As it stands, United's faint Champions League hopes would be all but over - nine points off third with three games remaining.

Spurs would just be three points behind United.

Boos from the crowd and disbelief from Nikita Parris as she is penalised for what she felt was a fair tackle.

It has all gone horribly wrong for United, at this stage.

Dave in Southport: Not only lethargic in movement but Man Utd are not alert mentally and don't look as if they are used to playing for the same team together.

    Manchester United 1-2 Tottenham

Tottenham have lost all four of their previous away games in the Women’s Super League against Manchester United, conceding three or more goals in all four matches.

They could end that hoodoo today.

    Manchester United 1-2 Tottenham

It has not been a good few minutes for Mary Earps, or Maya Le Tissier.

Just seconds after the opener, they left a harmless long ball for each other. By the time both realised the other was not dealing with it, Matilda Vinberg was able to zip in and set up the chance for Jess Naz to score the second Spurs goal.

Earps was sensational last week against Chelsea, but she's had a bad half here.

Leah Galton attempts to bring United back level again, but her inswinging cross from the left is over everyone.

I was about to give a bit more detail about that Spurs opener, when Jess Naz so rudely interrupted with the temerity to score a second.

Mary Earps and her United team mates were convinced it was offside, as Bethany England was stood right in the path of Spence's shot and in the eyeline of Earps.

She lifted her boot but did not make contact with the ball, which Earps got a hand to but could not keep out.

It looked as if Maya Le Tissier may have been playing England onside regardless.

Blimey, what a whirlwind few minutes!

As Thomas got treatment, both sets of players came over to the technical area to take on water and instructions.

Marc Skinner was properly reading the riot act to his players, and no surprise. A dreadful period of play for United.

There's a break in play as Martha Thomas goes down. She's taken a knock and won't be able to continue.

    Kit Graham replaces her.

    Jess Naz (31 mins)

    Incredible!

Confusion at the back for United as Mary Earps does not come to collect an aimless long ball just inside her area.

It allows Matilda Vinberg to chase it down and pull back to Jess Naz, who fashions herself space on the edge of the box, and steers a left footed effort past the flailing Earps.

    Leigh Sports Village is stunned.

    Drew Spence (29 mins)

And it leads to an equaliser!

It's played short, Matilda Vinberg's cross is half cleared and Drew Spence arrives at the edge of the area with a clanging shot that finds the bottom corner.

There were United claims for offside, as Bethany England was stood right in front of Mary Earps - but the goal is given.

United manager Marc Skinner watches on from the touchline, black fleece zipped up to his chin.

He's not a universally popular manager among United fans - but would a fourth place finish and a first FA Cup trophy be considered a good season for him and the team? Opinions vary, I'm sure.

United sweep forward again, another incisive pass from Nikita Parris is aimed at Ella Toone - but she leaves it after a shout from Leah Galton, who turns out to be offside.

Parris has been at the centre of almost all United's best moves so far.

    Man Utd 1-0 Spurs

Almost a self-inflicted wound by Spurs!

Playing out from the back, Ash Neville makes a loose pass to concede possession on the edge of their area.

It falls to Melvine Malard, whose low shot on the turn is well saved by Becky Spencer to her left.

    Man Utd 1-0 Spurs

A terrific start to this game - good chances for both teams, and the match is being played at a fine tempo.

Melvine Malard's fifth WSL goal of the season is the difference so far.
