The biggest surprise is the scoreline - only 1-0.

Brilliant pieces of play, getting into great positions.

Sometimes you come to these games that are built up so much and they can be slow burners and not as exciting.

This has been exactly the kind of game you wanted and expected it to be.

  2. All changepublished at 16:46 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March

It's all change at the top of the 'as it stands' table. A huge 45 minutes coming up.

Klopp will doubtless be thinking that although this is a very important game, it's not the last of the season. Risking Salah when there are still a number to go might be too much of a risk.

Manchester City's advantage is fully merited and manager Pep Guardiola looked frustrated as more opportunities were not taken.

Liverpool are right in this, however, with Mohamed Salah still to call on when needed.

Re: Daniel @ 16:25 Anfield is only the 12th man when they're not behind?? What about Dortmund 2016/Barcelona 2019??

Jim, 16.15. Liverpool’s Carabao Cup Final goal was ruled out (correctly) for offside. Not for a foul. Neither Endo in that game nor Ake in this game were penalised for a foul. So the laws have been consistent in this case. Hope that helps.

Do you bring Salah on? It must be a temptation.

It has been difficult for Harvey Elliott actually. He hasn't been as lively as he usually is.

This game is a beautiful microcosm of Klopp vs Guardiola. One team probing, patient, the other frantic, all action. These two have been so brilliant for the Premier League.

  10. YELLOW CARDpublished at 16:34 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March

    Liverpool 0-1 Man City

Rodri gets the first yellow card of the game for hauling down Alexis Mac Allister about 25 yards out.

The free-kick is driven towards the net by Dominik Szoboszlai but Ederson makes the save.

That's Liverpool's first serious attempt on target - and it comes right at the end of the half.

    That doesn't happen very often!

Virgil Van Dijk is caught dithering on the ball by Erling Haaland but Manchester City are unable to make it count as Julián Alvarez fires over.

Wasn't there just a lovely moment there when you saw two of the best in the business one on one, man on man. I'm going to enjoy the next five seconds here!

In the end van Dijk just did enough to slow Erling Haaland down a bit and he ran out of legs in the end.

Never got enough power on the shot but he did get the shot away.

Man City have slowed the passing down and stopped the press - Diaz has to hit the target!

Luis Diaz's attempt flies narrowly wide after an attack that started with Wataru Endo winning possession.

Manchester City trying to take the sting out of things a little now they have the lead. Lots of measured passes, plenty of time taken over throw ins and restarts.

Not sure Anfield is in the mood to see this one played cool, though.
