My first FA Cup Final, aged 7 in 1985, Norman Whiteside's extra-time winner for Man United vs Everton after Kevin Moran became the first player to be sent off in an FA Cup final. My dad got screamed at by my mum for throwing my 4 month old sister into the air to celebrate the winning goal!

Yeah a great final that, I ducked out of a school fete to watch that one. Back in 2024 Ipswich continue their patient play with Omari Hutchinson the danger man on the right. Maidstone will be delighted with this so far though.

Matt Newsum: My first and only FA Cup final visit was in 1991 when Forest lost in extra-time to Spurs. I vividly remember covering my eyes and then sneaking a peek to see Mark Crossley beat away Gary Lineker's penalty, and me and my cousin crying after Des Walker's own-goal.

There's no VAR today, which we're really pleased about but we need good officiating with it.

It was a very, very close call on the offside.

That was the best spell of possession Maidstone have had so far, you can see they are starting to grow into the game a bit now.

Maidstone put together a handful of passes and this is their best spell by far. A good ball over the top threatens the Ipswich backline and there's a huge roar from the massive Stones following! Ipswich clear, but that's miles better.

Ah great chance! Ipswich defender George Edmundson should score, unmarked at a corner but he closes his eyes on it and skims it wide. A 50p head job.

I think all it takes is for one Maidstone defender not to do their job and not go with a runner. Ispwich are trying so many runs in behind.

Maidstone have got to remain very disciplined and I'm sure George Elokobi will have told his players that. They have done very well so far.

Becoming a Portsmouth fan after being a Maidstone United fan at school before they folded, the FA Cup has always been a bit of a bittersweet occasion for me. I remember the best final memory of 2008 which nearly sent Portsmouth on a similar path as The Stones (I am the kiss of death fan...) Amazing to see the revitalisation of United after all these years!

I thought that was in the back of the net!

A good low strike from Morsy, and Covolan was just able to get his fingertips to it and tip the ball around the post.

    A very good save there.

Another long-range strike, another save from Lucas! Town skipper Sam Morsy this time lasering in a drive from 20+ yards and it's tipped wide.

  16. GREAT SAVE!published at 14 mins

    Ipswich 0-0 Maidstone

That's another good save! Lucas is earning his corn in nets today, flying to his right to claw out another long-range strike from Omari Hutchinson. Saka-esque, the way he cuts in from the right and slaps in left-footed shots.

Philip Whitehead: Interesting fact, just last month Maidstone United forward Manny Duku was lining up in Gibraltar for Manchester 62. He scored 6 goals in 6 games for them.

  20. GREAT SAVE!published at 12 mins

    Ipswich 0-0 Maidstone

Oh it's a really good save now from Lucas in the Maidstone net. I don't think you get many Brazilians in the sixth tier but he's got decent pedigree, I once saw him get sent off against Northampton for Port Vale and that's a really good save with his feet to keep out Nathan Broadhead.
