Well, Efan, it's all Cape Verde at the moment, South Africa can't keep hold of the ball!

Cape Verde's captain Ryan Mendes is again in the action but this time he launches a cross over everyone and out for a goal kick.

Cape Verde will believe that their time is now.

Both of these sides have played without pressure but perhaps with a huge semi-final at stake that could stem the openness.

I hope that's not the case. An early goal usually settles a few nerves, for both sides really.

The game here at Yamassoukro’s Charles Konan Banny Stadium has not even kicked-off yet and we’ve had what could well end up being the loudest cheer of the evening.

There are not many fans here, but the vast majority are definitely home fans because the place erupted on news of Oumar Diakite’s late, late winner for Ivory Coast in their quarter-final against Mali in Bouake.

Those supporters are on their feet dancing, as are the volunteers in their green and orange tracksuits.

The Elephants are writing their own story at this Afcon, but what kind of tale will unfold here between Cape Verde and South Africa over the next couple of hours?

South Africa famously won a home Afcon in 1996, their first time in the competition.

Two years later they finished runners-up and in 2000 they lost in the last four.

Since then they've never reached the semi-finals, losing two quarter-final appearances.

The most recent game in 2019 at the hands of Nigeria. But, the real painful defeat for Bafana Bafana fans was the 2013 quarters where they lost to Mali on penalties as hosts.

Cape Verde didn't qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations until 2013.

In recent tournaments though the Blue Sharks have made a splash. They reached the quarters on debut and the round of 16 two years ago.

But they've never before reached the semi-finals though. For a nation of just over 500,000 a win tonight would be sensational.

They're also the only side left in the tournament who've never lifted the trophy before.
