FFP has killed deadline day. Might as well do away with the January transfer window altogether based on this season’s evidence! Maybe make it a loan only window or something instead.

Crystal Palace winger Malcolm Ebiowei has been weighing up a number of loan options from clubs in the Championship, Ligue 1 and the Belgian League since the early part of the window.

The highly rated 20-year-old signed for Palace from Derby in the summer of 2022 but has not yet managed to cement himself in the Eagles senior squad.

Fellow Palace U21 player, Tayo Adaramola has joined Molenbeek on loan, who are also owned by Palace co-owner John Textor, and they could be a team Ebiowei could go to.

Game time is important to the player as he looks to kick on with his development.

  3. [ALMOST] DONE DEALpublished at 10:34 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

This is a BLOCKBUSTER of a move on transfer deadline day.

Lewis Hamilton is set to switch to Ferrari from Mercedes.

They might as well slam the window shut now. Surely nothing is going to top that for the rest of the day.

  4. Birmingham sign Pritchard from Sunderlandpublished at 10:32 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

    Birmingham City

An interesting deal has just been done in the Championship, with Birmingham paying an undisclosed fee to sign Alex Pritchard from Sunderland.

The 30-year-old has joined Blues on a two-and-a-half-year contract and reunites with manager Tony Mowbray having spent 15 months playing under him on Wearside.

The former Norwich winger played in the Premier League for Huddersfield before joining Sunderland in 2021.

  5. Fulham exploring Broja optionpublished at 10:27 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

Chelsea’s Armando Broja has been attracting interest from Fulham as manager Marco Silva attempts to solve his side’s goal shortage but time is running out to formulate a package.

Wolves have also been trying to do a deal for the 22-year-old, who Chelsea value at around £50m but are now believed to be willing to accept a £5m loan fee for the rest of this season.

Will this spark even further interest?

Fulham are exploring all their options to strengthen in the attacking areas and Broja seems certain to be part of that wider conversation at Craven Cottage before the transfer window closes.

Pete: Man Utd need a new striker to help out. Then wait until the summer to totally dismantle the team and start again with Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw as the core.

  7. Serge Aurier to Galatasaray?published at 10:19 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

As advised earlier, it is shaping up to be a busy day at Nottingham Forest.

One deal that may happen is full-back Serge Aurier moving to Galatasaray.

Clearly Forest brought in so many players last summer but they still haven't made the progress owner Evangelos Marinakis is demanding, so more change is anticipated at the City Ground.

Aurier has not had the impact expected since his arrival from Tottenham.

  8. Broja an interesting situationpublished at 10:17 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

Because of the heavy investment in the playing squad and European football looking unlikely at this stage, Chelsea's ability to comply with the Premier League's spending rules - Financial Fair Play (FFP) - may come under scrutiny.

One way the club has been able to continue to invest in the playing staff is by selling academy products such as Lewis Hall, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount who all generated significant profit.

As well as Conor Gallagher's potential sale, Chelsea have allowed 21-year-old graduate Ian Maatsen to join Borussia Dortmund on loan until the end of the season - but any permanent deal would only be in the summer.

Maatsen was the subject of an accepted bid from Burnley of £31.5m in August, but turned down the move.

Chelsea see success as both getting academy players into the first team as well as continuing their careers elsewhere.

Armando Broja is one that is interesting heading into last hours of the window. Chelsea understand that he is a rare profile of striker but having a young player that can bring in a fee may see him out of the club with Fulham reported to be interested.

  9. Benrahma off to Lyon?published at 10:13 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

West Ham have accepted an offer from Lyon to sign winger Said Benrahma on loan until the end of the season.

If the deal goes through, it would include an obligation to buy for £15m, with the final decision now in the 28-year-old Algerian's hands.

Benrahma joined West Ham from Brentford in October 2020 and his current deal runs to 2026.

But he has been an inconsistent performer during his three years with the Hammers.

He started last season's Europa Conference League final against Fiorentina and scored the opening goal from the penalty spot in West Ham's momentous 2-1 win.

However, Benrahma has failed to find the net in 22 appearances this season and was sent off in the FA Cup replay defeat at Bristol City on 16 January.

With the news that Miggy Almiron is staying at Newcastle I don’t think they’ll be too busy in the transfer market today. With the clubs spending power restricted by FFP regulations might we see a loan signing. Ruben Neves to plug the gap left by Tonali and Joelinton perhaps?

  11. Everton receive £30m funding boostpublished at 10:06 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

    BBC Sport

Everton have been provided a further £30m in funding from prospective owners 777 Partners, taking the total loan from the American investment firm to £180m.

The company agreed to purchase owner Farhad Moshiri’s 94% stake in September, but are will awaiting approval of the takeover from the Premier League.

