  1. 'We did really well - it was just difficult'published at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February

    FT: Liverpool 3-1 Burnley

    Liverpool

More from Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp speaking to BBC MOTD: "They did, absolutely. It's Premier League and Burnley's quality. I like a lot of what they do, how they play and how calm Vincent Kompany is so early in his career. He is a top manager in the making obviously. He's willing to learn the hard way but still have this positive approach.

"It was super difficult today. We lost so many players two weeks ago and now, then Trent Alexander-Arnold has to go off at half-time. We have to see what's going on there. Curtis Jones had to go right-back and had never played there his entire life! He did so well. We scored these wonderful goals. Harvey Elliott came on and had a real impact. Top performances. We did really well it was just a difficult one.

"People think we go through with no real effort but that was never possible. It was a good afternoon. It was not a great moment to concede the goal but the good things was besides the first 15 minutes, we controlled some super situations.

"Burnley gave problems and we had to score at the right moments. We needed Caoimhín Kelleher as it was a really good game for him. He was calm on the ball for us.

"It's not only the three points. You cannot have momentum guarenteed all the time. Nine days ago we played incredible against Chelsea then we lost to Arsenal. It's always a different challenge. If it's not clicking straight away, fight through it. It was really tough today but the boys fought through and got three points."

  3. 'A big win and well deserved'published at 17:28 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February

    FT: Fulham 3-1 Bournemouth

    Fulham

Fulham manager Marco Silva, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It’s a great win for us. A big win and well deserved. Overall we were the better team over 90 minutes. The first half was at a very good level.

"In the second half, on the ball, they played a little bit better than us. We reacted well to their goal, but their reaction was strong. The last game we conceded two late goals and sometimes the mindset plays a role [in the latter stages of the game].

"In the last game we deserved much more. Today we got what we deserved in the last few games."

On Rodrigo Muniz: "When you play against sides who press really high and go man-on-man almost every time, you need someone [like Muniz]. He did so well.

"It was a very good performance from him. Three goals in two games – it’s always important to help the team get the points. Last season was really tough for him, but he’s getting his game time right now and helping the team."

  4. Pick of the statspublished at 17:26 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February

    • Forest have won only two of their past 12 league matches, earning one point out of a possible nine in 2024.
    • They have lost five of their six most recent top-flight home fixtures.
    • Newcastle are vying to win four consecutive away matches in all competitions for the first time since November 2016 when they were in the Championship. They last managed it as a top-flight club in November 2003.
    • Their Premier League games this season have produced 85 goals, the most of any side.
  5. 'Blue cards would have been wild west'published at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February

    FT: Liverpool 3-1 Burnley

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp speaking to Sky Sports: "I can really imagine how Vincent Kompany is feeling right now because they did a lot of good stuff and made it really uncomfortable for us. But in general, besides the first 15 minutes, when we were in a rush and we played too early, they had counter-attacks and situations and that was a problem. Then we calmed it down and scored wonderful goals.

"We knew at half-time what we had to do. We were in control but of course we had to change Trent Alexander-Arnold and are short on defenders. Curtis Jones did incredibly well, like Harvey Elliott did when he came on.

"It was a difficult game with strange circumstances. It's just with all the things that happened with players out, the goalkeeper stepping aside, it was the perfect afternoon - besides the Trent thing obviously."

On Trent Alexander-Arnold's injury: "Same area in the knee. Nothing really bad but he felt it again and we have to see. We will assess it. We were made aware of it in the game so thought 'what can we do' then Trent said 'no it's fine'. But it's not as he feels it so we had to be careful and take him off.

Title race? "I know it's every week. You add in Tottenham - who got a big win for them today. Villa play tomorrow. They are all in the mix and Arsenal obviously. Two weeks ago we had the perfect squad situation. Two weeks later we are short in each area. Like, wow. It all can happen. We all need luck to get through it when you don't have that, you have to fight through it.

