  1. 'Trippier staying makes a huge difference for Newcastle'published at 22:29 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

    Nedum Onuoha
Former Manchester City defender on The Football News Show

These are significant players for Newcastle, when you look at Kieran Trippier, Miguel Almiron, who has been very good for them for the last couple of seasons, you do want to find that level of continuity.

They know they've underperformed this season but what chances would they have in the second half of the season if key players go as well?

Keeping him on board, he understands the city and the football club. I think they're going to have a big second half to the season and him staying makes a big difference.

For Kieran, I believe him coming to Newcastle was about him wanting to come back to England as well. He's played abroad for Atletico, he did very well for them. Bayern Munich are obviously the juggernaut, one of the biggest teams in European football.

Maybe his priorities are a bit different at this stage because if they weren't I think we would probably have seen him push for a move.

  2. Profit and sustainability rules 'have created an uneasy time'published at 22:26 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

    Michael Brown
Former Tottenham midfielder on The Football News Show

The spending caps that the clubs have signed into the agreement says 'we are not going to break the rules' and they have not done that.

Some clubs [Everton and Nottingham Forest] have been charged and there is possibly more to come.

It has changed the outcome for players as well as it is not as easy to get a move, it has created an uneasy time in the January transfer window.

When Andy Carroll left on deadline day [to go to Liverpool] in 2011, I was gutted. Getting the money that late in the day means absolutely nothing. As it happens it was a bad move all around. Newcastle, Liverpool and Chelsea (Fernando Torres) somehow all lost in that deal!

  8. 'Lots of late deals look like they're happening'published at 22:05 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

    West Ham United

West Ham manager David Moyes to BBC Match of the Day: "I'm only just off the pitch, I'm not quite sure what's been done. We know the talk from Betis [around Pablo Fornals] and I think Said Benrahma is in France doing a medical. I couldn't tell you if that has been done tonight.

"I think a few things have been quite last-minute. It's a pretty awkward day to have to answer questions on the transfer deadline. We're a country who like to do things late and there's a lot of late deals that look like they're happening today."
