  5. 'It's very special for me'published at 20:12 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February

    FT: Nottm Forest 2-3 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "To come here and play is not easy. Their fans have been amazing for them. It's very special for me to score two goals in front of our fans. I enjoyed it a lot."

On scoring more: "No because I play as a six. My job is to pass the ball and give assists. Tonight I played as an eight and I could help the team."

On aim for remainder of season: "Last year we were not so good away from home. Next week we have another big game at home. Our goal this season is to finish in Europe again."

  6. 'Guimaraes made the difference'published at 20:11 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February

    FT: Nottm Forest 2-3 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe speaking to BBC Match of the Day:

"Big win, great spirit. Especially in the second half. We played well in the first period. We dominated the ball and controlled the game but then came in at 2-2 which was disappointing. Second half was different I thought we won the game based on our determination and unity and spirit.

"Having a couple of options from the bench was massive for us and we haven't had that for a few months. Hopefully everyone came through this one fit because that's going to be key for us."

On Forest penalty claim: "No view of it - it was behind bodies and I haven't seen it again. People tell me it wasn't but that's from a Newcastle perspective."

On Guimaraes goals: "It's not necessarily something we ask him to do but it's more than welcome when he does chip in. The first one was a tough skill to execute and the second was a brilliant goal from range and he made the difference for us today."

  7. 'Some bad things cost us'published at 20:07 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February

    FT: Nottm Forest 2-3 Newcastle

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo speaking to Sky Sports:

"Good performance, we did a lot of things good. Some things bad that really cost us. We didn't defend well the corner for the third goal but overall we played good. The boys fight and we had chances to make a difference."

On conceding from set piece: "We require focus and concentration and being aggressive - attacking the ball and solving the problem and not being too passive. We are not there."

On penalty decisions: "It's hard - I'm very polite in these situations. I don't like to interfere too much but when VAR have time to see and check it over and over again they don't see what I see. It happens, let's move on. More important for me is to try and look how we play. We did well, we created a lot of situations. Controlling the game in the second half, playing good. We have to be focussed and look at details.

"Final decision was good, we had one v ones with the goalkeeper. We are finding the right space but we need to improve on the finishing.

"We've been working very hard, the boys are committed. It's about trying to convert results from spells of good football. And we have to improve defensively."

  8. 'We're trying to win every game we play'published at 20:05 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February

    FT: Nottm Forest 2-3 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was another really entertaining game. We came in level at half-time after playing well. We showed good spirit to win the game."

On game management: "When we 3-2 up. Not when we were 1-0 up. Certainly from the team, not any individual. Delighted at 2-2. That was probably the key moment in the game. We withstood some pressure and scored a good goal."

On Bruno goals: "I think the first one shouldn't be underestimated. It's a great ball by Trippier and a fanatastic finish. The second one, we moved him deeper. He makes a difference for us when he's in the groove and he was tonight."

On defending transitions: "Our midfield didn't deal well enough with some transitions and it cost us a couple of goals. That's something for us to go and look back at."

Elanga targeting Burn: "I didn't think it was particularly relevant. They've got pace on both sides. We scored three and that's the main thing."

On Champions League places: "We're just trying to win every game we play. We're feeling more ourselves now after these couple of away wins."

  9. 'We have to get Europe again'published at 19:58 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February

    FT: Nottm Forest 2-3 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, speaking to Sky Sports: "I'm very happy, it's a good game for us. I played with more freedom and felt good. It was important after the draw with Luton last week. We played very well and it was very important for us today.

"For me we shouldn't have give the ball away, we tried to pass. The second half we played very well. We played with the ball a lot tonight."

On goals: "It was a lovely goal. One of the most beautiful in my career. I dedicate this goal to the Mad Dog because we worked on it in training. When I play as a six, I don't get the chance to play forward as much so I enjoyed playing high."

On higher position: "I think I can play six, eight and 10. I played very well with the two goals. Thank you gaffer. To be honest with you, when I saw the ball come I didn't know whether to hit it with my left or right but it was a perfection finish."

On future: "Sometimes the people speak a lot about me. I just speak a lot about football. I'm very happy here and I like how the fans think of me here. Let the people speak."

On Newcastle ambitions: "We have to get Europe again. Try for Champions League, I know it's difficult but definitely for Europa League. We have been better away from home this season. We have a big game at home next week and hopefully we can get the three points.

"I enjoy my time here. The fans have been unbelievable for me and my family. I hope this can keep going for a long time."

On Bruno Guimaraes: "When Bruno plays further up he shows his magic. I'm delighted for him. The calmness he has brought to the team since he arrived has been brilliant."

On set piece move: "I think we did it before against Brentford. We try to come up with different ways of creating chances. A game can be decided by a set play."

On Forest: "Forest are a quality side and are very dangerous on the transition. In moments it's going to happen. Martin made some good saves."

On top four gap: "Never say never but it's going to be tough. It's been mixed emotions for us this season. It's about finishing the season strong. We have one game a week now and we're getting players back fit, which is very important for us."

    Stephen Kelly

    A huge win for Newcastle.

Forest will be devastated not to come away with something, especially having had a penalty claim turned down. But in the second half they did not do enough, they couldn't get in behind Newcastle often enough to get that third goal.

A fantastic goal from Guimaraes to win it for Newcastle. The changes Eddie Howe made after that helped the team to manage the game and close the space for Forest, and secure a vital away win.

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest are yet to win a Premier League match in 2024 and that is now six defeats in seven home games.

  17. 'Great game management from Newcastle'published at 19:31 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February

    Nottm Forest 2-3 Newcastle

    Stephen Kelly
Former Tottenham defender on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Newcastle are doing really well to keep Forest penned in their half. They're winning second balls and making the game generally scrappy, stopping Forest from getting it down on the floor and playing their wingers into space.

It is great game management from Newcastle.
