Swansea began the Luke Williams tenure with a frustrating 2-2 draw at Birmingham last weekend.

They remain six points outside of the play-off places but their results at the Swansea.com Stadium are where the greatest gains can be made - of their 13 games at home this season, they’ve only won four.

They’ve got a bad habit of struggling to keep a lead. Of 17 matches they’ve been in front this season, they’ve not won nine of them – 23 points lost in total.

Southampton thrashed Swansea 5-0 in the reverse fixture only three weeks ago, so there’s also a fair bit of pride at stake for their hosts when their former manager returns.

This afternoon’s lunchtime match pits one manager against one of his former assistant coaches.

When Russell Martin was in charge at Swansea and MK Dons, Luke Williams - the recently appointed new Swans boss - was part of his backroom staff at both clubs.

Williams went on to take the top job at Notts County before returning to Swansea a couple of weeks ago.

Martin - who left South Wales for Southampton last summer - is making his first return to his former club said he has "a lot of fondness for and gratitude towards" Williams.

That being said, the affection for the two years he had a Swansea will be put aside and Martin returns, with only one goal in mind. "I want to win," he said on Friday.

Before getting stuck into Saturday let's quickly look back at what happened in last night as Hull beat Sunderland 1-0 to move up into the play-off places (at least for now).

Forward Fabio Carvalho scored his first goal for the Tigers since arriving on loan from Premier League leaders Liverpool last week - and his first since December 2022 - with his volley taking a big deflection into the net for the winner in the 71st minute.

It was a second league defeat in a row for Sunderland - and third if you include the third round loss to Newcastle in the FA Cup - and pushes them down to eighth in a very tightly packed table, going into this afternoon's games.

And just like that we’re back with another packed Saturday of Championship football.

After a week of sub-zero temperatures and snow in plenty of parts of the country, we’re just happy we’ve got a full fixture list of games that are going ahead this afternoon - especially when a lot of games lower down the leagues have not been so lucky.

We’re starting early in South Wales with a meeting between Swansea and Southampton. Kick-off is coming up in 20 minutes.