777 were aiming to complete the deal before Christmas but checks remain ongoing and are hopeful of a resolution this month.

Everton’s appeal hearing over their 10-point deduction began this week and an outcome should be revealed by mid-February.

  12. Man Utd 'short of attacking options'published at 10:03 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

Manchester United have offloaded 11 players in January but they seem set to remain silent on the incoming front.

Anthony Martial’s latest injury blow leaves Erik ten Hag worryingly short in attack before the winter transfer deadline. However, United’s focus seems to be on their first summer under Ineos.

With that in mind, let's rank the three areas Ten Hag most urgently needs to address at the end of the second season of his project.

    3) Central defender

Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans' contracts expire this summer, and Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof's futures are far from certain.

United are understandably expected to bring in a long-term partner for Lisandro Martinez.

    2) Striker

Rasmus Hojlund cannot do it on his own beyond the summer, having shouldered most of the responsibility in his maiden season.

Martial has not provided much competition, and he will not be at the club next term. United need another quality option.

    1) Central midfielder

It feels like a central midfielder is at the top of United's priority list every year.

Casemiro looks past his best and needs a long-term successor to play alongside Kobbie Mainoo.

Graham: A few weeks ago, Aston Villa were linked with top players like Federico Chiesa and Jeremie Frimpong. Now we are signing Championship youngsters and academy players. This tells me we are very close to breaching Financial Fair Play rules. Villa do need an injection into the squad - especially a forward, right-back and in midfield.

  14. Moyes hopes Phillips can match Lingard impactpublished at 09:54 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

    West Ham United

West Ham boss David Moyes hopes Kalvin Phillips can have a similar impact to Jesse Lingard at the club.

England midfielder Phillips has joined the Hammers on loan from Manchester City for the rest of the season

Lingard scored nine goals in 16 league matches to help West Ham finish sixth after signing on loan from Manchester United in January 2021.

"This time a couple of years ago we got Jesse Lingard, he really helped us," said Moyes.

"I'm hoping Kalvin can have a similar impact as what Jesse had."

Defensive midfielder Phillips, 28, struggled for first-team football at City after signing for the club from Leeds United in a £45m deal in July 2022.

He made just two starts and 16 Premier League appearances in total during his 18 months at City, although continued to be picked by England manager Gareth Southgate.

Two names I would love to see linked to Nottingham Forest today - David de Gea or Aaron Ramsdale. Both need first team football and aren’t getting it at the moment. Fingers crossed!!

Everton's director of football Kevin Thelwell and manager Sean Dyche had said early doors that it was going to be a "quiet" transfer window for the club.

They have stuck to their word with no incomings or outgoings so far.

Reports suggested the Toffees wanted to sign Ajax striker Chuba Akpom on loan but BBC Sport understands there is no interest in the former Middlesbrough frontman.

If there is any activity today, it is likely to be exits with German side Stuttgart interested in signing Everton defender Mason Holgate, who is currently on loan at Southampton.

On-loan winger Arnaut Danjuma was the subject of a move from Ligue 1 strugglers Lyon but that is now on the backburner with the French side agreeing a deal to sign Said Benrahma from West Ham.

Bournemouth are trying to agree a loan deal for Getafe striker Enes Unal.

The Turkey international has scored 36 goals in 105 appearances for the La Liga outfit.

The Cherries interest in Unai is not being seen as evidence of a willingness to let Dominic Solanke leave the club. Bournemouth are adamant Solanke is going nowhere.

However, Kiefer Moore could leave the Vitality Stadium amid a flurry of what is being described as lower level activity.

I think Bournemouth have gone under the radar again. Some strong transfer movement this window, great squad depth. Can see them going on a healthy cup run before selling Dominic Solanke for a healthy price tag in summer.

  19. Benson to stay at Burnley?published at 09:37 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

Burnley spent big in the summer, close to £100m on new signings, but the season has not gone to plan, entrenched in the relegation zone and staring at an immediate return to the Championship.

Midfielder Manuel Benson was one of the star players in last season's title winning team but has barely had a look-in this year and was linked with a move to Southampton and Hull earlier this month.

The Belgian will be frustrated at the lack of opportunities and was left out of the squad for Wednesday's defeat at Manchester City but BBC Sport understands Benson is likely to stay at Turf Moor beyond the end of the transfer window.

Anass Zaroury is another that is unhappy at the lack of first-team chances on offer under Vincent Kompany this term and is likely to stay too after the Clarets rejected a loan offer from Ligue 1 side Lille.

Before Chelsea consider any further transfer business they should look at the head coach. Team selection, tactics and motivation do not appear to be the strong points of the current one.
