"We started with a back five but we couldn’t keep the pressure up in the first half. We were far too deep and couldn’t maintain the back line.

"This Southampton team is so deep and well coached they found the space in-between and it was very difficult for us in the opening 45 minutes.

"We were so poor in the first half we were fortunate to be anywhere near the game."

"We were so good for 55-60 minutes it was incredible.

"Just relentless and we probably should have scored a couple more goals.

"I am so proud of everyone and all the supporters that came, an early start from them.

"I’m really pleased for the players who have written themselves into the history books today.

"I am frustrated with the last 15 minutes because it turned into a game that it shouldn’t have been, that’s probably on me, I made too many changes."

    Blackburn 1-1 Huddersfield

    Kevin Gallacher

Apart from the two goals there has not been much to write home about.

Blackburn should have been given a penalty in that first half, but apparently the referee didn't see it.

  12. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:55 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Rotherham

Could Rotherham snatch a first win on the road since November 2022?

Boro have been largely on top and created most of the chances but, like their Boxing Day defeat at Rotherham, they cannot break down the Millers defence.

And they’ve lost key man Isaiah Jones to injury. A huge blow for the hosts.

Huddersfield take the momentum into the break after Michal Helik cancelled out Adam Wharton’s opener.

    Plymouth 1-1 Cardiff

A good chance for Plymouth in first-half stoppage-time, but Jak Alnwick kept out Alfie Devine’s shot from a narrow angle.

There will be expectation among home fans after Ryan Hardie levelled things up following Perry Ng’s opener.

The Pilgrims' home record is very good indeed.

    Norwich 1-0 West Brom

Josh Sargent has Norwich up against fifth-placed West Brom at the break in this entertaining meeting of two sides with promotion ambitions.

What it has done, is hammer home just how hard the Canaries will need to work to close the gap to the top six today.

  16. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:52 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January

    Sheff Wed 0-1 Coventry

It has taken a sublime curled finish from Ben Sheaf to put promotion-chasing Coventry ahead against lowly Sheffield Wednesday.
