  1. CLOSE!published at 57 mins

    Cape Verde 0-0 South Africa

    HUGE CHANCE!

Cape Verde absorb loads of pressure before launching an attack of their own.

Nobody is picking up Garry Rodrigues who races through on goal. He only has the keeper to beat but doesn't get anything behind his shot which is easily saved.

    What a waste!

South Africa look the stronger, probably for the first time this game.

They drive through the middle before switching the ball out to Khuliso Mudau on the right who fires shot straight at the keeper.

South Africa have a rare corner but it's palmed away by Vózinha before Cape Verde win a free-kick.

Bebe never made it as an impact sub at Manchester United. But will he have a chance to make history for his nation tonight?

Former Manchester United forward Bebe was among six Cape Verde players warming up on the pitch at half-time.

He had started three of the Blue Sharks’ four games before tonight, so I think we can expect to see him at some point in the second period.

If we do, look out for his outrageous long-range free-kicks, one of which he scored against Mozambique in the group stage.

His technique? Very much from the Cristiano Ronaldo school, although the two never played together at Old Trafford.

It's end to end now as a low Cape Verde cross is only just intercepted.

Then the Blues Sharks lose the ball in a dangerous area but Kevin Pina tackles Khuliso Mudau before he can unleash a shot.

Cape Verde immediately go on the attack and win a corner.

The ball gets hacked clear but only as far João Paulo who volleys a shot wide. Decent start to the second period.

I would love to say this game is a classic, but that would be fibbing.

As half-time arrived, the locals decided to entertain themselves with a few more chants celebrating Ivory Coast’s progress into the semi-finals earlier this evening.

The altercation between Percy Tau and Kenny Rocha is as lively as it has got on the field.

Goalless – and very much so!

Go on then, since you asked so nicely - here's me in Cape Verde with the resort's kids club mascot. Looks overcast but I really should have packed suncream.

Cagey half of football, both side have had their spells where they have been in control of the football but neither team has really tested the goalkeeper so far.

What's this? Out of nowhere an off the ball incident.

South Africa keeper Ronwen Williams was about to launch the ball forward when Kenny Rocha took a tumble after a push from Percy Tau on the halfway line.

Good referring though, only a talking to in the end, both players had a hold of each other.

Confident keeping from South Africa's Ronwen Williams who comes and claims a Garry Rodrigues.

That said, South Africa are now racing forward with Khuliso Mudau chipping an effort over the bar when well-placed in the area.

Three minutes added on at the end of the first half.

    That’s more like it!

Cape Verde are suddenly moving the ball with far more pace and purpose, creating good chances for Kenny Rocha and Ryan Mendes

The South Africans look a little rattled by the sudden pressure they are under

    Cape Verde in the ascendancy.

South Africa respond, trying to carve out an opening of their own.

But Cape Verde are disciplined at the back, happy to get men behind the ball.