Will Joe Gomez and Alisson be fine? "We thought Joe Gomez would be back but he had a temparture yesterday so we had to send him home. Alisson felt unwell, couldn't sleep or eat really so that's not helpful."

On his yellow card: "It was emotional, definitely. Imagine in this game and the referee has a blue card available? It would have been the wild west. There were so many yellow cards today. I had no clue why Vincent Kompany got it. I lost it in that situation so fine, give me a yellow card. As long as I don't get a blue one and have to sit somewhere for 10 minutes!"

  6. 'We were outstanding'published at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February

    FT: Luton 1-3 Sheff Utd

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder, speaking to MOTD: "The reaction of the players this week has been great.

"Our attitude was only going to be answered when it is questioned on the pitch and I thought they were outstanding and deserved the result.

"We let everybody down last Saturday evening [in the 5-0 loss to Aston Villa], we can't get away from that and we have to own it. There is no hiding place, you are in the Premier League.

"We answered it in a great manner. Feet on the ground it has taken a long time to get that first away win.

"We have some young players learning in the hardest league in the world. Vini was outstanding. Now we just keep it going. We need to engage our supporters, we let them down last week and now we have to engage them again in the next game.

"I can't look too far ahead, I can't look at what the league table will look like at the end of the season. There was a structure about us, I thought we could counter and hurt them. The level of performance was good."

Nottingham Forest v Newcastle (17:30 GMT)

The last time these two sides met it was a huge Boxing Day 3-1 victory for Nottingham Forest at St James' Park.

If Forest were to win today, they would do the league double over Newcastle for the first time since their 1977-78 title-winning season.

Forest had not beaten the Magpies in 10 top-flight games before that.

Chris Sutton predictions graphicImage source, BBC Sport

I really don't know how to judge Newcastle at the moment, good or bad. They got such an impressive result away from home against Aston Villa but ended up having to fight back for a point at home to Luton a few days later.

Eddie Howe's side are conceding a lot of goals - including when Chris Wood scored a hat-trick for Nottingham Forest against them at St James' Park a few weeks ago - and they are another team where I just don't know what we are going to get.

Forest needed penalties to get past Bristol City in the FA Cup this week and they are still waiting for their first win of 2024. The obvious result here is a draw, so I am going to go with that.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-2

  9. 'We were able to dig deep'published at 17:13 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February

    FT: Liverpool 3-1 Burnley

    Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott speaking to Sky Sports: "They came here with a clear gameplan and made it very difficult for us today, as they did in the home game.

"They are a very tough team with a clear way of playing. Yet again we were able to dig deep and find the three points from somewhere. We were clinical when we needed to be and got the three points which is the important thing.

"It's always a nice feeling to be top, especially after the last game. We needed to bounce back and show fight.

"There's still a long way to go yet so we can't get carried away. We just need to take it game by game. It's always a confidence-booster when you're top of the league. We just need to keep going now.

"I just think we need to take it game by game and putting in the performances. We need to keep winning and putting points on the board. That's all we can do. We need to use today as a confidence boost into the next one. We can't really look back. We will just keep marching forward."

    Tom Gayle
BBC Radio 5 Live commentator at Kenilworth Road

Sheffield United's first victory on the road this season.

What a response to last week's home humiliation at the hands of Villa, wrapped up by Vini Souza becoming the first Brazilian to score a Sheffield United Premier League goal. Those away fans won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

Luton's unbeaten start to 2024 comes to an end.

  12. 'The story of our season'published at 17:06 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February

    FT: Liverpool 3-1 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley captain Josh Brownhill speaking to Sky Sports: "Overall we were very good actually. We don't want to concede the goals we conceded but to get the chances we had, there's a lot of positives.

"Going two goals down is always hard but I'm proud of the boys. You don't create that many clear-cut chances but on another day they go in.

"It's been the story of our season. We've been in so many games where we could have got more than we have right now. It's been a bit frustrating but the fight is still there, the belief and the performances.

"We just have to stick at it and hopefully things will turn."
