A massively missed opportunity for Newcastle to come away with the victory in a match they largely dominated. Alexander Isak put them ahead in the 15th minute, but a failure to kill off the game proved crucial.

Ex-Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, booed relentlessly through the match, made good saves to deny Jacob Murphy and Isak from extending their advantage. Dan Burn thought he had added a second, only for a tight VAR offside to show Isak was offside when collecting the ball and before playing the cross.

VAR was again involved, to check whether Everton had earned a late penalty. It was quickly a very easy decision as Paul Dummett's needless foul, when he had his arm around Ashley Young's neck and hauled him to the ground, gifted Everton a lifeline.

All credit to Dominic Calvert-Lewin as he kept his composure to blast his spot-kick past Martin Dubravka and earn Everton a point with his first goal since the end of October, ending a 23-game run without scoring.

This could prove to be a vital result for both sides - Everton in their battle to stay up and Newcastle in their fight for European qualification. It ends in a draw and Everton will be pleased with the point.

However, it does extend their run of games in the Premier League without a win to 13 - a new club record.

This is the difference in squad depth between West Ham and spurs. Spurs can bring on Kulusevski. Where we can only bring on Cornet or Ings.

Two Bournemouth substitutes really did make the difference. Semenyo and goalscorer Kluivert brought energy and attacking thrust that was lacking in the first half.

I thought Semenyo in particular was excellent. He’s really stepped up this season to quickly become an exciting, productive Premier League player.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, speaking to BBC MOTD about Everton penalty decision: "It was one of those. At that stage we were just hoping to see the game out. Paul [Dummett] is an experienced player and unfortunately it was his arm and whether it brushed against Ashley [Young] that went against us. Both were grappling.

"I felt the second goal was important, we were close to getting it until VAR stopped that one. Against any team you want the comfort of the second goal but unfortunately we didn't get it."

On defensive injuries: "The amount of injuries you have anyway is going to hurt you but when it is condensed to one section of the pitch it will stretch you."

The new approach brought in by Nuno Espirito Santo to Forest, they play with two wide men who make the pitch really big,and a target man up top - that gives Morgan Gibbs-White the space in the pockets to pick up the ball and create.

He is a very inventive player and they are the areas you want him to be picking up the ball in and expressing himself.

To be involved in all three goals in the game shows just how fantastic a game he had.

Forest will be hoping that they can go on and build on the win now and record a few more.

  11. 'We were on the end of two tight decisions'published at 21:51 British Summer Time 2 April

    FT: Newcastle 1-1 Everton

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, speaking to TNT Sports: "I think it was. Saying that I thought the players were flat out and gave everything. It was a decent performance but we needed a second goal. We were on the end of two tight decisions.

"It was players grappling each other. It was one of those that could have gone either way.

"Bar that penalty we go on to win that game. It would have been a tight win but a deserved one.

"Alexander Isak is an outstanding technician. He will probably rue the missed one but with attacking players you have to be in the position to score and he looks like he will score every game at the moment."

"The future is bright for Bournemouth but we can grow a lot more. I am sure that will happen."
