I didn't know what to do. I went over to the corner and did a knee slide. It was brilliant, so it was.

"It was unfortunate the way Trent got injured. I just had to try to take my chance. I feel I've done pretty well.

"[Klopp leaving was a] big shock to us all. It's giving us extra motivation."

Conor Bradley has had to go out on loan and get his experience, he has waited in the wings for his chance.

Jurgen Klopp trusts him, he is good 1v1 defending and he is really strong going forward.

He will have dips which is natural, but for the future he is another option.
