  1. goal

GOAL - Brighton 1-0 Roma (Agg: 1-4)published at 20:37 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March

    Danny Welbeck (37 mins)

    They couldn't, could they?

Danny Welbeck gets the ball on the corner of the box, shuffles onto his right foot and curls a beauty into the top corner that the keeper can't reach.

    Beautiful goal.

  2. Postpublished at 20:36 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March

Liverpool 4-0 Sparta Prague (Agg: 9-1)

Should be 5-0 to Liverpool here and Darwin Nunez should have another goal to his name.

The ball was worked well on the edge of the box and Mohamed Salah beautifully put it on a plate for Nunez, who scooped it over the bar from five yards out.

  3. Postpublished at 20:35 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March

Aston Villa 1-0 Ajax (Agg: 1-0)

Villa have a lot of pace in their team. Moussa Diaby sends Leon Bailey away down the right and the Jamaican wins a corner.

1-0 up at home against a team that would struggle in the Prem when you're in top 4 and you're saying Villa should sit on what they have....are you kidding me. Go for it Villa. You're good enough to destroy Ajax and make a statement.

  5. Postpublished at 20:33 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March

Liverpool 4-0 Sparta Prague (Agg: 9-1)

First bit of action for Caoimhin Kelleher as he gathers a high free-kick with ease to then release Mohamed Salah quickly on the attack.

Surprisingly, the Liverpool attacker couldn't gather the ball in his stride.

We'll have to see what Unai Emery says later about that Ollie Watkins injury.

So when does Klopp start the substitutions? I'd take people like Endo and Nunez off now. I mean it's 9-1!!!

    Alan

Sparta is the worst team at this level I've ever seen - Jurgen should make major changes at half time rather than risk yet more injuries. Imagine taking a 5-1 lead into a game and still fielding a strong team, we're just asking for trouble

  8. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 20:33 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March

Aston Villa 1-0 Ajax (Agg: 1-0)

Villa striker Ollie Watkins is replaced after failing to fully overcome that knee injury earlier.

Luckily for Villa he scored during that time.

He walks off, not too freely though, and Jhon Duran replaces him.

If that overhead kick from Sardar Azmoun was ruled out for a high foot, as appeared to be the case, then Brighton got very lucky. Looked like a brilliant finish to everyone apart from referee Felix Zwayer.

Great noise from the Villa fans as Ollie Watkins rises superbly to meet a right-wing corner and as soon the ball left his head it looked destined for the top corner.

That's 22 goals in all competitions this season for the England man. Good job he didn't go off when he needed that lengthy treatment.

Watkins asks for even more noise from the home fans on what is looking a memorable night for the club at the moment.

  13. Postpublished at 20:29 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March

Liverpool 4-0 Sparta Prague (Agg: 9-1)

Bobby Clark (19y 36d) is the youngest player to score for Liverpool in European competition since Trent Alexander-Arnold against Maribor in October 2017.

    He's in good company there.

  18. Postpublished at 20:25 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March

Aston Villa 0-0 Ajax (Agg: 0-0)

Villa wideman Moussa Diaby goes round the keeper but he's forced wide and gives Diant Ramaj too much time to get back and stop his shot. It's a corner though.

  19. Quiet start at Brightonpublished at 20:25 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March

    Brighton 0-0 Roma (Agg: 0-4)

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at The Amex Stadium

Brighton still striving for that early breakthrough but struggling to create anything clear cut, although Billy Gilmour had a half-chance.

Manager Roberto de Zerbi definitely believes there is something in this for Brighton. The Italian has gone through his full range of theatrics as if this one was still balanced on a knife edge.

Brighton need this first goal desperately.

  20. Leverkusen knocking on the doorpublished at 20:25 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March

    Leverkusen 0-0 Qarabag (Agg 2-2)

Elsewhere Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen are being held at home by Qarabag FK.

Having registered 73% of the possession and producing nine shots at goal inside the opening 22 minutes Xabi Alonso's side are turning the screw in hopes of finding the opener in Germany.
