But the assistant's flag is then raised and the replay shows Jackson had indeed started his run too early and was offside. Good spot from the assistant.

I don't know how many times the ball changed hands in that period before the goal went in.

A mess from both teams - they kept giving it away. It's madness from Chelsea. Axel Disasi does not get tight and Alexander Isak is able to set himself - the power from the side-foot pass into the net is really good.

Anthony Gordon goes down after a challenge from Marc Cucurella. He needs some treatment on his left leg, does some stretches, but it's no good, he's got to go off injured, with Jacob Murphy coming on.

Better from Newcastle. Bruno Guimaraes launches a free-kick from deep near the halfway line and Chelsea don't clear it. It falls to Anthony Gordon inside the penalty area but his shot was blocked by Marc Cucurella, with Newcastle wasting the resulting corner.

Newcastle yet to get going. Only one shot off target, none on it and no corners.

With Manchester City away to come in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup at the weekend, Newcastle's season, which had promised so much, is threatening to end really tamely.

Chelsea haven't lost a Premier League game when Nicolas Jackson has found the back of the net (won four, drawn two), while he's netted in back-to-back league appearances for a second time this season (also vs Spurs & Man City in November).

Nicolas Jackson looks to double his goal tally today but his shot is routinely dealt with by Martin Dubravka.

A first effort for Newcastle and it comes from Fabian Schar but he can't hit the target. It has all been straightforward so far for home keeper Djordje Petrovic though.
