Man City v Real Madrid (agg: 3-3, 20:00 BST)

This is becoming a regular European fixture, the fourth time in five seasons Manchester City and Real Madrid have met in a Champions League knockout game.

City have won their past three home games against Real, all under Pep Guardiola - (2-1 in 2020, 4-3 in 2022 and 4-0 in 2023).

The only previous manager to win four consecutive home games against Real in the Champions League is Ottmar Hitzfeld, who did so in charge of Bayern Munich between 2000 and 2002.

City could become just the second team to eliminate Real Madrid from the knockout stages of the European Cup in consecutive seasons, after AC Milan in 1988-89 (semi-finals) and 1989-90 (last 16).

A big night for Takehiro Tomiyasu who is starting his first Arsenal match since December. The defender comes into the side at left-back and will have to try to deal with Leroy Sane.

It's not just the Galacticos and supporters that bring colour and noise to any match involving Real Madrid. The radio commentators are, shall we say, a bit excitable.

One in the press box has just got the dust out of his throat with some very loud and lengthy shouting, including what sounded very much like a goal celebration rehearsal.

Manchester City will hope he does not need that one tonight.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says everything about tonight's game at the start of his programme notes.

"A Champions League quarter-final second-leg against Real Madrid. Games don't come much bigger, guys."

Bayern midfielder Joshua Kimmich: "Arsenal were very dominant, we relied more on counterattacks.

"We won't control the game for over 90 minutes but I assume we'll have a bit more possession as we try to put our stamp on the game.

"We've actually produced some good performances this season when we've used counters and quick attacks - we have the personnel for quick transitions."

Bayern Munich v Arsenal (agg: 2-2, 20:00 BST)

    Matt Upson
Former Arsenal defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

The left-back position is a problem for Arsenal and it has been for a while.

Arsenal have several players who can fill in at left-back, but there isn't one player who is an out-and-out left back.

Mikel Arteta has gone with Takehiro Tomiyasu. Jakub Kiwior struggled in the first leg and Oleksandr Zinchenko is not doing his defensive job - Zinchenko would probably get exposed this evening.

Jude Bellingham has really grown in that environment [at Real Madrid] and has taken on that responsibility.

It shows with his his goals and his general play - he is a born winner.

He has changed this Real Madrid team which can now play in a different style.

I know its good to support English teams in Europe, but I can't be the only one who is a huge Real Madrid fan tonight surely? Happy if Arsenal win, but I would prefer it City don't win for many reasons.

Current form can have an impact and Arsenal in their last two games have not been their best.

They have had two matches where they have looked shaky and that is the concern for me.

Bayern Munich are looking at this tournament as a necessity to win a trophy. Whether or not that puts more pressure on them, we will have to wait and see. There is a lot riding on this game for Bayern.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta: "Emotion is needed in football, it is about tweaking it and the right person at the right time to have that.

"We did that well in London, after scoring the first goal we had a big chance to score the second one and then five minutes they are ahead.

"We did well not to throw the game away, we got back in the game and were looking for a winner.

"Most of our players haven't experienced a night like this and it is going to be the first one.

"They are super motivated and they are prepared and feel confident."

Bayern Munich's season rests on this game.

They lost the title many weeks ago to Bayer Leverkusen. You have to go back to 2012 when Bayern Munich had a trophyless season.

Leandro Trossard is confident Arsenal can bounce back from their Premier League defeat by Aston Villa.

The Gunners were top of the table before Sunday's 2-0 home defeat handed the advantage in the title race to Manchester City, who now lead both Arsenal and Liverpool by two points.

"Everyone is ready, we can use this game as a reaction," he said.

"It's a big opportunity for us and it's on the biggest stage.

"Everyone wants to show what we're capable of and there's no better way to do it."

Asked if anyone writing off their Premier League chances would give the team extra motivation, he added: "I don't think we need anyone to motivate us.

"Our group is experienced enough to deal with those kinds of situations, we had it last year as well, and everyone still believes.

"We're still tight. There are six games left in the Premier League and we want to win them all."

  15. 'I would rather play difficult games'published at 19:21 British Summer Time 17 April

Former Arsenal striker Theo Walcott says he would "rather play the difficult games" the Gunners have coming up than easier fixtures.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast, Walcott said: "Arsenal are at a stage now where we are talking about them at the level of Manchester City which is credit to Mikel [Arteta] for what he has done.

"The games Arsenal have got coming up are very difficult but I would rather play the difficult games.

"As a player you want those difficult games and big moments. You want to be the player everyone is talking about.

" You want to create something, you want to create history - and they can."

Man City have got so much experience going up against Real Madrid. The last four times Man City have played Real Madrid at the Etihad they have beaten them.

You would say Man City have got the edge, but there are always goals.

There have been 23 goals that these two teams have shared in the last five games. Both teams are open and expansive - the attacking quality is there to see.

Tonight could be seen as another audition for two of England's greatest talents.

Phil Foden has lit up the Premier League this season with his performances for City, while Jude Bellingham's form for Real Madrid has caught the eye across Europe.

Both players will be key to England's hopes at Euro 2024 but Gareth Southgate has a welcome dilemma - who will play in the number 10 role?

They both started in that position for their opposing clubs in a frantic first leg which finished 3-3 in Madrid last week.

Foden was a standout performer, picking up the man of the match award after scoring in the second half, taking his opportunity in a position he has enjoyed on nine occasions for City this season.

Bellingham has notched up 24 games in the position for Real this campaign and he is likely to play another key role tonight return leg - so how do the two players compare statistically?
