They went really direct and put Louise Quinn up front as well, and it became really set-piece dominated.

The manager in the second half said 'let's go for it' and then the crowd got behind them.

It was a better performance from Sarina Wiegman's side and they needed it to be after a frustrating draw on Friday with Sweden.

The Republic of Ireland built pressure in the second half but in the end, it felt comfortable for England.

They got the job done in the first half, Keira Walsh was much more heavily involved and defensively they were relatively strong.

Still plenty to improve on but there were positives for both teams.

We don't have to wait long for the next round of Euro 2025 qualifiers. They come around at the end of next month.

England host France at St. James' Park in Newcastle on 31 May, on the same day Republic of Ireland play Sweden at Aviva Stadium.

The reverse fixtures take place just five days later, with the Lionesses going to St Etienne on 4 June, while the Irish visit Stockholm.

I think Megan Campbell made a big difference when she came on, she gave us more balance and helped us get Katie McCabe further forward.

I think it is a better performance than the France game, we had a go and did something different.

FT: Republic of Ireland 0-2 England

    Karen Carney

My heart is still racing after that second half.

Republic of Ireland played well in the second half and put us under pressure, but England defensively were strong. Credit to them.

FT: Republic of Ireland 0-2 England

Republic of Ireland certainly finished strong. They did not have a shot on goal until the 84th minute, but by the end they had England rocking and playing for time in a feverish atmosphere.

England dominated the match on the whole, but their inability to kill off supposedly the easiest team in the group will be a cause for concern.

FT: Republic of Ireland 0-2 England

It hasn't always been pretty, but four points from two games is a decent start for England. Tough visits to France and Sweden still to come, but they are well placed so far.

They will see it as job done.

It's a clean sheet as well, and two goals scored.

They have also got some rotation too, with the likes of Jess Park and Hannah Hampton getting a chance.

England should be coasting to a 2-0 win. Instead everything looks panicked and frenetic, with the home fans roundly booing every attempt at time-wasting.

England should see this out, but it isn't convincing.

England have now become a very ordinary side. Give the ball away a lot and general passing and control is poor.

A double change from Sarina Wiegman, whether to waste time or try and reivigorate England is not clear.

Lauren James and Alessia Russo are replaced by Chloe Kelly and Rachel Daly.

Earlier, I missed Georgia Stanway replacing Ella Toone. Apologies.

Lucy Bronze grabbed Hannah Hampton and seemed to comfort her or give her words of encouragement after that situation. It was all a bit bizarre!

    Republic of Ireland 0-2 England

    What has happened here?!

Hannah Hampton holds on to the ball for a long time, as Katie McCabe stands in front of her. Eventually the England keeper takes her kick - and boots it straight into the Irish captain.

Hampton wants a free kick for McCabe not being far enough away, but nothing is given as McCabe runs after the loose ball.

Eventually McCabe gets a shot in from a tight angle, although Hampton has got back in position to make the save.
