Jovane Cabral gets the leg prepared a little bit too early.

He just had to wait that fraction longer.

With what I am watching between Cape Verde and South Africa, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will comfortably beat either of these sides but I have learnt at the AFCON that you never know what will happen next.

    Cape Verde 0-0 South Africa

Brilliant work from Rocha again who chips a cross in for Jovane Cabral but the Cape Verde midfielder fires his shot on the turn just over the bar.

The Blue Sharks are finishing strongly. It's just that final bit of quality that's lacking.

And we're back. Cape Verde's Kenny Rocha has a shot blocked.

    Here he is!

Bebe finally makes his entrance with a little under 20 minutes to go, having received a huge cheer from the crowd as he was called back from his warm-up.

The forward has really bulked up since his United days and now sports a bristling beard, as well as a rather ominous looking strapping on his left knee for this game.

Born in Portugal, he only made his Cape Verde debut in 2022 but has the opportunity to make himself a national hero by taking the Blue Sharks into a first-ever Afcon semi-final.

I think we're at the stage now where one goal will win it.

Another drinks break. Will we have a winner in normal time?

It's balanced nicely on a knife edge, just waiting for something to break open this game.

  10. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 73 mins

Here comes Bebe. The Cape Verde forward replaces Garry Rodrigues.

I'm a little surprised. Rodrigues has probably been the best player on the pitch.

Hugo Broos makes the first change, bringing on midfielder Thapelo Maseko, and immediately Bubista responds with a double change of his own for Cape Verde.

Maseko has gone to play on the left-flank, in support of lone frontman Evidence Makgopa.

Bafana Bafana got plenty of joy down the wings in their last-16 win over Morocco and it looks like Broos is following the same blueprint, waiting for the game to open up so his team can hit tired legs with pace out wide.

    More like it!

A Cape Verde corner is cleared straight to Garry Rodrigues, but his shot from close range is blocked.

This one's going to extra-time and penalties, isn't it?

Back to the football and, after a brief period of excitement five minutes ago, things have slowed right down.

    A proper midfield battle now.

Boa Noite from Cape Verde. Been lapping up the football with the locals during two weeks of hiking and relaxing on Santo Antao and Sao Vicente. Come on Blue Sharks!
