    Manchester City 2-1 Liverpool

The cameras capture City captain Steph Houghton on the bench, wearing what looks like about 12 layers of clothing.

It is a day to be wrapped up very, very, very warm in Manchester.

  2. Postpublished at 40 mins

    Manchester City 2-1 Liverpool

After that early aberration, City have been as dominant as Gareth Taylor would have hoped. They are moving within three points of Chelsea as we stand.

Liverpool would be seven points off the Champions League places.

  3. CLOSE!published at 49 mins

    Brighton 1-0 Bristol City

Good start to the second half from the Robins! Ella Powell puts in a fine cross from the right which Naomi Layzell heads wide, before moments later Jamie-Lee Napier slashes a left-footed strike wide from the edge of the area.

The visitors have Brighton pegged back.

  4. GREAT SAVE!published at 36 mins

    Manchester City 2-1 Liverpool

Teagan Micah makes some amends for that second City goal, with a smart save low to her right from Laura Coombs' shot.

City are making chances at will here.

  5. KICK-OFFpublished at 15:05 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Brighton 1-0 Bristol City

City's last full season in the WSL in 2020/21 saw them pick up just 12 points and finish bottom of the division. They have five as it stands at the halfway mark. Can they kick on?

    We're back playing in Crawley.

  6. CLOSE!published at 34 mins

    Manchester City 2-1 Liverpool

So nearly 3-1, as City come back at Liverpool again. A low cross from the left, Khadija Shaw connects with the volley but hooks it over the top.

The Jamaican is on to 10 league goals for the season, level as WSL top scorer with Lauren James.

  7. goal

GOAL - Manchester City 2-1 Liverpoolpublished at 15:03 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Khadjia Shaw (33 mins)

Liverpool are masters of their own downfall.

Teagan Micah plays a hospital pass towards Fuka Nagano, Khadija Shaw robs the Liverpool midfielder and then tucks past the Australian into the bottom corner.

It's a second goal which City deserve.

    Manchester City 1-1 Liverpool

Manchester City have made 62 successful passes in the final third.

    Liverpool have made two.

But both sides, most importantly, have scored the same amount of goals so far.

  9. Postpublished at 30 mins

    Manchester City 1-1 Liverpool

Leila Ouahabi fires in a near post cross which Khadija Shaw nearly reaches, however Liverpool manage to deal with it.

The Reds have recovered well having conceding so soon after taking the lead.

  10. Postpublished at 27 mins

    Manchester City 1-1 Liverpool

Liverpool venture forwards, and Sophie Roman Haug appears to win a corner - however a goal kick is given.

Manager Matt Beard is not impressed, and lets the fourth official know as much.

Bristol City have failed to score a first-half goal in seven of their 11 games, only Everton (8) have failed to score more often in the English Women's Super League this season.

  12. Postpublished at 25 mins

    Manchester City 1-1 Liverpool

Again Teagan Micah is pressurised, this time she clears a ball straight into the onrushing Khadija Shaw.

Laura Coombs tries to take advantage, but cannot control the ball as it falls to her and Micah can make amends.

  13. Postpublished at 24 mins

    Manchester City 1-1 Liverpool

A shaky moment for Reds keeper Teagan Micah, as she can't beat Chloe Kelly to a poor back pass.

Fortunately for Liverpool, Kelly is forced out wide and the visitors get enough bodies back to deal with the cross.

  14. Postpublished at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Manchester City 1-1 Liverpool

That was exactly what City needed. I was at their home defeat to Brighton, where they toiled all game despite dominating possession and chances.

This match could have had a similar theme, if not for that quick reply.

  15. goal

GOAL - Manchester City 1-1 Liverpoolpublished at 14:49 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

Gemma Bonner own goal (19 mins)

    Immediate response.

Esme Morgan with a brilliant cross from the right, Bunny Shaw is poised to pounce and Gemma Bonner has to slide to try and intercept.

But all the Reds centre back can do is divert the ball past Teagan Micah and into her own net.

  16. HALF-TIMEpublished at 14:49 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    HT: Brighton 1-0 Bristol City

So far, so good for the hosts who lead through another goal from Elisabeth Terland.

City have been well in the game but just look short of the cutting edge required at this level.

  17. Postpublished at 14:48 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Manchester City 0-1 Liverpool

How about that? Liverpool were totally under the cosh for the first quarter of an hour, but have snatched their opportunity when it was presented.

Liverpool would be up to fourth if they win here, just one point behind City.

  18. goal

GOAL - Manchester City 0-1 Liverpoolpublished at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Taylor Hinds (16 mins)

    What a finish!

Its a defensive nightmare for City, as Alex Greenwood intercepts a long ball which Khiara Keating was coming for. The ball runs free, leaving keeper Keating totally out of position.

Liverpool captain Taylor Hinds pounces on the loose ball, and perfectly measures her lob over the backpeddling Keating and into the back of the net.

  19. CLOSE!published at 42 mins

    Brighton 1-0 Bristol City

    Why not eh?

Abi Harrison chances her arm from an absolute mile out but doesn't quite catch hold of it enough. Brighton keeper Sophie Baggaley would have been worried when that was on its way though...

  20. GREAT SAVE!published at 13 mins

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

City create their best opening so far, after Liverpool give the ball away in a dangerous area.

Chloe Kelly has space to shoot on the right of the area, but Teagan Micah makes a smart low stop.
