  1. DISALLOWED GOAL - Chelseapublished at 45+1 mins

    Chelsea 1-1 Newcastle

Chelsea have the ball in the net, but it will not stand. Cole Palmer plays a ball over the top of the Newcastle defence, Nicolas Jackson gets into the penalty area and shoots across Martin Dubravka and into the net.

But the assistant's flag is then raised and the replay shows Jackson had indeed started his run too early and was offside. Good spot from the assistant.

I don't know how many times the ball changed hands in that period before the goal went in.

A mess from both teams - they kept giving it away. It's madness from Chelsea. Axel Disasi does not get tight and Alexander Isak is able to set himself - the power from the side-foot pass into the net is really good.

    Alexander Isak

There doesn't look to be much on, but Alexander Isak collects the ball 20 yards out and with Axel Disasi backing off, Isak has the skill and touch to curl the ball low around Disasi and past a diving Djordje Petrovic.

Lovely finish and Newcastle score from their first shot on target.

Re. 20:32 - Chelsea took Liverpool to extra-time in the cup final and drew with Man City at the Etihad the week before that Steve. The gulf isn't that big.

Great play, Jacob Murphy's initial ball is fantastic.

Marc Cucurella then gets a foot in which makes it awkward for Joe Willock.

Good work from substitute Jacob Murphy in one of his first involvements. Marc Cucurella does well though to stop Joe Willock.

  7. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:40 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March

    Chelsea 1-0 Newcastle

The first yellow card of the day goes to Chelsea's Raheem Sterling for tripping Tino Livramento.

    Chelsea 1-0 Newcastle

Here's some hope for Newcastle fans.

Chelsea have failed to win any of their last three Premier League games in which they've gone 1-0 up, following up a home defeat against Wolves with draws at Manchester City and Brentford.

Anthony Gordon of Newcastle United reactsImage source, Getty Images

Anthony Gordon goes down after a challenge from Marc Cucurella. He needs some treatment on his left leg, does some stretches, but it's no good, he's got to go off injured, with Jacob Murphy coming on.

Massive disappointment for Gordon, with England boss Gareth Southgate among the crowd.

Another injury for Newcastle to deal with.

The nature of the goal conceded exemplifies all of Newcastle's problems this season. Woeful attempt at a clearance, opposition player free to shoot from the edge of the box, no attempt to block the shot and no one near Jackson as he gets a touch on it. A strange feeling of inevitability about it all.

Better from Newcastle. Bruno Guimaraes launches a free-kick from deep near the halfway line and Chelsea don't clear it. It falls to Anthony Gordon inside the penalty area but his shot was blocked by Marc Cucurella, with Newcastle wasting the resulting corner.

The gulf in class and ability between this game and Liverpool v City yesterday is a chasm. Too many players on both sides are not good enough.

    Chelsea 1-0 Newcastle

Newcastle yet to get going. Only one shot off target, none on it and no corners.

With Manchester City away to come in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup at the weekend, Newcastle's season, which had promised so much, is threatening to end really tamely.

Theo: Mark my words… Livramento will be Walker’s replacement for England in the years to come. Great pace and ability to cover defensively.

Bright work from Chelsea's Malo Gusto, only for his cross to be dealt with by Dan Burn and Newcastle are able to see off the threat.

  16. 'Palmer having a big influence'published at 20:25 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March

    Chelsea 1-0 Newcastle

    Gary Neville
Former Manchester United defender on Sky Sports

Cole Palmer is having a big influence and causing major issues down the right-hand-side.

Anthony Gordon might have to go back for five minutes, stop the danger and stop the flow.

Chelsea haven't lost a Premier League game when Nicolas Jackson has found the back of the net (won four, drawn two), while he's netted in back-to-back league appearances for a second time this season (also vs Spurs & Man City in November).

  18. Postpublished at 23 mins

Nicolas Jackson looks to double his goal tally today but his shot is routinely dealt with by Martin Dubravka.

This game has such a mid-table look and feel about it. Who'd have thought that at the start of the season with these two teams?

    Chelsea 1-0 Newcastle

A first effort for Newcastle and it comes from Fabian Schar but he can't hit the target. It has all been straightforward so far for home keeper Djordje Petrovic though.
